I plan to buy my first Tundra/Toyota in the next 6 months and am doing my research. Glad I found this site! I've found what appears to be 2 very similar trucks from a dealership, but would appreciate your thoughts. The pricing for the limited is coming in at $45,217 on their website and the SR5 at $44,296. The SR5 has the convenience package, SR5 upgrade package, and TRD Off-Road Package. I'm not seeing any major difference between the vehicles other than price. Is the upgrade package and TRD Off-Road package done at the dealership? Is there something I'm overlooking that the membership on this site can clue me in on? Is one inherently better than the other?????

Limited has leather, heated seats, dual climate, better radio I think (even though people say stock radio is bad), maybe some other things that sr5 doesn’t come with. Check the spec comparison on Toyota’s website.

That dealer might just not be listing everything. Especially if the intern put it on the website.

I have not gone to the dealership and compared them yet. They are in southwest missouri and I live in the saint louis area. I'm thinking it's gonna be worth the drive as the local dealerships are around 2k more.

I have no plans to do any suspension work or run anything other than oem-type tires. I know the wife would like the dual climate control and the heated seats are a nice perk, too. Both come with 38 gallon tank, skid plates, decals, spray in bed liner, etc. It looks like the interior is the key. Thanks!

    I would pick the limited.
Yeah, it appears that can be an option on the limited but not on the SR5.
Also the passenger side front window may have the one touch option.

All told though it sounds like the trucks would be very similar otherwise.

I own a Limited and a SR5. There are a lot of little things on the Limited that the SR5 doesn’t have. One touch down and up windows on the limited vs just one touch down driver side only on the SR5. The limited has a power passenger side seat. The dual climate control is really nice to have - I hate adjusting the temp all the time on the SR5. The radio is noticeably better. I also have the Sunroof which is nice. You might want to check the headlights too - the Limited gets the LEDs. Some of the SR5s have the LED headlights but not all. For what you’re spending, I’d definitely read the sticker from each one and compare every option.

Also, I’d be surprised if a local dealer wasn’t willing to price match whatever offer you get elsewhere. With the new model coming out soon and this one being as long in the tooth as it is, there are great deals to be had.

Some limited models have color matched rear bumper caps. Don't forget the simulated wood trim look on the Dash panels.

Test drive them but I'd get the limited if they're that close. The off road package is a joke and the limited interior is beautiful

I've had my share of sunroofs in other vehicles. One might even say that I'm over it... I do not want another sunroof and am willing to do without the other things to get what I want ... A truck without a sunroof and a marketplace where everything else is able to be manufactured / crafted into the custom truck that we all strive to achieve /own.
Dual climate control .. I've owned a car - 13 years old .. A 2006 Infiniti M35 . In 13 years there's not been more than 5 times that I wanted different temperature settings than my wife and vice versa. Sunroof randomly get "locked open - not wanting to close - then it starts raining - literally. Yeah - done with sunroof - do not need /want another.

Exactly, I had a 2018 Tacoma and had leather, sunroof power rear window and dual climate. Barely used any of it. I used the sunroof maybe twice a year and most of the time the dual climate was synced. Power rear window never got used. When I got my new 2020 Tundra SR5 SX it had only the stuff I wanted and I saved a ton of cash. If I decide I want leather back I'll buy a kit and install.

Ya... it’s not so much the dual climate control that I like... it’s the automatic temperature setting. Set it at 72 and never touch it again... winter or summer. Heated seats are nice too!

Get a limited. On an SR5, in order to get the LED headlights, which is a must, you have to get the TRD Offroad package. Which is like $3k. The TRD OR package is only like $100 on a Limited. Then in order to get the 38 gallon tank, which is also a must, you have to get the SR5 upgrade package. Another $1k or so. Once you add those 2 packages, you’re pretty close to the price of a Limited. If you want to save a few bucks, you can just not get the TRD Offroad package and upgrade to LED headlights, and get some Katzkin leather seats, but you’ll still be missing out on all the little things like heated, power seats, dual auto climate, power sliding rear window on a DC, and color matched rear bumper. I’ve had both and the Limited is a better deal.

To the people who had both / multiple versions of a tundra or taco...why'd you have multiple versions? Different jobs / tasks that you wanted to accomplish with each vehicle? Example: a street truck for one & another for the dirt roads?

I own my 2017 Limited outright... has a bit under 40,000 miles on it. I grabbed my 2019 SR5 because the lease price was too good to pass up... less than $300 all in for 24 months / 24K miles... and I’m doing a project that is going to require me to drag a lot of materials and tools around for the next 18 months or so. I have a decent sized enclosed trailer that weighs about 6500# that’s attached to the leased truck pretty much all the time as well. So, I’ll beat the snot out of the lease for the next two years and leave my Limited pristine and keep the miles off it as well... especially the winter miles getting eaten up by salt.

    Good advice so far ...

Given that there is almost no difference on the price, the real question is, "How can you justify not getting the Limited?":monocle:

Getting a limited is no brainer especially if they are both priced similarly .Much better resale value later

I got my sr5 SX new for 33,500. That’s how I justified not getting a limited. Plus this truck looks better with the platinum grill and “no chrome”. In my opinion

I have a 2016 SR5 with the TSS upgrade and I love it. I have the 38 gal tank and all the options I need. So that’d be my pick.

I appreciate everyone offering their thoughts on this. The sun roof is NOT an option I want, as I'm 6'8" and they reduce the amount of head space. My mom is 90 and is all about running boards, though. I"m liking the predator steps.

So, one of my draws to the Tundra and Toyota in general is reliability. Curious as to how many of you are 'just change the oil' guys and how many of you are 'religious to the service schedule on any and all fluids' kinda guys. I sold my boat, so I won't be doing any appreciable towing for awhile. Would love to hear from guys from both spectrums. I was pretty religious about the Mega Cab fluids. Did not like having to change 16 spark plugs every 30k. If enough guys tell me to change the oil at recommended interval with full synthetic and skip the brake fluid flush, front and rear diff., etc., I'll probably give it serious thought, or at least up the intervals. I don't do any of my own service. Happy New Year!!!

SR5 with TRD offroad now has push button start, dual zone climate control, LED headlights. I went SR5 because the Limited with sunroof didn't give me enough headroom. But I'm 6'5".

I know it’s possible. But I’ve looked online and couldn’t find one. And dealer said it was possible but difficult in my area (Southeast Toyota)

It may not seem like a big deal, but when last I was in the market the only way to get parking sensors was in a limited. These trucks are huge, and the parking sensors really help. Concur with the previous comments re: 38 gallon tank and navigation. If the price difference is negligible, I’d say go limited

How come every truck I've seen with parking sensors usually has a dent right on the sensor? o_O

LOL my mom is 90 and all of 4'11" tall and loved the predator steps. As long as you don't do off-roading, they are fine. I now have Go Rhino RB20 running boards on my 4x4, don't ask me why .
I have always gone with SR5 or the base model car with auto/air before. This time, as I looked at what I wanted (18" rims, LED headlights, climate control, GPS), yea stepping out of my 'base model' mantra a bit, I realized the SR5 wasn't the best deal for me. TRD-OR isn't a bad deal on the Limited, and got me the 18" rims. Upgrading the SR5 for the rest at that point was pointless. And yes you can get Limited without moon roof, there was one there when I bought mine, but I had a 'what the heck' moment and got the one with it. Never had one before in over 40 years driving. My last Tundra was an SR5 with very little extra; basically 4x4, cloth, auto/air/power windows/tow pkg/LSD. Oh yea, and it had a steering wheel. After 17 years with it, I wanted to be able to play music from a memory stick instead of a cassette tape. And I love the moon roof and power rear window, they work together to make the miles fly when on a long trip. Limited hits the sweet spot unless you are only looking for 4 doors and a gas pedal.

I did all the regular maintenance on my 2002, only used synthetic oil, did the timing belt when required, brought it in for all the TSBs (Toyota Service Bulletins). It had many more years left on it when I sold it, I was just ready to treat myself to something new. I miss it now actually. Super reliable it was.

Because some bozo backs into you in the parking lot  and scratches up the driver side plastic part of the bumper, and dents in the chrome at the front while he's at it. Then he leaves without leaving any information, and you don't notice for how long because, how often do you walk around the truck and look at it all?? Sigh. I might have to get those color match caps for the front to cover at least the metal part of the bumper...

Yeah well how about this. I parked my brand new 2020 at Hobor Frieght and I'm super anal where I park. Found the perfect spot away from all the other vehicles. I'm in HF for about 15min and come out to find a 2 inch gash down to metal on the driver's door. Looked around for the ass hat but they left when they knew what they had done. Good thing, I was some kind of mad. :censored::mad:
Was able to get it repaired and it's not noticable.
