I haven’t had any issues, and I don’t take any precautions to keep it off of the plastic.

    Thx Sean & Jason.
I figured it wouldn’t be an issue otherwise there would have been plenty said earlier. Just making sure.

I’ve seen the same warning, but I know a lot of people use it to clean their wheels. I don’t know how that can be avoided if people are doing that. I’ve used it a few times on wheels, and have seen no I’ll effects. A lot of dedicated wheel cleaners have the same chemicals in them. As a matter of fact, a lot of people use wheel cleaner in place of iron x to decontaminate their paint.

I don’t want to go so far as to say that the warning should be ignored, but I personally haven’t seen it cause any harm, nor have I heard of anyone else who has. The only problem I’ve ever had with Iron X is from me not rinsing it off quickly enough when it was hot outside. It left some streaks, that wouldn’t wipe off. Since I was claying anyway, it took them right off.

No problem. Like I said in the previous post, if it dries on there it will will take a clay bar to get off. Other than that I’ve experienced no issues with the product at all. That’s not to say it’s not possible, I just haven’t had a problem.
Honestly there’s really no way to keep it from getting on the plastic. Even if you taped it off it would soak through.

Need some help getting my wheels clean, this is the worst of the 4. I don't know what caused it ( I do not use tire shine on my tires and the wheels are smooth to the touch, can't feel any build up). I have attempted to get them clean with Chemical Guys wheel cleaner and saw no change. Really appreciate any help.

I had this happen to my wheels. Saw it after someone sprayed them down with degreaser and it etched the finish could never get it off.

Thanks for the info, can't recall them ever getting sprayed with degreaser. Hope there is some way to get them clean again.

How long have they been like that? Looks like a chemical dried on them.

CG wheel cleaner isn’t very strong, but it should’ve done something. Did you use a spray wax or sealant that may have gotten on them?

Not to my knowledge, I did take the truck on a long road trip and saw a load of snow and rain, my first thought was salt from the roads or maybe even paint

try a mild stripping soap like dawn to see if it cuts it off. If it doesn't, I would think a clay bar may be your next step.

Looks like Brine to me. They spray that on the roads for the snow.

It worries me that the cleaner had no effect. I sent your picture to Jeremy at Shine Supply asking for advice. I’ll let you know what he says.

Thanks for all the help, going to start with some Dawn and see what that does, if not, look at buying some Carpro Echo2 and seeing if that will help.

Did you have the truck washed somewhere?

That looks like acid wheel cleaner dried out and damaged the finish on the wheel. If that is the case, your only solution will be to refinish the wheel.

Not beyond a normal carwash to get salt and dirt off. Sky's The Limit Car Care suggested Scholls Concepts S3 Gold XXL compound to remove the etching.

I honestly don't think that you'll be able to fix the finish. It sucks for sure, something etched the finish and my guess is that they will need to be painted or powder coated.

At this point I may be thinking of a small buffer wheel on something like a Dremmel tool and some kind of compound.
