Color matched or black

Anyone else think the black door handles and side mirror caps look better than color matched? I'm debating between the 2 for my 2020 platinum. And i don't wanna regret the door handles because they're really expensive on the 2020 with the smart entry. I just kinda like the look of the black and how it breaks up the side a little. Already have the black tundra insert and black plastidipped the 4x4 and platinum badges.

 

Personal preference but I love the color matched look.

 

On MGM, color matched for the win.

 

I have the color matched mirror caps and put them on but didn't love them while still having the chrome handles so i took them off for now until i decide on door handles.

 

I have chrome now. Trying to decide between black and mgm. The 2020 handles are different anyways as they have the smart entry.

 

I've got the color matched mirrors and black handles due to the smart entry. I love the setup as it is. I would never give up the color matched mirrors and the black handles give it a nice break up.

 

Yeah I'm kinda leaning this way. Just gotta work up the courage to spend that kinda money on door handles haha. Once i get the handles the only thing i have to replace are the running boards. I hate the look of the brushed metal ones. Wanna get some black steps similar to the predator running boards.

 

I personally like the color matched mirror covers and black handles but I couldn't justify spending $400+ for handles so I removed and Plastidiped my chrome inserts. I'm not a huge fan of plastidip but it's a nice temporary solution (couple years?) until I can afford/justify buying paint matched or black door handles.

 

Mine is white and I think the black looks better on mine. But yours hmm not sure.

 

I actually like that a lot haha. Did you have to remove the interior door panels for the front doors to get the chrome pieces off? I heard you have to do that with the smart entry handles.

 

When we bought, I didn't even take notice. It came with black. I prefer it to color matched to break it up a bit.

 

Thanks. I was pretty happy with the way they turned out.
Fortunately, I did not have to remove the door panel to do this. I removed all of the peices that I could for easy clean up but left only the parts that had wires.
There is VHB tape and one small clip holding the chrome inserts to the so I used some trim pry tools to remove the chrome pieces, used goof off to clean the majority of the tape residue, then did a final clean with alcohol wipes. 3 of the 4 clips broke when removing the piece so I just broke the fourth piece intentionally.

It depends on the color of the truck. I don’t care for color matched on white so I bought black plastic handles and mirror covers for mine.

 

I vote for both Black & Color-Matched! lol.

I agree. I think it depends on the truck color. I like the way your set up looks on your truck.

 

Since the choice is between black or color-matched on an MGM, I would opt for color-matched. The difference is subtle, but in this case I believe the black looks more generic. (Though I agree with the comments above about black handles on a white truck).

However, with that said I actually really like the look of the Platinums as they are (I also have an MGM, but it is an SR5 because I needed the 6-passenger bench). I replaced my black door handles and mirror cap with chrome, because I think it is an upgraded look. If I could justify the cost of a new grill and front bumper I would absolutely replace them with color-matched versions to look more like a Platinum.

what do you think about MGM though?

 

I'd go with color coded [MGM] on that one, but I don't think black would look bad either. I just think the black handles and mirror caps look best on LIGHT colored rigs [great contrast].

However, there are still exceptions: chrome doesn't bother me at all [mirror caps, door handles, bumpers, grill] on Silver Sky.

Don't have a good picture up close, but I took my whole mirrors off and had the whole mirror color matched. looks much better than just having the caps matched. I had my whole front end color matched, I took all the parts off myself and took them to my body man and he painted everything for $350, that was me buying the paint too. ($50 for a quart)

 

I recently switched out my chrome mirror caps for the MGM color matched ones. Love it, don’t like the chrome. MGM Crue!!! MGM for the win.

 

Truth right there.
The contrast of black on most colors is too severe. On MGM, it's just right to my eye...a proper accent to MGM. When I get some "crazy cash" for another Tundra "present", I'll be adding those "Piano black" Tundra tailgate letter inserts. If I ever color match anything it'll be those stupid chrome bumper ends.

Honestly the lack of chrome on the platinum was a big selling point for me haha. really just have to replace mirror caps, door handles and plastidip the badges and you're done on the exterior. I think I've made a decision. Gonna go with MGM mirror caps, which I already have and MGM handles.

 

Now I just gotta get rid of those ugly ass brushed stainless steel running boards that came with the truck. I really wanted them to swap them out at the dealer, but they wouldn't do it. Pricks. I'm gonna get something similar to the predator steps. Would prefer something stainless steel in black.
