I’m going to LT pretty soon but my parts shop ordered a SUA i96HD setup. If I wanna go this 3” setup do I still need to weigh the truck?

I’m very curious of the ride. I’m trying to save up for the mid travel kit from icon quote is about 12k local installed. I know the rxt leaf packs will go on hopefully it doesn’t sag too soon. This is on my list for sure. Thanks for doing the R&D on this future setup.

What is on your truck right now and what are your specific plans for the suspension?

Yeah man! I prototyped this with Deaver and DMZ 2 years ago.

The ride is exactly like the I96 should be. Very linear spring rate throughout the travel. But I have 5" before I contact my 3" bumps. So I have 8" of very controlled up travel and 9" of sprung downtravel.

Basically the ride is as good as you can possibly get with a SUA leaf setup. Ive researched the sht out of this including considering different truvck platform like chevy ford and smaller trucks like rangers. There is some valve changes you need to make to get the ride dialed in, but as far as spring rate, ride height, durability, and longevity this is as good as it gets.

Also, the ride is very soft and smooth whether I'm 300 lbs light (no fluids/firewood/gear box) or whether I'm at full weight with 35 ga fluids/firewood/gearbox/passenger. at full weight I have 7" uptravel, at unloaded weight, 8" uptravel, and if I strip The Truck (remove all tires/gear/tools/etc) I have 10" uptravel LOL

truck is still in stock form. I tow on occasion a 6k GTW trailer. I use the truck for utilitarian purposes. Picking supplies, hauling camping gear on occasion. Nothing ever stays in the bed so it’s empty unless I’m using it.

    gotcha

You're gonna have challenges with SUA and towing. There are ways to overcome those challenges. 3" are going to handle the weight MUCH better. But they will still sag with a trailer. If they sag too much you can look into installing a secondary air shock. Also, axle wrap will be an issue as well. Again, 3" leafs will have less axle wrap, but if its still too much you might have to install a johnny bar.

As for your original question, dont worry about weighing your truck in its current configuration. The new suspension is going to change the weight significantly. Just ask Jeff for the 3" leaf packs that were speccd for myself and Bruce and start with those. They can always be adjusted if needed but sounds to me like you will need as much as you can get since you want to tow.

Keep us posted and let me know if you have any more questions.

There are 4 sets of 3" SUA leaf packs, that I know of, currently ordered thru Jeff. If you're in a position to order 'em now you may be able to avoid a prolonged lead time. Just a friendly PSA.

I’m down to get some leaf packs just figuring out some hangers and shackles. I’m not interested in the kit offered here.

this kit is literally the hangers and bushings and bolts you need to do the conversion. Only thing you need to buy is leafs and TC LT SUA shackles. Although I can include shackles for an additional cost.

Not entirely sure what your thinking here

Super impressive Bruce. I haven't been on the site much lately, but I came back on this morning specifically hoping that there would be some updates on the work you have been doing. Keeping my fingers crossed for the MT option (and for getting a new job so I can afford it!!)

Hopefully I can check out your 3in LT setup in person some time soon

We need someone to commit to the MT conversion, then we ask Jeff to sell us some packs. If he says no then we have to talk to Atlas or someone else and see if they will do it. We also have a source in AZ that can do it.

btw, @papasmurf new 3" packs were performing spectacularly this weekend in Parker!
