Is there an option during installation to allow for the thermostat to be in auto mode and blow air when you remote start?

Not specifically. When the truck is started remotely, the climate controls will be at whatever you left them at. On my 2019 Limited, I believe 'auto' is a static feature that stays on.

I have an 18 limited and if I have it in 'auto' when I shut the truck off it is not blowing air on remote start. It also does not start blowing air until I increase or decrease the fan speed manually. It's definitely not the temperature it is set to when I remote start the truck, so that's not it. The only thing I can think of is it's something in the compustar setup.

Assuming you're using an iDatalink bypass solution, I've never seen any HVAC control settings in the programming menus.

My 2015 gmc 1500 had that feature. It would auto turn on heat or cooling depending on outdoor temp. Even the heated seats and steering wheel

On my 19 Platinum I leave the heat on auto and it will not blow any air until the truck is warmed up and it can actually blow hot air.

I have a compustar but I turn my heat to hi and fan up before I turn off the truck. Then next time I remote start it is running and warm after about 10 min.

    same here.

if you leave it on auto, the hvac will not work since the truck doesnt actually know its started since the remote gets around letting the vehicle know its started. they remote doesnt let go until you press the brake. (you can watch this process by standing next to the vehicle and remote start it. the remote start unit will unarm/door unlock, start the vehicle then lock the doors under the remote start module). once you get in and press the brake, the remote start passes control to the vehicle ecu and then everything works.

this doesnt work if you have the PTS system and not a key ignition.

if you manually set the hvac controls they will work since its set to dumb mode and works since it has power.

forgot to add a tidbit. on our 2018 platinum that has a key, another way to tell the remote module has control is when you unlock and get in the vehicle the seat memory buttons dont work (the seat wont move and the steering wheel doesnt move) until you press the brake to release control back to the vehicle. then the seat memory buttons work.

Not trying to hijack the OPs thread. Anyone with compustar that activated its auto hot/cold feature? Thanks

Just for reference I ordered my remote start from https://www.12volt.solutions/ and it comes with an Omega/FlashLogic module and my auto climate works during remote start as it is supposed to.

This is great info. I’ve always wondered why my steering wheel doesn’t set to my normal position when remote started. Nor does other stuff seem normal, but I can’t remember what. I’ve been shutting the truck off and restarting with key, guess I’ll have to try depressing brake.

That feature is available/optional in my compustar CSX but not sure if all models have it. Also, it needs to be activated during install.

Below is the excerpt from the compustar FAQ about hot cold feature:

“The hot/cold start feature is an optional feature in Compustar units that will allow your vehicle to automatically remote start when the temperature reading in the vehicle cabin reaches a set temperature”

i have not yet activated this feature.

OP, please check with your installer if the auto hot/cold feature in your compustar is available/activated.

I don't think Id like that feature. Sounds like your truck will be starting all times day and night whether or not you are going anywhere or even home.

I have the compuStar on my 2017 and the HVAC works and truck warms up. I always left the heated seats on high if it’s going to be really cold... haven’t driven it a ton lately but that stuff always worked for me.

The reason that i have not yet activated the said feature.

The default setting is off as described. Thus, it needs to be activated everytime before use by pressing (I think) a combination on your remote.

just make sure you have the ignition key in and turned to on before hitting the brake. :)
