    202C = 395F and 214C = 417F.

I think if anyone sees trans temps that high then their truck is on fire.

But it seems the WS would be able to handle the heat better than Valvoline full synthetic.

    A bunch
Flash point will have nothing to do with how well it handles heat - that comes down to the chemical breakdown of the fluids. There's too many additives in them and each company is coming at transferring heat in different ways. It would take real world use and data collection to determine which one is better - so which one breaks down less and which one protects metals the best.

What was the last year the Tundra had a standalone trans cooler 10 or 11?

They changed it in mid 10 to be integrated with the ac condenser. I had a 2010 built in May 10 and it was integrated.

20% lower then a competitors truck without a cooler? Because both Chevy's I have owned ran way cooler then my Tundra ever did, my 17' Tundra was 176-186 on a normal day non towing. They took that cooler off on the 19's and 20's because they added other content people wanted like push button start and apple carplay, people were not asking for trans coolers or most there data shows a large % of Tundra owners don't tow so it got put in the cost cutting bin.

Whats the least expensive way I can monitor trans temps on my 2019 and 2017? I’ll be pulling long hills several times this summer at or very near the tow rating of my trucks (2017 Limited CM / 2019 SR5 CM) taking my tractor, materials and some implants to my camp. I honestly really don’t care about the 2019 as it’s a 2 year 24K lease... so I’ll keep my foot in it until an idiot light comes on or I crest the hill. Then I’ll hook the same trailer up to my 2017 and run the same hill the next week and compare. I’m really wondering about this... how much difference there is temp-wise between the two identical transmissions that is.

You should read the whole thread!

    OBD product link:
    https://www.amazon.com/KOBRA-Wirele...a-751691986698&psc=1&ref=&adgrpid=71715066929

And get the app.... wherever you buy your app’s.

I have an ‘18. My brother in law has a ‘19. We both have OBD fusion and the app mentioned above.

My trans temps run up to 195 and then the thermostat opens and the temp drops into the 180’s immediately. Wash, rinse, repeat.

My BIL’s temps raise and stay in the 225-230 zone without even towing. He is going to monitor while towing and probably report back.

Now you don’t have to wonder!

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
Its a phone app, download from your app store, go for the Pro version, much more features, it's only $5.

Buy one of these and you are set: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HXGX8V6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You will need to create the Trans TC and Trans Pan temperature templates, no big deal, just search on here for the formula/parameters. All other engine values can be read by the app/device straight out of the box.

Luck and enjoy those Toyotas. : ^ )))

Thx gang. Ordered one just now. Will report my temps. If I am starting up a long hill with 8,500 pounds behind me at 225-230... I gotta imagine I’ll be seeing 250-260 at the top.

Let us know what you get, I towed last summer around 5000 lb travel trailer , I averaged 215 and that towing on S4 with tow haul on and around 55 to 60 mph , going through hills , climbed between 217 and 220 , saw up to 238 on torque when slowing down in traffic and on toll and goes down after a few . That was consistent for the 6 times I towed with it

Hey new member here. Just thought I would add my thoughts on this subject. I read a lot of the posts regarding The 19/20 Tundras not having the traditional external transmission cooler that we all know and love. I got to say I feel like it should have one...However. If Toyota Says its ok. Then I will put a little faith in Toyota. The Toyota reputation is 100% built from the reliability of their vehicles and would not remove something to compromise that. The Tundra is a low volume truck so I don't believe that if they were trying to increase profit margins...I don't think they would start with the transmission cooler. Of course everything I am saying could be wrong and they could have done it to save a few pennies. The transmission cooler i'm sure doesn't cost Toyota much to manufacture. So why remove it at the risk of compromising reliability? I want to believe I'm right because I am sick of the other brands...that's why I got a Tundra. Don't let me down Toyota. Your my last Hope.

Will do - when I have time I’ll download the app - I received the OBD-2 the other day. I don’t see much point in measuring temps now but I am towing almost every day with my 2019. With outside temps in the teens, 20s and 30s I can’t imagine I’ll see higher temps... but I guess it’ll be a good baseline.

Maybe I’ll need the weekend to sort this out. lol I thought I’d just download the app and *kapow* the trans temp would be one of the outputs. :)

Question - is it the torque obd2 app? Or just the torque app? Thx.

Obd Fusion is also an option. You can purchase the enhanced pid for your vehicle for $9.99 which will include the temp sensors for trans and tc.

Higher psi caps supposedly only raise the boiling temp. They don’t reduce overall temp.

Will this work on the 19-20 to read the TC temps? the 19-20 use a different ecu and it's been a challenge to get a pid to read the TC.

Appears it supports 2019 based on what is available. Could always email them. I imagine the purchase is refundable within first 24hrs if it indicates it will work but doesn't. I also have Torque Pro with the custom pids added but i tend to use Obd fusion more when towing. Here is my obd fusion layout
