Deck System or Locking Bed Cover for Golf Clubs?

Taking my OEM bed cover back to dealer for refund...too much water leaks through from the seal they installed wrong. So I am looking for the best way to keep my golf clubs in my med secure and reasonably dry.

Have been looking at the retractable roll up bed covers and maybe putting the clubs in a waterproof storage tote, but also exploring the decked.com or other drawer slide system if I can find one that has drawers large enough to hold golf clubs.

Any Tundra hackers on here that have already figured the best way to keep the clubs dry and secure?

 

I used to have the Decked drawer system, and it was great to hold a lot of things! Golf clubs in their case, not likely to fit. Just the clubs themselves and maybe in a very small bag of sorts (not a golfer) then maybe.
I would definitely recommend Diamondback, but they are pricey and not guaranteed to be waterproof but likely the most dry your bed will be.

 

I am using an UnderCover classic, and it keeps my clubs secure & dry.

Does that cover roll up or does the whole cover tilt up?

 

Rex's cover is solid and I believe tilts.

 

Weather Tight
A full perimeter seal keeps the water out of your truck bed. Contoured edges wrap over the bed rails.

They aren't cheap, but I found mine (used) on Craigslist for $250.00 installed.

CL has been very good for me and my '07.

The cover has been in the Georgia sun for at least 10 years, I don't know what it looked like new but I can say that it shows very little weathering

 

I went with an Undercover Elite for the specific purpose of keeping water out and lifetime warranty. Super easy to remove but do need 2 people due to size (not weight). I purchased through tonneaufactoryoutlet, talk to Morrie for best prices on numerous brands.

 

Anyone have any input as to whether those aluminum retractable covers leak water? I met a guy that had on on his F150 and I thought it was pretty nifty how it rolled up like a windowshade and it locked as well. But have no idea as to how much water might get in the bed. Haven't seen it again to ask him.

 

I doubt that you will find a cover that folds or rolls up, that doesn't leak eventually.

 

I have the Retrax XR on mine. Only time I get water is when the car wash forces water on the rinse. Otherwise sky falling rain has not been an issue. I also have abed mat that would keep any water that does go to the bed away from anything on the mat as it drains to the bed bottom. I implore you to look hard at Diamondback.

An SE installs quickly. It can be removed quickly. It is extremely secure, and keeps everything dry. I’m in very rainy Oregon, and have seen no water in the bed after installing.

You can also load and strap 400 pounds to the top of the SE. Or, upgrade to the HD and you can haul 1400 pounds up there. You can open the tailgate without opening the cover. You can install if you have bed rails, or if you don’t.
Diamondback also makes a deep cross bin that fits under the cover, and would probably keep your golfing gear in one place.

Definitely check them out!

My Retrax, love this thing bed is always dry. Locks in any position. I like the flush look.

 

I have a BAKFlip MX4 and I have no water intrusion except for the tail gate area but I fixed that with weather stripping along the tail gate and good to go, I occasional will run my truck through a "brush-less car-wash" and have not had any water intrusion.

 

I am using the Extang Encore and it is does a good job of keeping water out. I had to make sure I put weather stripping in any place that water could get through but now it is doing a well. Mainly around the tailgate and on the top of the bed frame where the cover sits towards the rear glass. I keep my golf clubs back there and just use a bungee cord to keep the bag from rolling around. Works for me.

 

I’ve had two expensive folding tonneau covers. One was a “4 piece”, the other a “3 piece”. Both would leak.

I’ve also had a top of the line Snugtop brand shell... it also would leak.

Let us know if you find the holy grail or at least a mod worth a damn for us with existing lids and shells!

 

What else do you use the truck bed for most often?

Diamondback. Look through their outlet store. You can find a good deal if you’re patient. My DB HD was $500 off regular price. Nothing wrong with it. My Extang solid fold leaked as well as my undercover flex. They both leaked a lot.

Another vote for DiamondBack. I’ve got the HD and keep my clubs and push cart in the bed. Never leaks and have total confidence that they’re locked up tight. My truck also came with the OEM tri-fold and it wasn’t for me since I wanted to keep my clubs and hunting gear in the bed locked without having to worry about them. Yes the DB cover is pricey but so are my clubs, bow and other gear. Worth the extra $ IMO.

Also, love that with the DB it folds up (cab side) so when I’m backed into my garage I can still access the bed without having to move the truck forward and open the garage. I’ve only got about 8” of total clearance (front and back) when I’m parked in the garage.

 

I used a retrax on a different pickup, was a very good cover, secure and I didn’t have any leaks. It does however take a little bit of the bed room near the cab used for the roll up mechanism.
