What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

You guys care way too much about brakes. Don't use them, you'll get better gas mileage.

My bed is off about half an inch.

 

i have to sadly use the brakes too much around here. lol hell my taco had tundra brakes. my avalon has Venza brakes... my corolla.. that has new corolla brakes.



i like my shit to stop because idiots abound, Plus im a cool kid with big brake kit bro. (want to disc swap the corollas rear and the tundra... and the tacoma... because im tired of drums)

 

I usually buy a bottle of this but I'm open to suggestions.

 

Check out my build page for some basic maintenance tips. I’ve tried to put as much as possible there that has been useful for me, as its easy for me to find and direct others to see/understand. Creating a separate thread for each thing, only for it to become buried, becomes harder to find.

If you have a question, then post it up on a separate thread. Someone else can usually find a great link or offer advice.

I get your point about time/finding stuff as the search bar here is awful. Also, the internet has lots of mis-leading advice (here and other sites) so one needs to really pay heed to what they get themselves into.

Best to do your own research, then ask around here, then go back and test things on your own and post results!

 

I just use the straight DOT3, as its spec’d and usually less cost than DOT4.

The DOT4 has a higher boiling point when new (good) but also it comes at the cost of absorbing more moisture from the air (bad) and brings it right back to DOT3 levels. I read this somewhere and saw a chart on testing. No link sadly.

 

Exactly. Drums don't have near as much clamping force. That's why me and @KarmaKannon were talking about if you need to upgrade the MC if rear discs are installed. I think more info or an actual swap is needed to determine what's needed/not needed.

In addition to smaller pads and less pistons, you'll usually find solid discs as opposed to vented ones in the rear

Good to know. I could see that being an issue for the guy that doesn't do any maintenance. You and I are both fluid whores though. So I doubt I'll ever have fluid in the system long enough for that to happen.

Ordered the ECGS bushing and axle seal. Got free shipping with promo code "TW" that I found on Tacomaworld. Turns out I won't need to buy or borrow the tools because there's a TW member I know in Austin who has em and will be doing the install and teaching me how to swap my CV axles.

 

6'2" 200lb. That was on the scales at the city dump that goes in 20lb increments so it could be closer to 5390lb.

 

I just wrapped up the rebuild of a 2005 A/C Stepside for my son. 267k miles (2700.00) rear end cover, full engine service and tune up, full fluid service, brakes, Hellwig rear sway, remote start, interior gut job, repaired the torn leather, added heated seats, tint, and a new steering wheel (ebay 179.00). The color is a bit light on the steering wheel leather, but a huge improvement over the original. Looks fine in person, goes well with the Limited Leather interior. Just need to replace the roof-line/windshield gaskets and done! Looking for the 2018/2019 ORP wheels with black accent if anyone has a set (17")... On to the next one for second son! Anyone have a worthy project candidate???

 

what is that wheel from? its physically different from the OEM.

I check auto trader, offer up, and craigslist, even Facebook at least once a week. I'm searching for a 97-98 T100 with a v6 and manual trans, but I don't want to pay the "Toyota tax" everyone seems to add to KBB value. Anyways you may have some luck checking those places. Also the market place here may have a few pop up from time to time. If you wanted a fixer upper T100 with the specs I just gave, there's one in NJ on auto trader for dirt cheap. Frame might be rotted, not sure. The rear bumper is rusted out

 

Just a couple, very dirty and needs a new rear bumper (spring time!)

 

I search every day, on all the sites. This one was within a hundred miles of where I live... from original owner who had the frame done, but not much else!

 

The perfect truck. You got it raw in its natural beauty before some goon messed up the suspension or engine/transmission. Or worse, tinkered with wiring and left a mess.

 

Yeah, I'm not surprised if the curb weights are a bit different than I showed...they were gleaned from a few different online sources, so they could be off a bit. What spec are you running? At 5K, and 100lbs of gas and 200lbs of person, that seems about right. I imagine the lower weights are single cab v6 2wds. I have the porker of the group with a DC 4WD, so I bet I am around 5,700 with me (200lbs) and gas and tools/junk I carry.

 

Stealer should have the axle/bearing botch job wrapped up today per the earlier phone call. Goofy Garage forgot the ABS ring in the order, but fortunately stealer has one.

Goofy Garage ordered the NAPA kit ($300 for axle, bearings, etc. minus ABS) delivered to stealer.

All in all looks like its costing the Goofy Garage around $1000 in total ($500 in parts plus $530 return check).

Stealer quoted $720 out the door for bearing job before the ‘surprises’. Writing this out loud for practice.

$720 less Toyota bearing kit (approx $120)= $600 paid to stealer plus additional labor cost TBD?

Might need to claw back $$$ on Goofy Garage to pay for Stealer additional labor but we’ll see in a bit.

I’m still holding two trump cards to be played if needed. Stay tuned.

Curb weight on the 2002 4.7L with 4WD is about 4500lbs stock.

+Add about 100lbs for extra large 285/75/r16 tires.

+Add 150lbs for full tank?

And she sits empty on the curb at around 4750 confirmed on scales. I run my truck as light as possible.

4950 (with 200lb driver).
