What does the Motion Bypass Switch do?

One question I have for the FRAC V3. Can an interface be added to allow operation of the front and rear camera using the steering wheel buttons? I saw there was a similar FRAC system for the Tacomas that used the steering wheel buttons to switch the front and rear cameras. I thought it looked cleaner and easier to control the cameras. It would also help higher trim Tundra without an open spot to install buttons.

 

That would be cool.

 

Did an answer ever come about for this.

I hesitated to post this since there seems to be a lack of love for chrome on this forum (jk) but there is surely someone who can benefit from a picture of my choice of camera placement.
This camera (chrome NATIKA) is mounted quite a bit lower than most it seems at 24” above the ground on a stock suspension. It works really well for parking but is too low and the focus too short to double as a “dash” cam. The camera doesn’t stick out past the bumper at all.
I wanted maximum viewing of the ground close to me.

 

Any pictures from the camera view?

 

I need to retake them because they didn’t turn out as good as they looked on the screen but here is what I have for now.
View at night from outside the truck. 4’ from garage door.

Same view from screen showing night vision capability. Pretty grainy but usable.

Same location viewing into garage.

7” away from a box in front of truck parked in garage.

Any idea why the pictures are grainy?

 

I think it is a combination of the cheap fixed focus NATIKA camera lens, the darkness, and the refresh rate of the screen. Could be that the Google Pixel 4 XL’s camera isn’t as good as I think.

I’ll try to remember to get some pictures during the day if you want them.

Apparently I don’t know how to hold the phone at the correct angle to capture a good still shot of a video screen. I swapped out the last picture above. (Post#1269)

Here is a 12”x18” flag, camera facing down at about 40 degree angle 30” away.

 

Did you have to take the bumper off to mount the camera?

 

I had to remove the metal brace directly above the bumper cover and then take all of the top bolts out of the cover so I could pry it away from the truck enough to reach in and screw the nut on the camera. I drilled the hole from underneath but then had to get a razor and remove a little material from the top side of the hole to allow for a flat place for the nut to seat. It's a tight fit but I don't have large forearms.

 

Did I read there is a V3 of the harness? Just curious what has been updated

 

I believe it is for 2020's because of the different radio, same functions.

 

Is the V3 available?

I run 3 cameras off 1 switch on mine..

Its a 4 position rotary switch..

Position 1 is OFF (normal radio operation)
Position 2 is Camera 1 ON
Position 3 is Camera 2 ON
Position 4 is Camera 3 ON

I actually have a quick question..

Has anyone come across the issue that I have today ?

I had to disconnect the main battery to reset ECU so i left it off overnight and reconnected this morning.

Everything worked fine prior to disconnecting, but after re-powered up the FRAC unit isnt working. Im sure Ive seen this mentioned before.. Is it just a case of powering off and on again a few times to get it to start?

When did you buy your FRAC Harness?

 

I’m doing my setup now but my camera came with 4 wires, not 3. I remember reading about it but can’t find instructions right now.

What do I do with the 2 reds? Wire them together and connect to red connector on the frac?

 

nevermind I found what I needed. Install was pretty straight forward. Hardest thing for me was going through the firewall lol

 

Its all good.. re-powered tundra (did you turn it off and on!).. and its all working again..

 

Will this mod still work if I replace the factory HU with an aftermarket one? Like a kenwood or jvc?
