Best Gen-ECGS bushing tool

If you plan on doing the East Coast bushing upgrade; I’m will to send my removal/installation tool out to you to use.
All I ask is that it is taken care of and used the way it was designed to be used. It has been modified slightly, to easily slip past the needle bearing for removal. When you return the tool, you must include something local to you; a cool sticker, beer, or beer(unless your from Milwaukee, I don’t want any milky beast!) or anything you feel like sharing.
Only request the tool when your actually going to use it, not for an upcoming project in the months to come(incase someone else needs it sooner)

Anyone want to do a quick description of why you want an ECGS bushing and or how you know if you need one?

 

The needle bearing on the driver's side half shaft prematurely wears out on lifted trucks. If you feel a vibration that goes away when in 4wd, it needs replacing with this bushing that will not prematurely wear out.

 

I honestly don't see how it could do anything but help. I just didn't like having to modify your tool. The side with the removed material really is too far by design. I guess they figure the end user can grind it if they need to.

As the post above says and... I guess this is common if you lift even though my CV angles are pretty close to stock and mine went out. I suppose the fact that my suspension droops out to just before cv bind doesn't help.

The why is also emphasized by this...

 

Thanks. I recently had a bad drivers side front diff leak. When I replaced the seal I de-leveled the truck, and replaced the CV since I had a new laying around anyway and I was trying to solve a vibration issue in 4hi.(turned out if was a rear U joint) I noticed that bearing and was wondering if it was hard etc to replace if it needed it.

Hey French Toasty! I have recently discovered a leaking front axle seal, and I'm planning on doing the ECGS bushing while I have everything opened up. Is the tool still available?

Got my ECGS bushing installed today along with the new axle seal. I bought a piece of pvc to pound in the axle seal, I’ll send that along in case the next guy is doing the seal as well.

Here’s the bolt they welded onto my front diff drain plug. Worked like a champ

 

Well shit, drove the truck today and noticed it’s leaking from in between the CV axle and the diff. Any ideas? Did I not pound the new seal in far enough?

 

Somebody help @Whothefat! Unless you figured it out. Then all is well.

 

I ordered another axle seal and I’m going to install when it arrives. Going to knock out the left wheel bearing when it’s apart again.

when you guys installed the ECGS bushing did you pound it in until it’s flush with the lip of the diff? Mine was sticking out maybe 1/8 inch and it felt pretty seated in there.

 

Yeah mine was sitting out maybe 1/16-1/8 of an inch

 

I must have screwed up the seal somehow. Now I’m debating if I should replace the CV axles or at least reboot while I have it apart too...

 

Is there a special service tool for this seal installation?

I know there is one for the wheel bearing seals. Keeps the tool flush all over the entirety of the seal for better pounding.

 

I used a 2 inch pvc cap that fit the outer ring of the seal pretty nicely. I’m just not sure if I pressed it in too far, not far enough or not perfectly straight.

 

We need some better instruction on this entire job process. Seems like a high fail rate type job.
