Here is a cross section cut out of our OEM flexible brake hoses. Shows me there is no metal braid where some youtubes commenters stated all brake lines have braided steel. They lied.

Oem doesn’t even have braided. (Except some gms up by their abs pump) they have polyester braids. Similar to a tire carcass

That's quite the jump. And it's in a metal can. I read somewhere that's better than it being in plastic. I'm sure some one can back me up or poo poo that.

I haven't done the badges yet. Ran out of time before winter hit. They're also on the spring to-do list.

I kinda like them on my truck. Plus, on a 15 year old truck I'm sure there would be some fading to deal with if I pull them off. The paint behind the letters will likely not match the rest of my paint.

The previous owner took mine off. I looked at replacing them, but couldn't find them new.

My first taco was debadged when it was repainted and PO debadged most of my 2nd taco, I finished the job. I like the tundra badges though

Taking it easy today. Going to track down some self bleeders for the new front calipers. I bought some for the WE calipers last week before seeing a tear in the piston boot, but the WL have a differing size.

Looks to be the same size as the proportioning valve bleeder which I also need in the self bleed.

I may pick up some shims as I noticed my existings have two shims behind each pad. My new kit only has one shim already on the pads.

    Thoughts?

Well. Both my front calipers are sticking. Going to rock them a bit longer, but I will probably try the 14wa caliper swap.

big issue with that is I’m going to have to expedite the purchase of 17” wheels

I’m curious to see how mine react in disassembly/post mortem. I’m going to remove the pads and pump the pedal. I want to see these things in action. I know there is a tear in the rubber on the pass side lower piston. Its positioned so it catches water by the looks.

I plan on really lubing up the rims of these rubbers on the new calipers around the pistons with Sil-Glyde.

Stoked for you on that 14GA upgrade. Thats something I would have done, but the 16” rims won’t allow it seems. I really like 16’s. I’m also spending way too much on bleeders and shims. I look at this upgrade as a safety issue so it is justified. Might need to stop fast one day!

Getting stoked and can’t wait till Mondays install for feedback. Looks like super nice weather that day. 70’s!

And tires to go on those 17s. It's a slippery slope my friend!

I was hoping to finally do my drum brakes tomorrow, but today was VW day and oh what joyful fun lies ahead.

I was swapping the strut mounts with poly ones, swapping the sway bar bushings with poly ones, throwing out the pile of crap heim sway bar end links I had in favor of stock end links with poly bushings. I noticed one of my year old R32 control arm bushings already shows a tear starting, I'll ride them out as long as I can. Swapped passenger side ball joint out. Took note that I have oil spilling from the pcv hoses all over the front of my motor, oil spilling from my turbo (maybe a bad fitting) and my power steering pressure line ($200 hydraulic hose) leaks at both ends! No wonder my wife hates this car :D

I am going to change the oil tomorrow, change the trans fluid, possibly get into the pcv tangle, and really check out all the other leaks. Thinking I'll swap that power steering line and flush the fluid in a few weeks, a lot more concerned for my turbo. If that's gone bad it's time for a K04 upgrade kit (250hp). Talk about slippery slopes!
    :spending:

Here is the pcv tangle if anybody ever considered buying a VW. Don't do it! Buy Toyota!

I actually have the highway tires from the 17" sport wheels the truck had when i got it. I would throw those on for now. pad lifes still good. so i'll let them wear down a bit more before i worry too much about it.

You want to talk about a PCV system? look up the audi 2.7t PCV. My a6 needed a new PCV.

    NEVER again.

Your stock pile of parts is just unfair  gonna start calling you "will call".

I've seen the 2.7 set up, its torture. I hate the little band clamps that you've got to clip through. I'm sure theres a special tool to make them easier to remove but I don't own one.

When my tires wear out I want to go to 17s. Thinking about level 8s. Not sure yet. I want something that sticks out a little more so I don't rub my tires on my frame at full lock any more

When you avoid frame you hit body. That's the one thing I really hate about these trucks, the limited tire clearance. Its embarrassing seeing old Rangers on 35s and we bounce off pinch welds on 32.8s

I've already had to trim quite a bit for my 33.5s. may need to hammer down some more if I ever get my spacers on

Today is going to be caliper spray day. I get to use up some half empty cans of assorted Black Gloss Enamel that have been taking up space on a self.

Fighting the urge to do these brakes today, but will be best to let the paint dry overnight. It will be a full days work tomorrow.

Maybe I’ll lube up my gas pedal today?

    2006 Toyota Tundra DC SR5
Took my side trim off today. With a heat gun it was easy to get it off, but I had to take a knife blade and some goof off to get the gunk off. I’m not done yet but here’s how it looks so far !

    Good news and bad news.

Good news is I took a close look at my turbo and the outlet pipe, I pulled the jacket off that pipe and theres no oil there. It seems to be that my power steering pump has been leaking well and possibly flinging it back at my turbo outlet pipe. I don't need to spend $1k+ on a turbo, just around $400 on a steering pump, fluid and new lines since those are leaking like hell.

Bad news is, last oil change I installed a magnetic plug. This oil change it had this stuck to it. 10mm socket for scale.

No idea what it is. Doubt it's a wrist pin or anything like that. Seems like maybe an oil line of sorts. May have been there a while to be fair.
