A concern of mine for the cruise are the stops are pretty short. In my navy days we were in different cities for a few days. Seems like one day and were gone. I want to experience as much as possible in each place and one day doesn't seem like enough time

African safari. You should see some of the pics from my uncle in law. Amazing. They spent some major $$$ on a private tour up close and personal with the wildlife.

I have always wanted to go see Africa. Might have to do a retirement vacation....LOL. This is were we I would go. Depending on what you want to do and see, there are a lot of unguided tour stuff as well. This kinda eliminates the tourist trap feel. If I never spent another day on a ship or in the water again in my life, I'm good with that.

My wife lived in Greece for a while, and speaks fondly of it, but will not take the family over there now. There are just to many desperate people in that country. For Gods sakes, people were purposely infecting themselves with HIV to get a monthly allowance. That isn't a good short term idea, and obviously a shitty long term solution.

Have you been to Europe by any chance? Germany & Austria were amazing. I would move tomorrow...no kidding.

Tourist trap = probably safe, on your own, erm...good luck with that. They stack used tires on folks there, then set fire to them.......HIV maybe better?

I'm with you on both sides. Being in the navy, I might get flash backs on the cruise lol. But to answer your question I've never been to Europe and it's on my bucket list. I was stationed in the west so all my deployments were west. WestPac baby :headbang: lol

It all boils down to what you and the wife want. Make a list of pro's and con's and go off that. A co-worker just returned from an Italy trip. Sounded fun, but I just don't think he was that impressed. He wishes they went back up to Canada or Alaska.

Me and wife appreciate all the input. It's going to boil down to doing some serious research on both. Let's face it either trip are pretty amazing to say the least.

Where is the vote for stay in America??? Screw going to other countries. I'm not something big world traveler, but I have been to Europe a couple times, Mexico a few and to various other small countries. You know what I realized? We have it all in the US! I'm sure there are people from other countries on this site that are great people. But the number one thing I've found from traveling, other countries don't like Americans and the majority of (at least non English speaking countries) the people are pretty rude.

I love the US and even more so, Destin Florida. Just my opinion.

Since you probably want a vote on the two choices listed, mine would be for the cruise. It would probably be the safest choice since you are going with your wife.

Anything in the US you just have to see but most likely never will?
Funny, the first part before me quoting you never posted. Lol

I agree. I have no interest in going overseas anymore for vacations.

Well.... That's hard to answer. I'd really like to see some of the north eastern states, but it's so hard for me to make myself get to close to new York...
My wife has been asking about an Alaskan cruise. I'd love to go to Alaska to fish, hunt or camp, but I'm not to interested in the cruise part.

Well the question was for the OP...lol.

I have yet to walk in AK, but sure as snow is white, I will in the next 5 years.

We also wanted to visit the NE part of the US. That is a whole another story about gun laws and I just said screw it.

If you have time and driving, in this order:

Jackson Hole- stay a couple days. No hurry and soak in the views.

Yellowstone- make sure you head over to West Yellowstone and see all the attractions. This is probably another 2-3 days. Take pictures of all the idiots around wild animals. You will be amazed.

Glacier National Park- if God made something special just for us, this is it. Some of the best hiking and sight seeing I have ever done. Be loud when hiking, you are not at the top of the food chain. I can only imagine Alaska being better.

I believe the term is maul crawling. :D

Maul Crawling vs. Motorboatin'. Hmmn, yup, tough choice for sure. I'd vote for the safari, do it like they do on discovery channel.
