I bought my 06 tundra new. Never had any issues until now. I noticed a wrk ago a humming/slight vibration sound when I stopped at traffic lights. A week later and it’s getting louder. I haven’t changed the timing belt yet. Could that be the humming noise! Ideas please.

Does it do it in park as well as drive? Can you record the sound and post it?

No. When it’s in park it stops. I don’t know how to post sound to this forum.

Check all your fluids. Mainly the power steering. Then start to inspect all your drive axle u-joints and center carrier for some excessive play. When was the last time you inspected your rear brakes? Go change all your drive belts, timing and water pump. Rubber do rot overtime .

Yes it is. The years 05-06 also had VVT-i which have been known to fail and require a bypass.

I think you are thinking of the air injection, not vvti...vvti is the variable valve timing system. The air injection is emissions related...they both only apply to the 05-06 though.

    Yes.

But keep in mind, although its due to be done, it likely can go much further before actually failing. Not that I am telling you to do that, it needs to be done, but its not like they hit 90K and suddenly go bad.

All automatics vibrate a little bit when in gear but held stopped by the brake, its turbulence from the torque converter and it slightly lugs down the engine. It could be something like old sparkplugs, dirty intake, etc that you are hearing when the engine is in this condition.
