I’d say the TRD is no different than a K&N oiled or aFe oiled. The dry aFe is just a little less hassle. I don’t know much about the differences in filtration. If you go to the aFe website it does give you some filtration percentages. I personally have the dry in all three of my vehicles. I also kept my OEM filter so that I can throw it in if I’m going to be in a really dusty environment. I’d say it filters the best.

The pros of the dry filter in my eyes are not having to buy oil. Just the washing solution. Also zero risk of not enough or too much oil. I’m sure I have been guilty in the past on my vehicles of putting to much.

Can't say much since I'm still new to the scene of modding a Tundra but I'm thinking of doing the same for my last mod of the year. I'm thinking TRD and have Toyota service center install it so it does not void my warranty. :) I heard from people that putting an air intake on your truck doesn't really give you any HP gains or mile gains but you can hear your engine louder. :)

I think he’s just talking about a drop in filter and not the entire intake. If you were going to get the TRD intake, install it yourself. It won’t void warranty just because you put it on yourself. Save you a couple dollars.

it will not void my warranty that is good to hear. So back to the topic with the air filter if changing just the air filter will it do the same as changing the whole intake?

That’s debatable. The consensus around here is that any aftermarket intake isn’t going to do much. Maybe a few horsepower, but from what I’ve heard, more noise. Our trucks already have a cold air intake. The TRD box top is a little bigger and it has a smooth intake tube to the throttlebody. Gains are minimal. But they are eye candy, that’s for sure! Personally I just did the drop in aFe dry pro S filter and then added the TRD airflow accelerator to the box. I really don’t know how much it did if anything. But all it cost me was the filter and a $13 part LOL. You can also add the SAMB. (stock air box mod). Either way I feel gains are very minimal, but your personal butt Dyno may feel different LOL. Personally I’ve had my eye on the aFe super stock intake. It keeps your stock box but just gives you the smooth intake tube to the throttlebody. And a silly throttlebody spacer. https://afepower.com/afe-power-55-12551-magnum-force-super-stock-pro-dry-s-cold-air-intake-system

I also don’t really believe 18 hp gain and 30 Lbs torque.

I was going to mention that too. I feel the best options are modified stock, TRD intake, Afe super stock and the S&B. The S&B probably being the best for filtration. But then that comes with the question, good filtration typically means more restriction. So you have to wonder how much are you really gaining other than just more I candy from the S&B? I’m going to assume stock paper filters, filter the best and the S&B may possibly filter even better.

I have wet & dry filters for my S&B. Dry "feels" slightly better. Both sound great but I have long tubes & full dual exhaust also.

The long tubes definitely round off the package there! The intake by itself, meh, but joined with the long tubes, I would’ve done the same.

I used to use a oil air filter on my other car. A guy came over and wanted to look at my car and mentioned... "I get rid of the oil air filter and go with a good paper filter." Now thinking .. everyone has an opinion I asked,
"what are you basing that statement on?" Turns out the guy was an engineer from Caterpillar trucks. They tested different air filters. How they did it is the cool part. They imbedded radioactivity into rings. Ran the trucks and then drained the oil. Obviously, more radioactivity meant more wear. That was good enough for me.

I went the poor mans way to make mine a cold air intake and kept it under $100. I switched the filter out for a K&N high airflow filter for like $61 (Walmart) and then switched out my air flow accelerator for the TRD one $20 from the dealership's online parts store. I'm certain that it works just like the $400 one, just without all the aesthetics.

Does anyone know if the 2019 tundra TRD CAI will fit in a 2020 Tundra? The dealership here is unsure and I hate to buy and go to install and it doesn’t fit!

I am of the belief that CAI’s are mostly just a gimmick. They definitely make a bunch of noise, but I’ve never noticed much of an increase in performance.

I installed a AFE dry S in my stock air box the other day... I don't have enough miles on it to provide feedback yet, but it was a good deal and it should compliment the free flowing BAMuffler cat-back I installed 2 1/2 months ago.

    does this fit the 2014+ 5.7? I ask because I had a filter from my 2011 5.7 that didn't fit my 2017 5.7
