Always been a Tacoma guy but with a growing family decided to get a Tundra for the extra interior room. Picked up this 2011 Platinum and I absolutely hate chrome. Seems like it has chrome everything...only reason I wound up with this one is because I got a hell of a deal on it. Love the truck, but the chrome has to go.

Anybody on here that has done this or can point me in a good direction? Been researching everything from plastidip to ordering spray cans of the factory paint color. Not sure how to paint over chrome though that will look right. What’s yalls experience? Thanks.

before and after pics would be cool too.

man I was thinking of just plasti dipping all of it bit worried it’d look like crap. Was trying to find some pics of 2nd gen black tundras with dipped bumpers and grills but seems most things on this forum are 3rd gen.

I went with Line-X Premium on my bumpers. It's expensive but an awesome turnout. I'll get some pics of before and after. I had my Bushwacker flares done as well.

not a bad price on the grille if it’s already painted to match.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates chrome. I painted the chrome bumpers on a previous truck with the Rustoleum black bumper spray. They looked great and didn't peel off at all.

I used Plasti dip and am pleased with the results. I still need to do the wheels. First pic is before and the rest of them are after:

The only color chrome goes with IMO is black. Then again does fake chrome count. STEW (In R.I., I'm surrounded by Massholes.)

My plan is to dechrome the plastic chrome and leave steel chrome...so leave my nerf bars and bumper ends and black out or remove the others

    Looks good!

I think the truck looks nice as is. You have to let the chrome flow into your karma. A smoking deal isn't so smoking after you start spending money on replacing perfectly good parts for aesthetics only. Disclaimer: I came from the generation of cars having chrome.

I wrapped mirror caps, spray paint the chrome door handles, swapped grille with the TRD Pro that was already painted, debadged the side platinum emblem. Only chrome left is on the trunk and I can live with that.

For me it's a step by step process. Grill done bumpers amd step bars will be done next. Going to wrap them with vinyl.
    Grill before.

If I was to do it over I would have just spent the 300.00 it would have took for me to do the rock warrior grill. The nice thing for you is you already have the factory brackets you need to mount one.
