Spidertrax vs Bora (pics needed)

With the TRDPro isnt there a slight height difference that I could potentially squeeze the 275's in? I have been looking at the coachbuilder for the Pro's with the shackles and shims

 

275 would probably be ok. I originally wrote wrong size. Edited my post.
And TRD pro is probably the height I’m at in front. Pro comes with 50mm taller front coil springs. I had +55mm Dobinson’s coil installed.

 

Did you have to put your spacers on yourself? Also, do I need to take them off anytime i have tires put on and then replace them?

 

really can't go wrong with either. Just go with what you need in terms of size/price

 

What lift are you running? I'll be 3" up front and 1.5" in the back on a Radflo 2.5/Toytec BOSS kit w/ shackles.

 

I ended up grabbing 2" Boras (should be here next week). Will put my effective offset at around +9mm.

 

Running Dobinsons +55mm coil. Supposed to be a little more than 2” in front. 1” block in back.

Yeah that's a tall tire to try and fit under 2". 35s may still require a CMC on my 3", I'll find out soon.

 

Here are some pics of my Spidertrax spacers, painted and mounted. I also put a black mark on each nut and a corresponding paint dot so once I torqued everything, I have a reference point that I can look at and confirm that the nut has not moved. So far so good. I'm running the stock 18x8's which have a +60mm offset, so the spacers did what I wanted and moved the tire outside of the wheel well for a wider stance. I also just added Cooper AT3 XLT's in a 295/70/18. The rear is stock (untouched) and I have leveling spacers upfront that lifts it 1.5" which leaves me with a little bit of rake. The only rubbing I had was on the plastic pieces on the bumper side but like most people I just custom cut and redrilled a few holes to give myself plenty of room. I have plenty of room on the body mount side and I also clear the skid plate because of the spacers. I love my new look but I can already tell that I want to lift both front and rear at least an inch. The process never ends!!!

 

Looks good, thinking about putting spacers on mine as well. Have you noticed any performance/handling changes?

 

@Ckatz53 are you running into any issues getting the Trail Grapplers mounted on your OE rims? I've had Discount tell me that they won't put Toyo Open Country RTs on mine due to the width, 8" where the tire specs list a min of 8.5". I've also been told that I should just find a better tire shop, haha.

 

I ran 1.25” BORA’s for a few months. I decided to take them off because i didn’tfeel like the lug nut fully engaged on the lug stud.

 

Will find out next week when they get mounted! 12.5" wide is pretty wide for 8" but I know its feasible.

 

Curious of the concern there, does it matter that the stud isn't flush with the top of the lug as long as the threads are all engaged? I was under the impression that the length of engaged threads between the two parts is what's important and it seems like the entire length of the stud is engaged. Genuinely asking because I'm thinking this is going to be my next mod after I finish installing the remote start I just ordered today.

 

Those look pretty secure to me. Bora and Spidertrax are known for their quality and I know plenty of folks who have ran them on off road only Jeeps.

 

I didn't feel any change after installing the spacers and I was running the same stock tires (Michelin 275/65/18) for roughly 3 weeks after the spacer install. I did feel a difference once I put the new tires on but that was related to the heavier load rating, larger diameter and more aggressive tread pattern. Since this thread is about the spacers, I'll spare you those details.

 

Clean the hub with a wire brush and get ALL and any rust off the wheel hub. Make sure it is a CLEAN mounting surface or you can get a vibration from the spacer not sitting flush with the hub. Put a light coating of anti-seize on the back of the spacer before you install it. If you ever have to take them off, you will want to do this. I also put a light coat on the wheel side of the spacer as well. You don't have to but it just makes sure that the wheel does not stick to the spacer.

 

@Kojack Thanks for the advice! Also someone posted that they put a mark on the spacer and nut. I have yet to get out there and do the install, but its pretty straight forward. Anti seize, torque this nuts with thread lock, (mark them?), install wheels drive for 50 or so miles? , then pop off the wheels and re-torque as needed? (will I have to remove and reapply thread lock again?)

 

I would do about 200 miles before you check them. No need to use more thread lock. If you’re just checking torque, it should not be required unless they have backed off bad. If they have backed off, you’ll know lol. Torque the spacer to the hub at 110ft lb and then your wheels at 96 or what’s recommended for your wheels.

 

@Ckatz53, do you have a picture of your truck with 2" spacers? Debating between 1.5"/2" for mine. I have a 2015 with flares so wondering if 1.5" look good. I want them to stick out a bit past the flares but nothing too aggressive as well.

 

Ideally you should have excess lug threads past the lug nut end. You can see in the picture of the Boras though that rather than having extra threads on the stud it actually has an extra thread on the lug not secured to the stud. This gives you no margin of error if the nut is not properly torqued and could allow the lug nut to have some play in the unthreaded part nut.

Ive had Boras in the past, on an FJ, and they had a deeper socket and I had excess thread run off. Considering the price is nearly the same between them and the spidertrax I would pass on the Boras simply due to this picture. Its not a guarantee for failure, but apples to apples the spidertrax will allow a bit more security than the Boras, in 1.25" at least.

 

I have 1 interest in the set of Spidertrax that I have that were only used for a month or so. If he doesn't want them I will post them for sale.

 

What is this setup? How did it hold up?

 

Radflo 2.5s with JBA ucas. Rear toytec/resi with Boss 4x4 shackles. 35s on OEM OR wheels and 2" boras. Holding up just fine. Now on the same suspension but 37s/Rock Warrior wheels with 1.25" Spidertrax.

 

I want to run 285/70/18s on my trd wheels, hoping I can do a leveling kit and spidertrax 1.25 and get away with it. Any thoughts?
