LEDs 2019 Toyota tundra SR5

You can get the 2018 and up OEM LED from @Roman and a harness from @iHacker for around $700 total if your tundra is a 14 and up.

I know its a lot of money, been there still on that bus so to speak, but from a safety standpoint they are the better choice. I know the led bulb replacements have come a long way, and there are some decent one out there, but they will still scatter light and not focus it like the correct housing designed for LEDs will.

 

It's a truck and just a truck, not a sick child, nor an investment. If you personally feel like a 700 or 1000 bucks pair of lights will make you happy, by all means have at it. But to demean someone else's choice simply because it doesn't rise to your very own personal standard is a bit middle schoolish. Plenty of LED light bulbs provide good lighting with a good cutoff line and without scatter, they certainly don't have the look of OEM or Morimoto LED housings, but possibly it's a priority issue. Perhaps one has other hobbies or other priorities that may rise way above the importance of the look of a headlight assembly, and just maybe an LED light bulb satisfies whatever one is trying to accomplish. To those that coughed up the money for OEM or any other LED light assembly, good for you, enjoy. Your trucks look awesome. To those that chose otherwise, you know why you did it, and as long as you are considerate of others and make sure your lights aren't blinding oncoming drivers, good for you as well.

Thanks I think so too! I tried the cheap way with LED bulbs in the OEM halogen housings and just didn’t think it was a huge improvement, but for $30, why not try? I have poor night vision so the improvements with the OEM LED assemblies was well worth it for me personally.

The real issue is why does Toyota put such shitty Halogen housings on the Tundra? My 2012 Lexus RX350 OEM headlights are absolutely awesome. Even better than the TRD Pro OEM LEDs

 

I don’t think anyone is demeaning anyone in this thread. I know I was not. I simply stared a fact that halogen housings are not designed for led replacement bulbs. I also said that some bulbs have come along way to correct that but they will not perform like a oem style led housing/assembly will.

IMO it is a safety issue for both the owner/operator and on coming traffic. Lights that scatter and blind oncoming traffic is a hazard no different than lights not aimed correctly.

I am all for personal choice and freedom to do what we will with out trucks but at the same time we have to be responsible.

as for hobbies my truck is one of my hobbies, cooking is another, you don’t want to know what I spent last year on cooking equipment. makes oem led assemblies look like a cheap mod lol

 

Choose the right led and it will look exactly like the halogen bulbs. LED bulbs have come a long way and the led chip is now positioned in the same location as the halogen filament. When I change out my halogens for leds the pattern on the wall looked exactly like the halogen bulb with a very sharp cut off line and a tight pattern. It's really up to the person putting the led bulbs to make sure that beam pattern matches the halogen bulb pattern. There are some pretty crappy led bulbs out there with terrible patterns and mix that with irresponsible buyers give led bulbs a bad rap but that doesn't mean all led bulbs are crap. I feel about 75% of leds are junk and it takes time, money and education to find the right bulbs which most buyers are not prepared to do.

 

He either had weight in the back of his truck, had the high beams on or the headlights were out of adjustment. Properly installed and adjusted they are no more annoying than incandescent or halogen bulbs. I've had my OEM LEDs in my 2018 for nearly 2 years now without any complaints from oncoming drivers.

Your last sentence is key. The problem in DFW is so many people do not understand it and just slap some cheap LEDs in their 2005 housings. I see it every day now.

 

none of the above. truck was level and had a mild lift. How do you know you are not getting complaints? The other drivers can't pull you over and tell you.

If he had a mild lift and left the headlights in the stock position, that is the problem. He needed to adjust them to accommodate the lift. It is NOT the LEDS, it is the proper adjustment of the headlights.

Nope, not going to open myself up to that. I will say the Headlight Revolution has a video on all the bulbs they tested. A good place to start.

I've done some research on here and gotten a few people recommending a certain budget friendly, oncoming car friendly, LED headlight bulbs for us Canadians.

As a few others have posted about, if you aim them correctly and do a bit of research, you can make them work. Many use it as a transition to full OEM LED housings, which is a huge cost upgrade

Why not? You are making claims about how great led replacement bulbs are when installed in a halogen housing, lets hear what you installed. You want to try to make those of us that have installed OEM or after market led or hid assemblies into posters who are insulting those who choose a led bulb instead.

As I said in two posts previously, yes led replacement bulbs have come along way, but as long as they are installed in a housing designed for a halogen bulb they will have scatter and light output that can cause oncoming drivers to have issues.

Everyone has a different use for their trucks, You want to run led bulbs have at it, I wish you the best and hope they perform great, but please don't try to make me or others out to be bad guys for stating what is simply the truth. Especially when you do not want to back up your statements with what you are running in your truck.

 

I'm not sharing what I bought to have the led forum police tear down what I use. I'm just sharing that if your responsible and choose the right leds you will have a perfectly acceptable outcome. Never once said "you were the bad guys" . Not sure where that comes from.
People are going to use leds regardless how you feel about them and they can do that successfully if they buy the right bulbs and know what to look for in a proper beam pattern.

In my opinion, the weak link is the OEM Halogen housings. There isn’t an LED bulb that will make a difference.
Why did I form this opinion? I’ve never had a vehicle with such awful headlights as the Tundra with the OEM halogen lights. It’s not the bulbs - there is a fatal flaw with the housings.

Just my opinion.

 

People get a little too passionate about this topic, IMO. My previous post was just to let people changing the bulbs be aware of potential hazards, and that they need to be sure that they are properly accounting for them. If you have LEDs in your halogen housings, but you have checked the alignment, made sure you have a good cutoff that doesn't blind oncoming traffic, and aren't scattering light in a way that gives the illusion of better visibility through the simple temperature change in the bulbs, then by all means carry on.

If you just swapped bulbs in and didn't think of any of these factors, please look into it. Get somebody you know that isn't an ass-kisser to play the part of oncoming traffic and see if they think you're blinding anybody. Don't have somebody else drive your truck toward you, because your own confirmation bias would be hard to overcome. It is for all of us.

Just 20 minutes ago I saw a gentleman driving a Tundra with what looked to be LED bulbs. I turned and pulled up to speak to him, he was nice and we had a conversation about the lights, my Bilteins and JBA ucas. He said he bought his LEDs on Amazon. They seemed just the right color, not too blue not too white. The pattern appeared good and no scatter to be noticed. Looks like even Amazon is now selling decent LED bulbs nowadays. I was personally looking at GTR bulbs, but who knows.

I wouldn't be doing that. You may end up flashing the wrong guy. If you do get flashed it's not the other guys fault so dont retaliate. He's just trying to tell you something.

I'm blinded by almost every new vehicle that is driving my direction. A Prius had me seeing dots the other day and I was driving my truck, if was not their brights.

My eyes aren't great but I'm 35. I'd be surprised if no one else felt this way.

Hell, that Prius I was talking about almost had me at a stop on the side of the road, I couldn't see anything. These stock headlights on those backcountry roads aren't doing me any favors either

 

Headlight are getting brighter and poor eyesight and older eyes make the problem worse. As headlights get brighter even if they are properly aimed if the vehicle coming towards you is at a higher elevation your going to get blinded.
