For some reason, everyone other than Kenwood thinks 800x480 is an acceptable resolution for a giant tablet in the middle of my dash....

Alpine Halo 11 - giant, low res... at least they used the right demo vehicle for their pics...
    Pioneer NEX 9" & 10" - article doesn't say but appear to be 800x 480 also...
Kenwood - Stays tiny at 6.8" but at least offers WVGA resolution AND they are offering an HD backup camera FWIW...

Anybody seen anything else interesting yet?

I stand corrected. The Pioneer 10" is 720p also. Unless someone comes out with something better before the show ends, I think I'm going this direction. I'm not as adventurous as the crew with the Dasaita's and Tesla's....I'd love to be able to watch YouTubeTV on the head unit but the Android tablet head units just seem a little janky with too many work arounds required...

    https://www.macrumors.com/2020/01/07/alpine-pioneer-10-11-inch-carplay-receivers/

Pioneer is showing off five new CarPlay and Android Auto receivers at CES, including the DMH-WT8600NEX, a 10.1-inch model with a 720p capacitive touchscreen. Like the Alpine receiver above, the display hovers over the dashboard, allowing for it to have a traditional single-DIN chassis with no custom installation needed.

Not sure if it really makes a difference but my Kenwood DDX 9905s has higher resolution and it is a 2018 model.

It looks like Kenwood announced new models with higher resolution today but nothing bigger than 7". I was hoping they would keep their hi res screens but join the larger screen party.

Funny, based on the stock pictures you posted, the Alpine and Pioneer look better, in terms of resolution, than the Kenwood lol

The resolution seems low on the Halo 9. Do you have any complaints with it?

I wouldn't be either. I use Waze and Google Maps. As long as the experience there is optimal, I might give it a try.

I wonder if any of these will support Toyota Connect, apparently this is one of the big hurdles that some of these companies are having for the 2020s.

Hopefully there's something amazing still to be announced. These are very small steps in the right direction.

IDK about you guys but I'm less concerned with expensive than I am with bullet proof. If Kenwood/Alpine/Pioneer want to make a hi-res version of one of these Tesla style Android head units with all of the kinks worked out and a major company warranty behind it, I'd be happy to pay $2k.

That is what I am amazed at, it would have only cost them a few dollars more to use a decent panel!

Made an account just to reply to this.

The problem isn’t necessarily just price of a higher resolution screen but the grade of the screen. These are all quality companies that aren’t going to sell you a product that can withstand the heat and cold that they would be put through.

Look at the problems people are having with early Tesla model screens.

I have a dedicated Kenwood 5 channels amp. The 650 fits the bill for me: price, specs, low profile and has carplay.
