Dasaita Android Head Unit

I live in the high desert and sometimes reaches 130F in my truck out in the sun. No lag but like all computers (which is what this head unit is) sometimes it boots up to a blank screen. You will need to turn off your car completely, wait 5 sec and then turn it back on and it will do a complete reboot. This happens about once every 3-4 months. No big deal to me.

 

Thank you for sharing your experience with these unit.
Beside that is there any annoyance issue with your unit? Carplay and android auto works good?
How quickly does bluetooth reconnect?
Any issue with wifi range at all?

 

Just an update for everyone. I put the dasaita 10 inch into my 2014 tundra crewmax with jbl. Plug and play for the most part.
To do
Get new external microphone and run the wires.
Hookup front camera. Already bought but did not have time to hookup.
Maybe upgrade rear factory camera. Since I now see how low the quality is on it.

Unrelated but add the scosche wireless charger for the center console.


Things I like
Screen is awesome.
Boots up pretty quick.
All steering controls work .
Sound is good and system is pretty stable.

I use hotspot on my phone for internet.
Spotify for music
USB loaded for non internet music

Works the best for my needs. Not a fan of the default launcher.

Also, I do not like the Bluetooth dialer for the phone. Trying to find a decent alternative.

Bluetooth and wifi connect fairly quick.

How do you install it into the stereo?

 

You can connect your stereo to your phone or home wifi.
Tap on play store (you may need to login with your gmail account), find the launcher you want. Download it. Install it.

Finally did the install last weekend after all the parts slowly gathered over Christmas break. I went with one of the newer PX6 models with the built in DSP, CarPlay, and Android Auto:

This is a huge upgrade over the old Entune system. I don't know how much the DSP helps, but with the stock non-JBL speakers, the sound quality is a vast improvement. I did want to to get a dedicated LTE USB adapter, but after going over several forums over at XDA, it seems there's several tedious issues to work around. Ain't nobody got time for all that, so I put together my own LTE modem:


For now, it acts as it's own wifi hotspot that the head unit connects to at startup. The data speed is much faster than using my phone as hotspot. I went with T-Mobile because music streaming doesn't count against your data usage. The whole thing is just stuffed in the center console for now, but I'm working on having it connect with a USB ethernet adapter and moving it into the glovebox. My current issue is hissing or low pitch sound from speakers. Like grounding issue somewhere or some sort of interference. It was gone now back. Not sure from what. Might be all the USB Hubs I am using on each port. But its more of a pitch sound. Also the center backlight led turned off in the morning. Nothing to do with cold. Because at night it is not an issue. Only 8 - 10 am. Then after 10 minutes it turns back on. Odd.

 

Did you have to program the steering control buttons? Or it worked straight out of the box?

 

Has anyone found a way to adjust the radio volume at the lowest setting? I find it very hard to hear people with the radio all the way down. It's much louder than the stock stereo.

I did also go into the factory settings and adjusted the radio settings from 10db to 0 and not much of a difference.

Any help would be much appreciated.

 

Are you able to adjust it below 0 db? Back a couple pages, someone had set it to -3db and it helps.

 

Ok. So I just ran out to the truck. Under system settings, Voice I cannot lower the radio db below 0db.

I then went to the far right to Other and was able to adjust the Amp Power/Volume from 0db down to -6db and that seemed to do the trick. It appears the Amp volume can be adjusted all the way down to
-15 db if anyone is wondering.

 

The voice, i believe that may be for your bluetooth volume. You would want that up so you can hear other when they call.
So it seems you had found the right volume setting. That's good to know.

 

Actually under Voice in factory settings you can adjust Bluetooth, Radio, DVD, etc. all independent of each other. I adjusted the Other category and Amp Volume under it.

I was able to turn the lock/unlock beep back on using techstream

 

i think it's in the car setting on the unit. It's somewhere in there, you can adjust the volume while in reverse

 

you have to use the techstream software to turn it back on, i did the same thing, was able to turn it back on using TS

 

What is techstream?

 

The software that Toyota uses to program certain things on its vehicles. It uses a specialized cable but hacked versions can be bought online.

 

Could one of you 2nd gen owners with the Max6 tell me where this antenna connector goes?

That should connect to the car antenna plug.
Then the antenna end plug into the radio.

Has anyone tried connection USB HDMI touch external screen to the Dasaita.
I am about to attempt this. So I can have another screen right in front of me.

 

I have been following this thread since it's inception and am thankful for you pioneers who have forged a path for us to follow. However, now being at the point of being ready to pull the trigger, I have a couple of questions.

1. Since I currently have the JBL system but have plans to upgrade amps, etc. in the future, do I need to order two different types of harnesses? One for the current JBL and then one for when I upgrade to aftermarket.
2. Does the new head unit really improve current sound from speakers or should I really be committed to swapping them out too?
