What buffer do you use and/or recommend?

Everyone says griots is the best for the money. I got one but haven't used it yet. Hope they were right!

 

Yep that's the one, but a 6.5 disc. They have a 3

 

I use Turtle paste wax, my hands and many beers of course.

 

I have a Porter-Cable 7424XP. I bought it as a kit with a bunch of different pads and 3 or 4 different Adams brand of cleaner/wax/sealers.


I think I paid over $300 for everything, but I've made WAY more than that by doing cars for friends and neighbors.

The nice thing about the Porter-Cable is you cannot burn the paint, unlike my old buffer.

We use the PC7424 with a 3" setup and have a Griots BOSS with the 5" backing pad.

 

I have the same buffer I bought on sale from Chemical Guys as a kit. Did all the research, made the purchase, haven't used it yet though.

Buy the Griots Garage 6" DA....affectionately known on detailing forums as the GG6. Buy the 5" conversion kit, and the Griots BOSS pads. This is the setup I use....it's a tough one to beat for the price. The polisher comes with a lifetime warranty, and Griots stands behind their products. They're just coming out with a 3" backing plate for it, that you can switch out for the tighter areas on the vehicle. It has more power and less vibration than the Porter Cable. Trust me, you will not regret the purchase...I haven't. Makes results like this a lot easier:

what should I expect from a buffer vs regular hand buffing ? Amazon had a deal with porter cable and chemical guys pads/wax..etc
does the buffer get rid of light scratches or trail pinstripes ?

 

Having a machine like the GG6 or the Porter Cable will give you the ability to correct imperfections (light scratches/swirls) in your paint, that buffing by hand would likely not touch. Even if you used the machine for simply spreading wax, it cuts the time down, and helps you spread the product more evenly, and with todays waxes/sealants, thinly. Spend some time on the Autogeek forum and seek the advice of the true professionals over there, like Mike Phillips. Take some time on Youtube and look up AMMO NYC (Larry Kosilla), and learn as much as you can.

As far as a Porter Cable kit with Chemical Guys stuff, take a look on Autogeek.net and see what kits they offer. I like some Chemical Guys products, but when it comes to compounds/polishes, I think there are better options out there. Two of their products, Petes 53 Wax and JetSeal sealant, are very good products, and I have friends who swear by them. I consider myself a hobbyist detailer, and I had no idea how many options there were until I started taking the time and doing the research. Best of luck on your journey

And that is why the Porter Cable 7424 is at the top of my list..........I don't want to have to worry about damaging the paint on what I'm detailing.

Its been awesome. I love it. It hasn't let me down. It has the low speed finesse, and the high power torque and elbow grease to get through any job.. I also have the Porter Cable 7424, we have recently fitted a 3" backer to it for spot work and headlight restorations. We specialize in paint correction and restoration, so we beat these things. You cant go wrong with either one. The PC7424 is a great unit for a beginner or a seasoned pro... The GG BOSS is a little more advanced, but not hard to tame. Take your time with either one and you'll love the results

Santa brought me the Adam's Swirl Killer. It's a nice upgrade from the P.C. a lot quieter and less vibration.

 

I've been looking at them...considering getting a long throw and dedicating my GG6 to a 3" machine...let me know how you like it...any idea who makes it for Adams?

 

I don't know who makes it for Adams. I'm using 5.5 in pads on it now, I've used it a couple of times so far, wifes car and to polish diamond plate aluminium. This is a nice machine, quite and not a lot of vibration, you could use this machine for hours without fatigue.

Just out of curiosity....whats the warranty?

 

I really don't know what the warranty is, I would assume a year, But as with all of Adam's products they have a 110% guarantee. All you have to do is contact them and they will make it right... That you can't beat.
