I just ordered from megzip as well. Cheapest place I found and was $125 with the shipping to Canada. I have a US shipping address as well and it was still cheaper.

Did you get your parts yet? How long does it normally take for shipping from megzip?

Just ordered mine as well from Megazip. Total delivered was $121.80 to Virginia. Really looking forward to this upgrade that should have been there from the factory.

I got my handle from megazip quickly (2 weeks I think). I just haven't had the time to get the install parts or time/weather to do the install yet

No duty or taxes, so that was a bonus

I ordered from Megazip about two weeks ago. They told me one of the pieces is out of stock. They said it won’t ship until the end of January. This was the gray part.

If the Tundra is made in North America and only sold in North America do they ship the part from the US to Japan then back to the US? :plane: :notsure:

Just playing devils advocate here, ever think of why they removed the grab handle from the driver's side pillar? Some speculate that it was a cost cutting measure but I think it has more to do with getting a better rating on the small overlap crash test. The 2007-13 Tundra never had the small overlap crash test performed that I can find. Toyota knew the overlap test was coming for the 2014 so they removed the grab handle for a better rating. When the small overlap testing was performed on the passenger side in 2019 the Tundra failed and in the videos you can see the passenger's head striking the grab handle.

    Head strike occurs at 1:30.

Just something to consider when purchasing the grab handle for the driver's side.

Isn't the grab handle still in the Sequoia? Wouldn't there operators head hit it?

And what about the passenger, that person would hit it in the Tundra.

I'm not sure I'm seeing your point. Yes the passenger in the Tundra would hit there head on the handle but testing on the passenger overlap started in 2019 so it looks like Toyota just decided to leave it be because of the new model Tundra coming out.

My point was, if it is dangerous for the driver and removed by Toyota for safety, why not remove the passenger one as well?

And if it is fact dangerous, why is it still part of the Sequoia on the driver side? Wouldn't those driver's hit their heads on it too?

If there was in fact a legitimate or government issued safety reason, wouldn't they have to issue a recall on any Tundra, regardless of year, to have them removed?

So you feel it's perfectly safe to drive your head into the grab handle? The testing for overlap on the passenger side didn't start until 2019. It wouldn't be worth doing the testing if the redesign is slated for 2021. Also passengers would have a harder time getting in because of the lack of the steering wheel. I can't speak for the Sequoia.

The fact is that adding a grab handle on the driver's side it is possible for you to contact the handle with your head on a small overlap crash. Just thought I would make people aware and they can decide if they find the risk acceptable.

    @Ruggybuggy

If I felt it was unsafe, driver or passenger, I wouldn't allow my wife and/or children and loved ones to sit in the passenger seat while they are more vulnerable than the driver is. That doesn't make any sense to me, no matter when testing was performed or when the new model comes out. It's either safe or it's not, recall it or keep it in, it can't be both.

I'm not arguing with you but I don't believe it was removed for safety on The driver side only and they left it in other vehicles and in other parts of the vehicle.

I think it is a Toyota excuse to remove it, blame it on safety and save themselves $5 on every Tundra built.

I provided video showing it is likely that on a small overlap cash the passenger's head will hit the grab handle. There's nothing to dispute on that. Adding a grab handle on the driver's side would make it possible for you to hit your head on it during a small overlap crash. I can't speak for Toyota and dont have a clue on their thinking/reasoning.

As far as safety is concerned for the passenger riding in the Tundra. There are many other safety problems besides the grab handle. Watch the rest if the video.

My final thought is that adding a grab handle does increase your risk of injury slightly over not having the handle. It's up to you to decide if that risk is acceptable.

If it were a safety concern, then Toyota would not sell or install the parts due to liability concerns. It's a money thing. My previous 2012 sr5 DC TRD had the power sliding rear window and the grab handle. My 2014 sr5 TRF has neither. Money, money, money. Always about the money.

Your buying parts for the older Tundra so if you buy from the dealer they have no idea what your putting it on and don't care. Go in and ask for a grab handle for 2019.

Its definitely a money thing, Toyota is selling a lot if grab handle for older Tundras.

It's not about them making money off parts, it's about them saving money on trucks by not installing them. The safety BS doesn't hold water when the Sequoia has the handle still. That's actually the part everyone is buying. A 2019 Sequoia handle, not an older Tundra one.

Like I said before, I dont have a clue for the reason the handle is missing but it is a fact that putting in the grab handle will compromise your safety when your head hits it on a offset crash. Something to be aware of and if you accept the slight risk, perfect.

How could Toyota let all those Sequoia owners' safety be compromised then? It's the same setup.

I don't speak for Toyota. I do know that head to handle contact is not a preferred outcome during a crash.

True, and by that argument, Toyota only cares about the driver, not the passengers who all have grab handles in reach of head hits.

Exactly. If it truly was a safety concern, it wouldn't come in a Sequoia and it would be recalled in the existing Tundra's that have them and at minimum, removed from the front Passenger side

This was never meant to be an argument. I simply was speculating why would Toyota remove the grab handle.

Keeping it simple, your augment is that hitting your head on the grab handle isn't a safety concern, passenger or driver. The IIHS seems to think so. The video clearly shows a head strike and the institute mentions it. How much damage will it do to you skull, I have no idea. Adding the grab handle on the driver's side would produce similar results.

Just because its allowed on the Sequoia does mean it won't result in an injury. How bad that injury would be I don't have a clue but we can probably all agree there would likely be a head strike similar to the Tundra that we see in the video.

The reality is our trucks aren’t perfect. The other reality is that all CM Tundras do pretty piss poor in the offset crash tests (driver and passenger) but the passenger side does a particularly bad job in the solid barrier offset test in protecting the occupant of the PS front seat. There’s no argument to be had, the dummy sensors indicate pretty severe trauma to the right leg of the passenger and also head injury from striking the grab handle. That’s all there in the test results and on the video. The other reality is that the Tundra is outperformed by every other truck in this test. That ought to be a wake up call to Toyota engineers and I’m sure the redesign will address all of these issues and it will earn top marks from the IIHS, but our gen 3s will always perform poorly on this test. Given all that, the Tundra is a heavy truck. The solid barrier test forces the structure to fight against itself. In the real world, the likelihood is that we’d hit a smaller/lighter vehicle and the laws of physics give us the advantage. But the laws of physics don’t forgive that additional mass when we hit an immoveable object... all that energy has to be accounted for somehow. The fact that the F150 is 600lbs lighter helps it in this test. OTOH, the results are not surprising given there hasn’t been any significant redesign since 2007... and the Tundra does fine in the tests they used for ratings in 2007 (full front head in in to the barrier). These offset tests weren’t even dreamed up yet in 2007 so the structure of the Tundra isn’t designed to perform well in them. Personally, I’m happy to see the IIHS hold manufacturers’ collective feet to the fire and call them out when their designs fail. That’s how we get safer cars and trucks.

I’ll still probably order the DS grab handle tho. My wife keeps driving my 2017 and has to grab the steering wheel every time with the 3” lift and bigger tires. She prefers the height and ride to her 2013 LX570. Lol. So much for leaving it in the garage all winter. Who would have thought?

Comparing the crash test results from other vehicles doesn’t make sense. There are weight and structure differences. Heck, even the tundra double cab (which does okay in these tests) compared to the Crewmax (which performs poorly) is apples to oranges. The tundra vs the LC or the Tundra vs the Sequoia aren’t apples to apples either. But yes, our 2013 LX570 has the grab handle so the LC will too.
