Maybe someone who works for Toyota can answer that for you. I’m guessing is a cost thing. This plastic piece looks to have color throughout the plastic. It’s a quality overlay while still retaining the OEM original grill

I think it would be a pita to wax that thing. Just my opinion.

In the instructions it says to remove the tape backing, apply the promoter to the OE grill them press in place. Did everyone use the tape? Will it stay in place without the tape. On my old Tacoma I had a grill insert and never bothered removing the backing of the tape so I could easily remove it. Never had any issues with it coming loose and was actually hard to remove.

Well I didn't wait for an answer and went ahead and ordered it. I have a black truck with the SX option (blacked out) but the grill is gun metal gray. This will be a nice addition.

For the tundra there was no tape included. It just snaps over top the current grill. It seems secure. I suppose you could add some 3m mounding tape if you want. You will be happy with the product, it’s quality.

Thanks for the reply. I was reading the instructions that was posted up and mentions the tape.
    Instructions.jpg

Im glad it installs without the tape and is secure. I wouldn't want to have it hard to remove in case the I had an issue with it.

I read the destructions also and I didn't see any tape and thought that I was missing it!! I tried pushing it on the first time just to see how it secures to the grille, and it "clicked in". I ended up actually installing the part on the grille. That's it......grille overlay installed.

How easy would it be to remove without killing it?

That's a great question!!!I'm not sure....I don't plan on attempting to remove it anytime soon. Hopefully I don't have to!
It would probably take some finesse...….

I was thinking if it started to have issues with fading or durability would it be an problem removing it. I'm thinking you could probably just break the clips off the back.

I have no doubt that it could be removed, one would need some patience though. It's connected to the OEM grille pretty solid. (Great fit)

Thanks for the info. It should look great on my all black (accept for the grill) SX. How long did the shipping take from AutoZone.

Just got my grill on Friday but was broken in the box. :( Called Autozone and they provided a shipping label to send it back and a 20% discount code for the new grill.

Got the new grill and quite happy with it. Very good quality and it looks OE. Matches my black paint perfectly.

Anyone know if this overlay will fit the older honeycomb grills? Are the older and newer honeycomb grills the exact same and is the Toyota logo the same?

Did anyone ever see a black honeycomb grille from a 2019-2020 SR5/SX model like Ruggy posted on a 2015 SR5 model?
