Any body know how and what dealerships use for tire shine and how it’s applied?

I Always like the coverage and how the tires shine, when you pick your new car from the dealer. Anyone know what type of tire shine is used and how it is applied?

 

I'm sure that it's dependent upon what product that they use; and that depends upon where they get it and what it costs them.

They usually use the cheapest shit available to them. Gone in one wash.

 

Or it's all flung up onto the paint by the time you get home.

 

I think what I have issue with the most is getting full, even coverage on the tire. That’s really what I need help with.

 

I’m using a product from Shine Supply right now and I like it. It’s called Decked Out, and depending on the ratio you use, it can either be a satin finish or a high gloss. I also use it on my undercarriage and wheel wells

 

I just have the subscription package with the local car wash that has the tire shine.

I can go through up to two times a day for $28 a month. Yes there are cheaper here, but they suck.

I use the cheap stuff from Wal Mart works as well as the the that costs 2x

It appears to be clear, sticky, non-drying epoxy applied with a fire hose by Helen Keller.

 

I suspect @gdisarray has it right. The result is OFTEN more about the operator than the product...some of those dealer detail guys are artists working for peanuts.

Hmmm... I don't put anything on my tires. Maybe I'm wrong, but the thought of putting chemicals on my sidewalls for looks just doesn't make sense. I keep thinking of one well known brand that when applied to the dashboard, caused it to develop a whitish haze, which required more of that junk to get rid of the haze (which it created), in an endless loop. I pass on that stuff, and just wipe them down and rinse off. They look fine without the fake 'wet look'.

 

I've always been partial to Son of a Gun. I spray it kinda liberally so that it's even. Then I wipe the overspray from the wheel. When it's dry it doesn't have that shiny look, which I don't care for anyway, it looks silly to me. Even after a couple more washes and rainstorms it leaves the sidewalls looking new and dark, not gray. Even on the rock crawler that I used to have, it made the sidewalls look new, the stuff would even seem to take out some of the soft scuffs to the sidewalls from rocks.

 

If you are worried about even coverage then you could use a microfiber cloth or I think there are sponges designed to spread/apply tire shine. I like the chemical guys stuff. I just use a microfiber cloth to spread it all out. My tires might brown more when I use it though. It's hard to tell because my truck sees dirt and such fairly often. No idea what a dealer would use.

Whatever you use- my tip is to use a sponge. It comes out much more even and glossy. Spray tire shine , let sit for 10 min or so and then wipe off with a sponge. Or apply with a sponge.
