You can get some good deals on Shell Rotella gas truck synthetic oil these days. Big rebates can make it almost free. You'd be hard pressed to find a synthetic oil that isn't good to be honest. Don't overspend.

I recommend Amsoil Signature. Run it until your truck starts to use a little oil. Not a specific mileage.

    Mobil1 is good too

I'm using Mobil 1. At 6,000 miles on the oil it is still gold color.

I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum purchased from Walmart. I used Mobil 1 previously but switched to this oil after doing some research. This oil is supposed to keep pistons and rings cleaner, and the Tundra engine is known to have a problem with rings sticking, causing the engine to use oil. Oil 2.jpg

Totally unscientific, but castrol edge doesn’t feel as good as mobil 1 to me. I dont think the truck sounds the same and the consistency seems more watery.

I like amsoil and mobil 1, but im trying out the rotella for a while after the amazing sale!

If it has an API stamp, it is good. Synthetic SuperTech from Walmart is just fine. Buy whatever is on sale (with the API stamp), and you will be good.

^This. I saw some reports that Amazon synthetic oil is actually API certified and pretty good stuff for the money.

It is just their claim or sales pitch.

My truck has used some oil at times (and it has less than 50k miles) and I did some reading and found out that the 5.7 Tundra engine has a problem with rings sticking from the oil cooking on the top piston ring (I forget the exact terminology). This is a common problem with a lot of newer engines because of the piston design to obtain better emissions, etc. Anyway, I was using Mobil 1 when the truck was using some oil so I switched to Pennzoil. It seemed to help but I am not certain (too soon too tell for sure). I am not a fan boy of any product (well maybe Toyota) so I could change my mind in the future about this oil. I also only use Shell and Chevron gas for the cleaning as well. I am pretty sure the oil consumption is due to the ring problem.

Using Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W20 for 10,000 miles. I loaded up on 20 quarts of Rotella/Shell Syn 0W20 last month, so that’ll be my go to for the next 30,000 miles.

Any good synthetic oil should be fine. I use either Mobil 1 or Valvoline Synthetic.

Pennzoil Platinum is a good price and an outstanding oil. Quaker State Ultimate Durability is a sleeper oil that is fantastic and has the high moly that Toyota oil has as well as only costing roughly $19 a jug. Amsoil is an outstanding top tier oil but is too expensive, and Mobil 1 Extended Performance is right in the middle...fantastic top tier oil, but priced right.

    Take your pick.

Go over to BITOG if you got nothing else to do at work. Or if you wanna stay up to date on what oils are on clearance/rebate.

I'm sitting on 90 qts of free Shell Rotella Gas Truck thanks to BITOG

Please no one use this advise as far as mileage..... Should never go more the 10K miles between oil changes no matter what you use.
