What makes changing the windshield on a 100 series Land Cruiser (1998-2007) so hard, what questions should be asked the installer?

Well first off I wouldn’t be using safelite. Contact your Toyota dealer or body shop and see who they sub contract and then contact them. But to answer your question it’s not difficult. The side moulding are riveted on which without prior experience they might not know and just try prying it off which will bend them and they won’t fit the same. It is important though to make sure that take the cowl off and not jump it by leaving it on cause then there is a potential for wind noise and water intrusion. But again the side moulding must be removed correctly and then re-riveted on. The job with everything should cost 2-300 bucks!!

What is the best way to remove a windshield from a parts car that you want to then install again in another vehicle?

Honestly have u ever see ballistic glass it’s literally 5 or more inches thick with Kevlar layers it’s crazy. As far as the glass they used in that I have no idea of the composite or what ever they use to make it sir. I can’t answer that question in all honesty

Aside from the factory windshield for the 2nd gen Tundra, which most insurances don't cover. What is a comparable option. Safelite is terrible. I know they have Gorilla glass for the F-150 and keeps, but very expensive from what I've read. Thanks

Aerindle. Now that it’s aftermarket it depends on how close they installer set it to the punch weld, type of urathane used, but on that I would use a fien tool. U could go to a local auto body supply store and get some wire specially for glass removal. But I do suggest watching some diy videos to get the gest of it. Google is a phenomenal thing when you need a rough idea of something. Please bears in mind it is glass and the chance of removing it without fail is 50/50 even for a professional. Now on the other hand if the car were gutted completely u could use a torch to heat heat the back side of the pinch weld it will heat he paint and primer to the point it will release from the metal. But again chance of breaking it or worse. Pleases use caution on whatever you chooses to do. I’d hate to hear anyone got hurt trying any of the above. Good luck !!

Rons23...... no one except for Ford which in turn is carlite manufacturer’s there own glass. Every company sublets it out different company’s for different years. It’s stupid iv literally gotten an aftermarket windshield with the Gm logo etched off of it by the manufacture. So in turn look at the windshield at the dot stamp and you will see either Pilkington, fyg, sekurit,ACG,Pgw etc. or look at you side window also labeled. Request that manufacture from you glass shop. When produced for let’s say Toyota they will run a whole load for them then stop and remove the Toyota logo from the press and carry on and label them aftermarket for the most part. Now if you have lane departure or fwd collision on it and it’s after a 16it has to be OEM or the dealer won’t & cant recailabrate the system. But yeah fyg is a good company. They are out of China but are now produced here in the us

Where can I find the best price on a rear sliding window for a 2003 Tacoma regular cab? The prices around here are shocking!

So, we had a rare freezing night in south MS which left my wife's Audi with frost on the windshield the other day. She used a coke can to scrape it off and now there are scratches all over the windshield. Is there a way to polish this out? Please help @dessodo79! Thanks man!

Hammerdog...there an arm and a leg cause it’s a bonded unit everything is made encapsulated with an injected moulding that’s y there so expensive then to boot there is a decent amount of labor. It might b worth finding a used one and having a shop install it for you. Food for thought stay away from the aftermarket designs like cr Laurence. Stick with what’s call OEM equivalents. There gonna fit much better and less problems. It’s all I install aside from OEM for rear sliders. Sorry I couldn’t b more help. Ask for a fb22482ypy or the superceed # of fb26593ypy stay away from fy95049

CNE0207... there is no way to remove stock tint it’s made into the glass. But you can tint over it. If you wanted to physically change the color. The only way would be to put regular green tint glass back in which is what most vehicles have even though people think it’s clear

Beau... so if your looking at I’m gonna say the can left more of a metallic mar than a scratch. If that is the case you could use jewelers roush/ rare earth I can’t think of the chemical name for it off hand but that a bit of water make a paste and rub it out. Or you can use some foam glass cleaner with some #0000 steel wool and try a spot ( that’s an old recon trick).. use only #0000 or it will scratch the glass. If it is indeed scratched unfortunately time to replace cause when u buff glass then u start to take away from the material and now you end up with waves and blend in the glass which will cause eye strain and headaches....

all I can seem to find in that 03 taco is aftermarket. But honestly it’s a rubber set window still metal encapsulated but t
It should run around 350 ball park. That would b an easy one to get from a parts yard

A decade ago, I had a chip on my '05 Tundra and progressed on a crack. I had safelite replace it, I noticed immediately that the truck is hotter inside than it was before I had it replaced. I called safelite and they claimed it's with in or better than factory specs. I asked the insurance about getting an OEM replacement and they insisted that the aftermarket is the same or better.

I hope with the TSS on newer Toyotas, replacing a cracked windshield will only be done in the dealership with OEM parts.

Daughters Rav 4 has leaked since the Honda dealer replaced the windshield. I have read that Rav4s can develop leaks if not properly sealed around the air box. I am hoping that a good windshield shop can pop it out and reseal.
