2000-2006 Tundra big brake upgrade kit (14WA calipers)

If you guys are looking to get bigger brake rotors and calipers that are sized larger than 13WL’s, the 14WA calipers and rotors are the way to go.

14WA calipers came on 2010+ Lexus GX460’s and 2015+ Toyota 4Runners.

I’ve tested this kit on five different trucks (including my own 04Dc) now and it’s a huge improvement in stopping power and reduced brake fade when towing.
14WA has
1.0” larger diameter rotor
.5” wider rotor
Improved cooling fins
Larger caliper pistons (.2”) compared to the 13WL’s.

the entire kit is a direct bolt on except one minor clearance issue with the larger caliper and rotors.
To correct the offset I machine the tabs very slightly to align the caliper to the rotor.

it’s hard to describe where the machine takes place, but I can provide info on that if requested.

hopefully some of this info helps you figure out options to increase stopping power.

I also have options to increase master cylinder, brake booster and how to do the LSPV delete and install a manual prop valve for fine tuning the brakes.

 

Are you machining the mounting ears of the calipers? That’s what my thought process was to do. Trying to get free time to run and use my buddies mill to try it on a caliper I have laying around from a 18 4runner

think it was 2.2mm to remove if I did my math right

 

Yup. You just mill the inside of the ears on the caliper mounting tabs.

I take off 3.0mm to align it to the rotor. That seems to be the sweet spot

 

I shall mess around with that.
Makes me wonder if the wilwood Tacoma big brake kit can easily be adapted to the tundra. Rotors the same mounting depth as the 4runners. A lot more money though

the disc brake conversion is pretty cool looking. But as far as increased stopping power goes there really isn’t much to be gained. Drum brakes actually are more powerful than disc brakes psi for psi.

 

Yea they’re definitely not a massive improvement. My though was just to do it because my drums are out of round... oem drums are expensive.


And I have a set of 2016 4runner rear calipers sitting collecting dust.

 

Still waiting on them coming up used. $750 new my cost. No happening.

Sure. From my understanding the “go to” parts to be used are Sequoia backing plates and calipers.

 

Yup, sequoia stuff is what the kit uses. But I believe the 4runner stuff should bolt up. Haven’t tried it yet. Trucks got a bit other things to have done first

Is this a kit you make and are selling? Or did you just buy the parts and machine the calipers?

I remove 3.5MM's from the inside of the ears to align caliper to the rotor to make this a direct bolt on item.

I have them professionally machined to keep the surfaces perfectly true and straight.

 

So who can machine them? Any shop with a mill? I've had bad experiences with my local machine shop...

 

Well, the op does sell them and would be the easiest way to make sure it’s done right.

 

Do we need to private message you for pricing? Do you include new pads too or just the rotors and calipers? I think many of us would be interested in your pricing as brakes are one of the most discussed topics here.

 

I have them machined by a General Machinist facility. Most Automotive machinists will not touch these calipers or they do not posses the proper equipment to do so.

I sell either Silver Zinc coated or Red Powder coated machined Calipers for $350.00 a set with no core charge. Shipping usually ranges from $30-$40.
Its roughly a 3 week turn around time because every order is upon request and i dont keep any on the shelf.

I do not sell the pads and rotors to go with these calipers. It does not make any sense for me to do so since all you have to do is purchase 2010-2015 Lexus GX460 brake pads and rotors of your choice.

I only offer the calipers.

Pertaining to the Master cylinder and brake booster questions. Factory Tundra master cylinders are 15/16" bore. To reduce excessive brake pedal travel you can install T100 1" bore master cylinder and the Dual Diaphragm brake booster.

 

That's awesome. I've seen a bunch of your stuff on the FB page. It's a bit too.....different over there for me. I think we'd all love it if you could post more of your workings here. You and jose seem to have a lot of cool shit going on.

 

And the manual prop valve i suggested is designed to eliminate the rear LSPV (load sensing proportioning valve) and install a Manual prop valve in its place. Wilwood performance brakes makes the manual prop valve i used. You can install it in the location of where the LSPV used to be located.

Ideally you want to install the manual prop valve in a location that can easily be adjusted. since it is manual, you will have to fine tune your brake pressure depending on your needs (camper, towing, high clearance rear bumper, front calipers, master cylinder/brake booster options) etc.

The best place to mount a manual prop valve is inside the cab near the driver to make adjustments on the fly or in the engine bay near the master cylinder.

When doing the LSPV delete you will need to locate the inlet/outlet and return lines. Cap off the return line and mount the manual prop valve near the spare tire carrier and it will all bolt in.

to mount the LSPV anywhere else you will need a brake line flaring tool, brake line bending tool, brake line and brake line fittings. (metric)

The LSPV return line goes to the bottom of the master cylinder in the T-fitting. It would be best to cap off at that location and you will need to follow the brake lines to determine which one is the correct line.
