Strange water leak...

I seem to be leaking water from this "weep nipple" behind the engine on the cab wall on my 2002 Tundra, V8. Any ideas of where it is coming from? I have attached a picture.

AC condensate drain? If it's the condensate drain, you want it to keep dripping. If it stops dripping, the HVAC box eventually overflows to the cabin soaking your carpet and stinking.

 

It's AC condensation. That's where it's designed to drip. Mine leaves a small lake under the truck in the summer.

 

A/C drip spout there. Its suppose to drip out there.

Your A/C interior coil is directly behind that firewall. It catches moisture from the air and it drips into a collection tub which runs out the spout you pictured.

Thanks, guys, I did suspect it was condensation but the fact it is winter now made me doubt my first thought. I knew it was not any kind of fluid associated with the truck. Yes, that is a transmission fluid dipstick....

 

The AC is on any time the climate control is turned to defrost or defrost floor mix. It removes moisture from the air (hence, the drip spout) There is a thread here about disabling this feature if you want as some of us have done.

 

yea, a/c drain, defrost on, a/c is on. normal. good little mod to do is extend that hose to avoid it dripping on the frame.. goes a long way to stop rust there

 

Is there a write up and / or do you happen to know the hose size?

 

Hows this? Personally, its a waste on time mod IMO. Just grease the frame below the drip line and save your time/money.

 

And your point is? Hell, without waste-of-time mods, how would we spend our time and money? There would never be red-painted door handles, if everyone followed that philosophy. Guess I'll have to get off my computer chair and walk 20 steps to the garage and measure it myself. Might need a nap after that.

 

eh the grease works for a while. but i work on rusty trucks all the time. any time i can fight it happening that requires no maintenance, im happy (it also makes it easier to clear out if it gets clogged, which it does. now you just remove the hose and blow it out instead of getting an air gun up there to blow air into the truck

 

I usually just massage the nipple on occasion.

 

Soon to be black door handles! Maybe blue once I get to be an old dog like some others?

My point is: Mines been dripping in that spot since 2002 with no rust. Don’t let me get in your way with my opinion. Its your truck.

I even held back a little bit about it keeping the juices flowing.

Seriously, whats your mod advice on this one? Not sure it effects our trucks, but I’ve read this mod helps with stopping the wind from creating a damming effect blowing the water back at high speeds.

 

I'm going to do it to mine when i remember to get a nipple to extend it. i did it on my tacoma. As for noise it should technically help a little? but in all reality it likely wont make a huge difference in that regard. but i can say for sure almost all the trucks with rotted frames coming in are rotted REALLY bad on the top frame rail right below the drain. you've got water dripping onto the frame and a weld there. to top it off you've got the hot exhaust nearby. its not a good combo for anti rust measures

 

Must be a northern thing. Where you get these nipple extenders?

 

napa sells them.. you just needa barbed fitting that fits the hose. i forget what size. i think 3/8 or 5/16

 

The other option is replace the short hose with a longer one from the inside out. I don’t think the things hard to get to in the truck. But I don’t remember

 

I’ve also noticed it ends up dripping right onto the sway bar mount, and looks like that bracket holds water pretty well. I might look into the ol nip slip extendo mod
