What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

as much as i shouldnt i probably will order them tomorrow... if i can get the camber tabs straight i'll order them... if i cant then im stuck waiting anyway.

probably should get the wheel bearing in the driver spindle done too... im pretty sure its not bent

 

I checked out your tacoma awhile ago on the tacoma forum. Hows that coming along?

 

VERY VERY slow.. the tundras taken over for now. i need it to be ready to haul that taco around while i work on it this spring/summer. hoping to have the full frame assembled and ready to rock by the end of summer. body should be going to get done around fall/winter as long as all goes well


did i need a lift on the tundra? no... did i want it? yes.


i plan on having the taco frame rolling February. my hold up right now is the leafsprings are sitting in my storage unit and i cant work on the frame where i have it sitting right now, once those are on im going to put the rearend together and she'll roll on all 4 waiting for the front diff, engine, trans and fuel tank.

 

I learned a few things tonight...
Wow what a pain in the a$$, the Chinesium steering wheel wrap seems pretty nice, removal of the wheel would have made this much easier, I need to find more thread so I can remove the wheel and redo the whole thing because it fits so/so right now. It could for really nicely I think. It works for now though even if it is a little sloppy.
Oh and it should match nicely with my next big truck purchase in a couply weeks

Is that the oem one or is it aftermarket?

 

Happen to be cleaning carpet, detailng seats, replacing driver seat with junk yard seat while upholsterer fixes my drivers seat leather. I’m showing 4 brackets. Need more pics, just let me know, I’ll be detailing all day in garage while severe wx passes thru.

 

What would you do differently? have the same exact cover I need to put on...

 

I would start at by getting the ends of the spokes perfectly tight and then go from there. I don't know that I'd really even use the booger tape next time. Maybe I would use it on the long section from 10-2. I would also definitely take the wheel off. They have plenty of thread so I'd be less stingy next time.
I need to buy more thread and a steering wheel puller and redo it some time. It still makes the driving experience much nicer even if it is a little sloppy right now.

I picked up a sweet step stool for engine bay work at what not. My dad was a wood worker and made really cool step stools out of old bleacher planks, for family gifts and such. I didn’t want to scratch up the stools he made with rocks in my boots from the driveway, and milk crates start to bow in the heat and are to short sometimes. It has a handle in the seat, which is perfect height for sitting or standing on. It also has a tool cubbie to store as many 10mm sockets as I can find!

 

Those four brackets in yours are precisely what the '04 donor Tundra's floor looked like when I pulled the part, I only ended up using the back two of those brackets to mount the console. The backmost bracket lined up perfectly with the inside of the lid when opened, while the next in line merely supported without having any mounting points to the console. Those other two front brackets didn't fit with my truck (maybe there are holes under my carpet for them, but I didn't want to remove it yet). I did have to use two bolts to synch together the front half of the console with itself. It is sturdy and doesn't wiggle. As I'm sure you're discovering with your disassembly, Toyota tends to over-engineer, so we should be fine. Let me know if those two bolt holes line up with your Sequoia console and reach out if you need anything else!

 

I'm wondering if the Sequoia consoles are exactly the same because it sounds like the holes don't usually line. The donor truck came with 4 brackets but 2 didn't work with my truck. I'd look at maybe finding those Tundra-specific brackets because one needs to come up off the floor to meet the console under its lid to bolt down. As for the vent, I probably should add a piece to deflect both of them out of the console on to the floor. But right now my climate control is stuck on defrost... Another thing to repair.

By the way, since you're replacing the carpet, it might be time for an upgrade. While carpet is comfortable on the feet, it tends to be a sponge for dust, odors, stains, moisture, and insects. Vinyl, on the other hand, is easy to clean, looks sick, is a moisture barrier, will outlast the truck, and can be found in several colors. An Internet search can pull up custom-molded single piece vinyl carpet replacements for $200-$300.

 

I just bought some used Weld Stonecrusher Rims 17x9 for my 2000 Tundra. I think the wheel bore is about 4.1". I am looking for replacement center caps. They look like this, but I cant seem to find the right size. I am also not too confident on the size I need or what to search. Any tips?

 

It comes in waves. Not acceleration or deceleration dependent. I get them from 20-30mph, 40-48mph, 62-75mph.

So far I’ve replaced the center support bearing, the rear u-joint on the rear drive shaft, The ECGS bushing, CV axles are a year old, ball joints and tire rod ends are new. LCA/bushings are new. Steering rack bushings are new. Swaybar bushings are new. New leaf springs.

my pinion angle is correct, and my drive angles are all in spec.

 

Original the truck had the vinyl. I’d rather have the carpet since I dint really use it in conditions where a set of weather techs won’t do good enough. The advantage to the carpet is the sound deadening

 

It looks OEM but it’s actually Westin brand. My dad has a double cab tundra and has the OEM side steps on it and it looks exactly like that one. The OEM Access cab were different and costs about $400 brand new. These were just a little over $200 and to me it looks better than the OEM one for the Access cabs.

Yes. An unbalanced tire will be a vibration at the speed of wheels. My vibration is finer/faster than that, if that makes sense. Plus, I’ve rotated my tires with no change in how the vibration feels or where it’s coming from.

 

You don't need one. I just used a standard crow foot.

 

Cleaned the rare Southern California ice off my windshield and drove to San Diego.

Gonna check out my young cousins new 03 IS300, it's got the manual trans and hes never driven stick before. Could be an interesting day. I'll see if we can get some sound clips of my exhaust while I'm here.

 

I just leave the nut on loose and whack the wheel side to side a few times and they pop right off

 

Finally replaced the rear diff fluid. It had a nice metallic sheen to it and smelled off. I don’t think it had been changed in a long time. I put in the Lucas 80-90. I would like to replace the fill and drain plug since they are slightly rounded, but can’t seem to find the right part number. Anybody know the numbers for these?

 

do those bolt on or weld on?
