Toyota Acknowledges Defects on My 2019 Tundra, but Refuses to Fix Them

Thanks for the info, but I already contacted Toyota HQ. I have had a case # open with them since October last year. They have wasted my time, had me take the truck to the dealer to be evaluated 4 times, the last time they kept it a week! Then after all that, they eventually come out with the great plan to do nothing. A lot of people are sarcastic and condescending here on this thread about me being picky. Thats fine, we all are allowed opinions. As much as this truck costs - anyone should be picky. None of these issues ruin the truck. It could/should have been handled better. How and why would they waste 4 months of time and keep the truck so many days on different occasions just to say "we have decided to do nothing?" That is my point. If this is typical of Toyota - I'll find a different company next time to buy. Thanks again for your reply.

I think you have a dealer issue. I’d strongly suggest one of two options:
    1. Get a 2nd opinion at another dealer or keep escalating through Toyota Corporate. I’d call one, explain your issues and see what they say; or
    2. Trade the Tundra in On an F-150, or RAM. Guaranteed your experience with either of those will make you appreciate the good ‘ol days of a minor paint imperfection.

Is it that they decided to do nothing or they've explored all options and realized there's nothing they can do about these issues?
Better these problems than GM's supposed inability to fix a brake failure, loss of infotainment system or leaking rear window.

Or Ford's F250/F350 Death Wobble issues, and let's not forget the Ford truck torque converters grenading for decades.

Seriously, you’re the one who wasted 4 months worrying about these issues. You’re the one who chose to drop the truck off and leave it there. You’re the one who kept pushing even after they told you, politely I assume since you aren’t complaining about how you’ve been treated, that these issues were normal in the manufacturing process. Also, these issues were all existing when you took delivery, and you didn’t notice them at that time. You yourself said that you’re just nitpicking. So now you’re here complaining that Toyota didn’t kiss your a$$ and somehow reward you for pouting? What do you want, a manufacturer buy back? Give me a break.

And if you aren’t looking for a buy back, what kind of resolution do you want? Would you seriously want them to pull the brand new bed off the truck, remove all those fasteners that were installed robotically in the factory and have some guy with an impact gun and a flathead screwdriver put it back together? And then I’m assuming you want them to repaint the entire truck to blend in the new bed? As for the flakes you see in the paint only when it is “polished”, do you really want their body shop to sand, repaint and then blend it in in some local body shop paint booth? That’s nuts. Second hand painting won’t be anywhere near as good as the original paint that was applied in the $50,000,000 climate controlled factory paint booth. And the front trim? I have two Tundras and if I put my face 10 inches from the mounding I guess I can see what you’re talking about. If I take a half step back, it isn’t even noticeable. If you’re that OCD you need to find a different truck. The great thing is you’ll be able to trade this one in for very close to what you paid for it and you can move on to something that makes you happy.

Every new or newer truck I ever owned had a level bed and correct body lines and gaps..... trust me, I check because I am pretty anal about that kind of stuff.

There is (or should) some type of final quality control with any manufacturer and any body alignment or paint flaws should be noticed and fixed prior to shipment to the dealership. Those are obvious flaws to the trained eye (QC inspector).

Mechanical problems on the other hand are not always that obvious and that is where the warranty kicks in.

I get it. Had the same issue with my tundra for a bed that wouldn’t stop squeaking over bumps. Opened a case, and they told me to f-off. I recently traded in for a 2019 Ram2500 Cummins and it is leaps and bounds nicer than the tundra. Doesn’t squeak either.

If I could see that my truck is leaning to one side, I wouldn't accept that either. Especially on a brand new platinum. 1 inch over 5 feet is very noticeable

I will accept minor pain imperfections, but if my bed was noticeably uneven or if my hood bulge popped loose I would expect Toyota to fix it. If we accept these flaws as normal then the designers and engineers will allow them to continue from the factory and likely get worse.

Maybe I misread the bed Unlevel complaint.

Is one side lead spring sagging more or is the floor of the bed unlevel in relation to the bedsides?

They put it on alignment rack and found the frame to be level, but the body/bed was what was uneven.

so the bed mount on the frame could. Be a little lower on one side for example?

I truly emphasize with you. That taste in your mouth is horrible. The way they are treating you is far from exceptable. The worst part is that is far too common with dealerships.

You’ve been offered a lot of great advice. Goodluck

FWIW I’ve had way worse issues with ram, gmc, and ford. Google “Reagor Dykes Lawsuit”. I was a part of that too.

I had an issue or 2 with my new Tundra. I also had pics......Toyota also fixed the issue......fyi, my 3rd steering wheel looks GREAT! I did have to switch dealers to get a remedy.

Imagine going to the doctor, complaining that you have more hair on your left leg than the right leg, damn man. Move on with life, those are not issues that stops the vehicle taking you from point A to B. I want to shake the hand of the guy or girl who becomes your significant other.

I was just telling the wife how much I love my 41k 2016 CrewMax L. Haven't even replaced tires yet, but changed to an AGM out of caution.

The bed sides have some waves I guess.. The plastics are easily scratched, a molding on the roof flew off (replaced under warranty) and the paint has some dull spots where the clear is questionable.. But it runs beautifully and it's been a good truck.

I wouldn't expect precision from any truck manufacturer to be honest. Wife's Lexus has some quirks too. Porsche and Mercedes... Maybe Audi are close exterior wise, but a train wreck with interior and electronics. Not to mention mechanics hate working on them as engineers dictated everything under the hood.

Sounds like the OP has a precision based job/personality. Nothing short of Aerospace has such standards anymore, especially today. :welder:

When I bought my 2011 Tacoma, Toyota addressed every little squeak I complained about, and fixed everything. When I bought my 2018 Tundra, my steering wheel looked a little dry rotted. They replaced it. As a dedicated whiner, I can attest Toyota will fix petty issues, if you get the right service dept.

Irritating & frustrating, but very minor issues compared to issues I had with both Ford and Honda, who also refused to repair the problems. No excuses, just said NO.

    I'll stay with Toyota.....

I am sorry guys but my iphone does not take good enough pics to see the paint specs. The dealer used a nice higher res camera and captured them. They are not huge or else I would have noticed before I bought it. They are small, look almost like the spray gun had sand or dust in the hose when painted. You can feel them with your fingernail. No one would see the spots unless looking for them. Some folks have given their opinion I'm too picky. That is their opinion. $50k is a crap load of $. Quality, fit finish and workmanship should be there. I appreciate everyone that had positive feedback and suggestions. I am awaiting one final call from the Toyota HQ guy sometime this week after he appeals the decisions for me. I dont need any further input at this time and thanks again for those who were nice enough to try to offer constructive input.

I thought I was the only one. Mine flew off at the car wash and even with replacing the self adhering clip it still does not lay correctly. Did yours come off while driving?
