Not this guy. Replaced driver-side rear drum brake cylinder, flushed some air out the entire system, and also removed this old rusting velcro bed cover pack I got from the previous owner ;)

What happened for you to have to replace the cylinder?

Agreed. Then my stable could match.
Currently, I have my 03 S/C Tundra, 04 LX470 then my LS460. The next purchase is an SC300 that will get a 2jzgte swap for 700+whp.

Have to get my 2nd house built before I start that project though!

I have to open mine up a bit to get good fluid coming out. I also noticed that it seems to help catch the fluid to have the reservoir lower than the bleeder and have the vacuum pump above the reservoir. Not sure if it helps or not, but I'll pump the brakes a few times between bleeding and filling to keep the fluid traveling through the master and everywhere else.

my buddy has a 1jz-gte waiting for me to throw in his 93 sc300.. probably this summer.

my current list of automobiles is toyota dominated. 2001 tacoma, 2005 tundra, 2006 corolla, 2006 avalon

and enough tacoma parts to build damn near another 1st gen tacoma

hoping to add an MR2 with a 2gr swap in the near future

That's good info. I tried it on our Rav4 earlier and it worked. No idea why it's not working on the Tundra. I'll try again soon.

We’ve had my wife’s since new in 2014, love it. It’s done some pretty fun trails all over Colorado and the third row is just enough for emergencies when we need to haul a couple extra people.

Have to say though, gas mileage isn’t good. I drive SLOW, never go above 2K RPM, my ‘06 DC gets 19-20 MPG. I can never get more than 16 MPG in the GX460. I even got our Platinum Sequoia to give us 18-19.

I only use Shell premium fuel in it too, for whatever that’s worth.

As I recall, that was part of the deal to opening a factory here and not being charged tariffs.

full-time 4wd takes its toll for sure.

my LX470 averages around 13mpg. My tundra, I get about the same but im S/C, larger tires and drive it harder obviously...

What isn't working? Is it just that it's drawing air in through the bleed nipple. If so, that's par for the course.

Vacuum bleeding brakes really isn't very effective. Pressure bleeding works much better.

Yeah. I'm able to create a vacuum but as soon as I crack open the bleeder valve it's gone. I found a video where the guy says you have to remove the bleeder valve and cover the threads in Teflon tape before reinstalling. I guess as soon as I crack them open air is escaping around the threads. I wish I had known. The reviews for the Mityvac were positive with a lot of people saying they use it to bleed the brakes.

I did try it on our Rav4 and it worked. Apparently the vales have a better seal on that one.

On that note. I'm pretty sure the consensus here is that you bleed starting in the back. Passenger rear, LSPV, Driver rear, etc etc. The manual for the mityvac and all the videos I watched state that you start with the wheel closest to the master cylinder. Is there something unique about the Tundra?

Thats ironic, as just last night I was watching a documentary how the Germans and Japanese had a hard time connecting with communication/air space due to being separated by Russia. Their only and best connection was via submarine towards the losing end of war.

    Awesome movie/comedy BTW.

As I understand, now that I’m an internet expert, with ABS systems you start farthest away from the module and work back towards that and the booster.

I see no time savings with pressure bottles and hoses etc. other than needing a second person sitting in the car picking their nose.

I just fill the rez, bleed off 15 pumps, refill and repeat.

    Widdy Wack Jack!

I don't disagree. I have a Motive pressure bleeder that fit my European cars when I had them, but the reservoir cap doesn't fit Toyota reservoirs. It's certainly not a necessity, but it is real convenient, and a pleasure to use Since my last several vehicles have been Toyotas, I've resorted to the old fashioned pump method. (I'm in the process of fabbing a Toyota adapter though. I'll start a new thread when I get that done)

One more thing to add about the old fashioned pump method: you don't need a second person as long as you route the tubing coming off the nipple to rise up in elevation 8-10 inches. When you press and hold the brake pedal, you fill about 12 inches of the tubing with fluid. When you let off the pedal, the fluid is sucked back about 4 inches -- so the net gain is 8 inches per stroke.

Starting at the farthest wheel from the MC is what I've always done, and it's what I've always seen as best practice for every vehicle. The Mityvac instructions seem odd to me.
