Those people have some serious money. I could not imagine how much that all cost but between that and the garage I'd assume over a million easy. It really looks like a commercial construction site, the fact that it's a private space blows my mind.
Oh and you said erect :anonymous:hahahha I'm a 13 year old in a 37 year old body.

I’ve been very blessed to have the clients I’ve come to know over the years. I don’t say much about who they are or what they do because I respect their privacy. The cost of the project is up there but it will also serve multiple needs for the clients.

O yeah....Erection is an exciting part of Metal structures. Lol Theres a lot of funny lingo for buildings: wood, nailed-it, valleys, studs and many more funny terms. Haha

Oh man I loved working construction back in the day. I always liked calling a tape measure a slip stick and a lot of people had no clue.
I was just a laborer but the lingo, the guys singing made up songs, making fun of the sheetrockers, using French terms and mixing up the order of words, lol, oh man it was a great bunch of guys and very funny too.

True! It’s a actually an equine facility. The barn is just one of five different structures on the property.

I’ve always enjoyed everything about construction! I started working in the industry when I was 15 years old. It can be hard work but very rewarding. I really enjoy the pre-planning and thinking of new things to do.

Not construction, but shipbuilding. Assembling large metal pieces is also called erection.
For a few years I was an erection set supervisor. And yes, it was always a double entendre when assembling 900 ton sections of an aircraft carrier.

@1UPPER I have been following your projects and I wanted to say that I am very impressed with your quality of work and attention to detail.

Several years ago before I got into the solar industry, I worked for a high end roofer who specializes in copper and slate roofing. We worked on some of the nicest estates and new construction projects in Western MA, upstate NY, and northwestern CT working for some of the best builders in the tristate area.

Your build quality reminds me of some of the best projects we worked on. Thank you for sharing your work with us and keep at it. You are one of the best in the trade.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Sir!

Couple months old, but just going through this thread and saw this. Is that a Samsung fridge? Looks exactly like mine did last year. Had to do the same thing and thaw it out. Also had water leaking out on the top of the drawer below the doors. At the bottom there is a little piece of flat metal that hooks onto heating coil and hangs down into weep hole to keep it thawed out. You can either get a longer piece of copper and stick it further in the hole to keep it open or you can buy a larger piece off of Amazon that will keep it from freezing up in the future. Once that hole freezes closed, the ice starts building up in the coils and it doesn't melt in the defrost cycle.

Yeah, it's a Samsung. I haven't had any leakage into the drawer yet. Great tip about the weep hole. I'll give it a shot! Any chance you have a link to the piece on Amazon?

It's just a longer version of what is already there and it goes down into the weep hole further. Just crimp it around the coil.

Today will be day 3 of my manual labor effort to clear the overgrowth & vines away from the metal building shop on my mom's property. All I am using is a pair of lopping shears, a cheap bow saw and a pull saw to cut limbs & vines... so may fucking vines, mostly Wisteria. The power company will arrive Thursday, and they plan to clear 20 year old trees away from the service line to the building, but I have a better idea... The Tree removal company will follow later on, they will remove the monster pine trees and one big water oak that are right next to the structure.

Does anyone have experience using corrugated galvanized sheets in an interior application? I’m looking for tips for cutting, mounting, framing corners, etc. I’ll be doing this solo, but am pretty handy and don’t give up easily.

The project: I have a huge island that is half of a galley kitchen. Cabinets are currently honey oak (/cringe) which will be painted as part of the project. The non-cabinet back and side of the island are what I’m looking to use the corrugated aluminum on. Dimensions on the island faces are 112”x35” and 24”x35”.

I have some time on this due to other projects that need to happen first, but am starting to plan this out.

Photo of sides of island currently (/cringe) and another photo of what I’m going for is attached. Thanks for any help y’all can offer.

Finished off a couple DIY, Ikea parts, CPU desks.

As much as I loathe Ikea furniture, it was a one stop option and it's apparently what a lot of steamers and gamers use for their desks. A couple file cabinets, some risers, a butcher block style (solid wood top at least) and some RGB lighting and the kiddos are good to go. One of the kids watches some guy on YT called "Setup Wars" and pulled the idea from there.

I was going to do one long 12' desk, but this allows them each to take ownership and customize their desk.

Still have to do some cable management and then clean the shelves behind them

Look into getting yourself a metal nibbler tool. It will make cutting the metal a lot easier, cleaner and quicker!

I would get some 1x4 or 1x6 poplar trim boards and paint them the same as you are doing your cabinets, or a very contrasting color. Use that as a picture frame like trim.
For the metal I think I'd cut it to length, maybe a little short cuz itll get covered with the picture frame. Screw the metal in on top and bottom and cover the top and bottom with your freshly made trim boards, the bottom will double as your baseboard. I would miter corners for a clean look, make sure you dry fit to check miter angles since nothing is ever square.
Now that was an idea assuming that you have enough counter overhang to account for the thickness of the metal plus 3/4" for the trim. That may not be doable.

If you don't have enough overhang then install your picture frame first, you may need to build it out or make some spacers so the trim will sit slightly proud of the metal if that makes sense. Then you'll have to cut your metal sheets to the exact size of the picture frame opening and get some decorative screws if that matters to you.

Thanks for this! Yes, there’s plenty of overhang for 1” framing without it getting in the way. And if this and other projects go well, I may have some room in the budget to redo the countertop.

I’m thinking if I use 8’ sheets with the ribs running horizontally, that will be fewer cuts and fewer seams and will make the top and bottom/baseboard trim parts of the frame easier to accomplish vs having to deal with ‘the wave’ for the full length of the frame, if that makes sense? I would only need the spacers on the corners for it to sit “proud” and could use 2x on the top and bottom to get closer to flush.

I appreciate the help in game-planning this. And I’m glad that most folks aren’t thinking I’m nuts for taking this on.

A lot of what you do and can do will depend on how thick the ribs of the metal are. You don't wanna have the waves extending out further than the trim. With 1 inch of overhang you'll have to attach cut the metal to size to fit between the picture frame

Good eye. I've been a Cake fan for a long time.

I missed out on most of the original pressings from their early days, but got in on a couple colored pressings when they released them. I framed this one, as it was a band website pre-order, so the first so many were signed. Then I picked up the first pressings of the box set, which was a fiasco for many ordering and then they released some more.

    IMG_20200101_151601.jpg IMG_20200101_151617.jpg

My wife kind of lets me do what I want in the recroom as far as wall art goes...so it's mostly concert posters and frames vinyl and a couple screen prints from artists I like.

If you or anyone can recognize the screen print in this photo, I'll be flabbergasted. It's not band related, but she has ties to a well know geek rock band.

I replaced the door going to our back yard and added a new storm door. Not a fan of hanging doors but we got it knocked out.
