Pictures of 275/65/18 Tires on Stock Suspension

Debating between 275/65 and 275/70 for my 2019 Tundra OR. I am hesitant to upsize because I fear losing highway MPG's - currently getting around 20 MPG Highway on the stock Michelin tires. As far as I’m concerned most 275/70 only come in E-Load which I don’t need for my usage. Only off-roading is on fire roads.

Mainly interested in buying Falken AT3W's as I had them on my 3rd generation Tacoma and they performed well on both snow and highway.

Ultimately, would love to get some pictures of people who stuck with stock size but chose more aggressive tires to gain perspective.

 

Stock TRD offroad rims and stock 275/65r18 tires. Isnt this the same as what you have besides being all black?

 

can't find the full size pic at the moment, but the pic in my avatar is mine with 275/65 goodyear trailrunners on stock height with stock wheels. I like the look, but am lucky to get 16mpg highway with a tailwind. usually 13-point-something mixed driving.

 

I am puzzled. 275/65/18 is the stock tire size that comes with the Off Road package. Toyota site has numerous picture of stock trucks.

275/65-18 BFG KO2's on stock TRD Off-Road wheels and stock suspension. Tires don't get much more aggressive looking that these!

 

If you dont want the 275/70, consider the 285/65. Looks really really good

Yes the 285/65 is only 5mm wider per side and barely taller

You think KO2’s are aggressive?

 

More aggressive than stock tires.

 

Most 275/70 I’ve looked at average 20lbs more per tire. Your highway mpg shouldn’t be affected much if any. It’s the stop and go traffic where you’ll notice it. Also going with a more aggressive tread will reduce mpg’s. I lost a little just switching from the stock Dunlop to Michelin’s LTX2. I would love to put falken AT3W’s on but reduced gas mileage, increased braking distance, reduced acceleration and stiffer ride make it a deal breaker for me.

 

The OE michelins do look much different than other AT tires in the same size. The sidewall is very plain and the tread pattern is not aggressive at all.

The difference between a 275/65 and 70 in the same tire is very hard to notice visually. But the 70 only come in E rated which most of us do not need (99% paved road).

I suggest the OP goes with the original size in a better AT tire like the ridge grappler.

 

I checked 285/65 18 tires and they are significantly more expensive than the other two sizes, 275/65 or 275/70.

I understand your pain. Most of the AT tires in 275/70 that fit our trucks are E rated. Sure wish there were some C load tires in an aggressive AT flavor in that size.

There are lots of SL tires in the stock 275/65 size but many are quite tame looking.

E rated tires stand taller with a straighter sidewall look. P rated tires squat like hell under our weight, gotta pay to play.

 

I have 275/65R18 (stock size) Wildpeak AT3W's on my truck. They are load range C, so still quite light and I haven't noticed any hit on the mpg's.

 

They look great, perhaps even great enough that upsizing isn’t necessary to achieve that “mean” look!

Stock suspension

 

Not by a lot IMO, but then I’ve never been a fan of KO2’s. Had a set once, didn’t care for them. The were ok on the road but they absolutely sucked in mud. Also, the tread was shot at about 35k. Got a set of Cooper Discoverer STT’s for about 2/3 of what a new set of KO2’s would have cost. Much better traction off road and I got 55k out of them.

 

Driving style has alot to do with tread milage. I just sold some 20" wheels with 285/55r20 BFG ko2s with 45k miles on them. This is how much tread was left. I will not run anything but BFG.

 

Congratulations. I will never run KO2’s again. Anything but.

 

Bfg ko2 lasts forever. But the ko2 just doesn’t have the look of the original KO.

 

OK leveled out here but it is the stock size KO2. For sure I'll be upsizing by a little more when they wear out, it almost looks undersized from some angles
