What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

which springs did you go with?

 

I went super duper budget on my first projector try. They had good reviews and it all seems pretty straight forward.

I did screw up on ordering the bulbs though. I ordered h4 (factory tundra style)for some reason instead of h1 (the bulb needed for the projector). It should all work out since I just ordered h1 bulbs and they have the same generic connections that most hid bulbs have. There is a separate hi/low beam switch with the projectors. The bulb is on or off and the shutter just flaps up or down.

Oh I will. I was actually pretty happy with the led replacements in the factory housings, but they did some strange stuff in the new housings I got. I finally just got tired of not being able to adjust my passenger side housing.

Arb ome 885 springs. With black energy suspension isolators and kyb mounts.
Bottom setting on the 5100s. Should be level with the rear and drive very well

 

I have similar in the garage. 5100/885/new OEM mounts and isolators/Icon AAL/diff drop

 

If your going to run the 885s on the tundra suspension the factory rubber isolators won’t Fit.

 

good to know, have a source or part number for the energy suspension isolators?

 

I’ll get a pic of the box it’s in when I get home. Has the part number. There’s a red and a black, get the black since it has graphite in it. Less chance of squeaks

I went with the red (no particular reason)...thinking back should have gone black as I'm not a fan of the yellow OME and now red isolator...looking like ketchup and mustard......

Probably should have. I mean if you're going tacky might as well go all the way!

I’ve been considering this since I got my tundra but I think you sold me. Did the projector right right in or did you have to cut the housing to make it fit?

Super broke this holiday didn't do much but an oil change and front pads.

 

Anyone have tips for applying this? I'm starting with the doors. I've heard covering every square inch isn't necessary but obviously the more you cover the better it works.

 

4x4” squares with decent coverage is technically The best you can do. I ran strips in the door for 70ish percent coverage. Sounds good to me

 

Fit right in. I just had to remove the little reflector thingy and bolt it on. Then I had to level it on the truck.

 

I used a little paint roller with a used and crusty roller still on it.

 

Well, I got schooled by a MIT graduate that ‘strategic coverage’ is ‘stupid’ after recommending it and 4,798 turd gen’rs liked his comment and/or agreed with him. They know better and there are tons of these threads over in their section. Most likely everyone will say cover every square inch plus.

If you put a small square on a cymbal, it dampens it pretty well when struck (about the same damping as 100% full coverage). I’d say use it strategically around speakers and backs of door panels to keep them from vibration. Tape up any holes in your OEM plastic on doors, etc. Put some inside on your backside door metal as well. Basically, build multiple small 3D dampeners with this stuff on all panels layers using it minimally so that all surfaces are dampened and sounds can’t echo off each others surface inside your doors.

 

I think I did two 6"x12" pieces on the inside of each front door and maybe two 6x6 pieces on the inside of the rear doors. It seemed to help quite a bit actually. The bubble insulation on the back of the cab helped too. Now if I could easily get to the interior side of the AC intake under the windshield to quite up my cowl intake.

 

Alright, that settles it.....


Got everything ordered on Amazon. Most of it will be here tomorrow and one piece on Tuesday. I’m going a little different direction and I’ll be adding a halo to each projector. As it sits, it’s hard for me to see when my truck is remote started due to only the park lights running when it’s on. Hopefully, if it works out, I can use the OEM daytime running light circuit to power the halos. If not, I’ll tap them into the park lights.

 

Sounds killer. I almost did demon eyes, but decided to go plain Jane on my first attempt. What projector and hid kit did you go with?

 

I did multiple pieces in the 2”x4” range on the doors various layers. Added some foam packing blocking in some spots as well.

I went in through my drivers instrument panel bezel opening to add butyl rubber when doing the bulbs. IIRC, I was able to go in the glove box opening after removal to do that portion of the dash. I like your silver bubble wrap idea and may do that on the head liner if I ever come across some more free shtuff.

even in an already quiet car the damn difference was amazing

 

I was thinking the headliner was my next point of attack also. That bubble stuff is cheap enough that I wouldn't mind trying it. I think I did the back of the cab for less than $10.

 

I already have the HID kit and it’s either an Xtreme Vision or Kensun brand with 6k bulbs. Both brands are on Amazon prime and I’ve had good luck with both of them in the past with little to no issues. I’m pretty sure the Tundra has an Xtreme Vision and my Duramax has the Kensun. I always order which ever will show up fastest at the time lol.

I also ordered this kit as well just in case the halos didn’t fit the Ni-Light kit. This kit has everything, including the halos.

 

Do good butyl up on the roof and then lay foam. Kills a lot of noise, foam behind the a Pilars help with wind noise too
