hey everyone, I am new to this forum and was curious if anyone had the same problem as me. so long story short my 2008 double cab 6.5 foot bed was taken back to the dealer for the factory or dealer (in mid 2009) installed plastic bed liner rubbing the paint off in the bed and discoloration of the back bumper or delamination as toyota called it. Toyota replaced the bumper free of charge due to the corrosion warranty and the dealership not undercoating the back of the bumper, great no problem there. but never in any of the records did the service rep record that the bed could corrode! later to find out when taking the truck to get a spray in liner I dropped it off in august of 2016 later to get a call saying I should take a look at my bed before they did any work to find a hole rotten through the bed an paint that was bubbled, cracked and flacking off. I did some research on line to find a tsb for my exact problem. its TSB-0101-12, I never got word of this till I dug online to find this! I took the truck to Toyota to be told they could not help me because there was no warranty. so I contacted the north east regional claims manager to be told that since there was no record of this complaint during the warrantee period they could not assist. would anyone have any advice on where to turn I might trade the truck in to not have to replace the bed

    That's unfortunate.

Personally I am not a fan of plastic bed liners for this exact reason.

Wears the paint in some areas and traps moisture, results in one thing, corrosion.

its not from the bed liner it rotted from the bottom up, it was also either garage kept or parked bed facing down hill to let water if any drain

Sorry I thought you meant it should be a warranty issue because it was caused by the OEM liner, which had worn the paint in the past.

I think it should be taken care of by Toyota because it was complained about but never recorded due to the dumb service person not putting it in the records with in the warrantee period. Toyota should stand behind their product. the rest of my truck is near flawless and was under coated twice and rinsed off the undercarage at least once a month. so there is no reason for there to be any rust let alone rot!

I suggest buying a new bed. I don't believe your claim that it is Toyota's fault is accurate. If it rusted from underneath it is because didn't properly protect it from the elements and salt

Rust happens. I wish it didn't, but it does, especially with salt exposure and exposure to the nasty chemicals put on the roads up North now.

Like @tye said, if it's from the bottom up, it's from whatever it was exposed to.

It's pretty hard to find a 9 year old vehicle up North without rust somewhere.

I had a 2000 gmc jimmy with surface rust in a few spots on the undercarriage but absolutely no rot. i don't believe i should have to pay for a new bed because as a consumer i did my part and had the truck undercoated twice and rinse it down to prevent this from happening. also Toyota knows of this problem (the TSB) use to their coating from the factory not being properly applied. please let me know if I'm being unreasonable but they should stand behind their fault.

"I am a manager at a Toyota store, bought this pre-owned truck, 2008 Toyota Tundra with 28000 miles. Or was about to. Was going to put a spray bedliner in when the place called me saying I should look at the bed first. I get there and it is bubbling from underneath the bed, 5 spots are rusted out badly to where it is soft. I would have bought the truck had Toyota fixed this. When I spoke to the rep I was dismissed like a child. It's out of warranty, anything else?

There is a bulletin within Toyota that there is an ongoing issue with this. When I said how would the original customer have known when the original bed liner was still on it? Her response was I put too much into the truck, I should have inspected it better. This is terrible. I am a Toyota Homer, I drink the kool aid. I love this product and can defend just about any action. But this is terrible. They know there is an issue, yet shy away from taking care of it.

Who ever buys this truck I'm sorry. $7000 TO FIX. Too expensive for me. Just needed to get this off my chest. Toyota lost a loyal customer today, sad thing is, one who works for you. If you can't stand behind your product don't expect me to lie for you."

    Signed - Very Disappointed

ouch. Salty roads and bed liner shifting didn't help here.

if you look in the pictures there are bare metal spots in the paint from the bed liner but they are not rusted at all, these spots were not causes by the bed liner those bare metal spots are what i wanted to protect from rusting come to find the seams for the bed cross members were not coated properly causing the issue i have. after seeing Toyota replace many gen 1 frames due to not being coated properly why would they not replace my bed due to their Improper corrosion protection procedure? that's what I'm trying to understand

Did you call the national HQ customer service hotline? If not, I'd start there and see if they will do anything for you.

call national HQ then let us know the outcome. Do you have proof of the corrosion protection being done ? was it done at a dealership ?

thank you guys for the information ill give them a call tomorrow. and yes the dealer undercoated it twice the first undercoating job was unacceptable so i refused delivery until it was done right, the first time the dealer only sprayed the outside of my frame rails and my muffler! so i made them re do it than took delivery there is no record at the dealer of that information either. very frustrating!!!

i hope so as well, i really love my truck. the only things i don't like are my 10.8 mpg and my rotten bed! leaning to trading in for a same configuration trd pro tundra or a gmc canyon with the 2.8 duramax cant beat the 28 mpg! but i love having the pride of my paid off beast of a truck and not having a loan maybe its worth just putting a new bed on if it comes down to it.

I posted a thread about this about 2 years ago on TT. My 2010 had this issue. I took it to Toyota with the TSB printout and I got a whole new bed and tailgate. They looked at the bed, ordered one up, and called me when it came in. They even sprayed in a new bed liner for free. They said, "it came in with a spray liner, it will leave with one" Here's alink

i just contacted Toyota and made a corporate complaint, i was told the ruling of the regional claims manager could not be changed due to my 5 year corrosion warranty being up. the only way Toyota will assist in correcting this problem will be if there was a "warranty extension for this issue" or if it was made a recall other than that i was told I'm on my own

i will probably wait for my tax return and buy a new 14+ bed and bumper other than the rusted bed my truck is great plenty of power, awesome offroad, and its paid off. i don't need anything more than what i have I'm just disappointed Toyota offered no help the only thing i have going for me is that the dealer that messed the warranty complaint offered me a new bed at dealer cost
