Was very surprised that it didn’t bleed much at all. Guess since it’s in the hand I closed it up quick.

Sorry to hear Brian. I hope it heals quickly. Last year my buddy lost his pinky on a table saw. He is a contractor but was making cutting boards for his groomsmen. Ironic. It happened 3 days before his wedding. Found him the perfect snowboard!

Fully cut the index finger nerve. The outside is all numb, inside toward middle finger feels fine.

Pinky is much less useful than the index finger

I wish you the best for a speedy recovery.

I used to shoot with a guy who lost half his index finger in an industrial accident. He adapted his grip so his middle finger became his trigger finger and his index finger stayed up in the "safe" position. A few months of practice and you'd never know the difference.

    Still rolling stock baby....
Few years back we had a lumber guy cut one of his fingers off using the panel saw at the store, how he did it is beyond me, but we had to hunt up the missing digit, ice it and get to the hospital, it was a no go in re attachment tho.

Back when I worked at the plant, I saw many hands get mangled and digits go missing, heck one guy had the middle and fourth fingers on his right hand pulled out of the hand along with the tendons as far as the elbow. kind of weird to see fingers impaled by spikes on a chain puller go flying by with tendons waving in the air...

One idiot on one of my presses decided he wanted to see what was inside a 14 inch Cincinnati blower, while it was running, so he pulled off the intake hose and stuck his hand in side, BAM, hand was chewed down to the thumb by the impeller, the collector barrel for trim scrap was full of pulverized flesh and blood, idiot was missing 2/3rds of his hand and I got the not so pleasant job of shutting down a production line and decontaminating the entire line...

Ouch that sucks! Hope you get feeling back. About 3 or 4 years ago I was on a job site cutting zip ties off of a bundle of cryogenic hose. I was not in a huge hurry but not near any cutters. I ended up cutting across my left hand middle and ring finger with my incredibly sharp and serrated knife. I just happened to be right across the river from a hospital...and our area safety manager. Not the way you want to meet her or our area VP. But I handled that situation ok I guess. Ended up getting 9 stitches. I hit the nerve and still have numbness in fingers. They took all kinds of pictures and I made it into the company safety video...well at least my hand did. I used to tell the guys in my department I would autograph their copy .

Not Dumb, you made a mistake and you are owning it.

I Agee for home use the SaW stop is not an economic route. In my business it’s just an insurance policy. FWIW most times we have to remove the guards for our cutting. It’s an osha requirement to have them installed, but you can remove, you just have to put them back on. It’s a good reminder for the team.

It’s easy to find the negatives, takes effort to find the positives and there are plenty of positives in your accident.

btw the down side to the saw stop is it doesn’t work for conductive materials, there is a key lock to over ride it.

No doubt getting used to being left handed already. That injury will definitely take some serious time to heal.
