I think depending on color, $3k would be worth it.

Bring everyone down to the dealership with the car seat and see if the double cab would work.

That is probably he answer. If you are going to change everything anyway, then there is no need to pay for the upgrades that will be thrown away - it depends on what upgrades you are planning.

I got the Sport because of the color matched grill and bumpers. I knew I was going to change that if I had chrome, so that alone paid for the upgrade. Also keep in mind that the TRD comes with the larger fuel tank and LED lights that the base SR5 doesn't come with. By the time you add that through the SR5 upgrade package you are almost back to the Sport price.

The sport is a sweet looking truck right out of the box. I did not have to add much to it.

We were all down there but never tried the double cab (my fault). We will try the double cab but from the looks of it, it'll still be a little too tight. But you never know till you try. Thank you.

Nice truck! I'm looking at a white one as well. They look clean! Makes sense. I'd change the chrome for sure on the SR5. Is 40k with my trade in of 6k positive equity and 2500 rebate a good price for the TRD Sport?

    It sounds about right.
Mine had a sticker of $49k (it included some other options such as spray-in bedliner, bed rails, tinted windows, paint protectors etc...
I negotiated down to about $45k, and had $9k trade in for $36k total. After taxes, tag, title, it was back up to about $38k, and I told them I only wanted to finance $35. I ended up splitting the difference with them by putting another $1k down and they dropped $1k and gave me another $1k for my trade to get to the $35. You might have a little more room for negotiation. Make sure you negotiate "out the door" price, otherwise they get you with all kinds of other fees and taxes added to what you thought was your final price. "Out the door" includes everything and they can't add anything else. That way you know exactly what your payment will be.

I went with the SR5 because it has all the options I want and need for less money. I thought about going SX (it's available in CM in Canada) but I didn't think no chrome on a colour I didn't like was worth $370.

In Canada, the Sport package adds
    • Sport Tuned Shock Absorbers
    • Dual Zone Automatic Climate Control
    • Smart Key w/Push Button Start
    • Power slide / tilt Moonroof
    • Service Connect (10 year subscription)
    • Remote Connect (1 year subscription)
    • 20" Alloy Wheels
    • 275/55R20
    • Intelligent Clearance Sonar
    • LED Headlamps & Fog Lamps
    • TRD Front and Rear Sway Bars
    • Hood Scoop
    • Connected Services by Toyota Audio Plus with Remote
    • Privacy Glass
Except that the base SR5 already has privacy glass. You can add sway bars yourself after the fact. I do like sunroofs but it's a potential leak point and useless here 6 months of the year. The sonar would be nice for parking such a big vehicle but not required. Hood scoop does look nice but the 3rd gens look ok without it. Everything else in the package I either don't care about or didn't want.

A couple caveats: all Tundras in Canada that are SR5 or higher have the tow package with the big gas tank and the TRD Sport is $5k more than the base SR5 (vs the $3k you quoted).

I went with the Sport for two reasons only.

    1. Paint matched everything
    2. LED Headlights and fog's

Those two things were deal breakers for me. I ended up waiting until my dealership got in the color i wanted with those options (MGM). Everything else that comes with the Sport package was just a bonus to me but not a necesity. I wasn't planning on modding the truck any (I leased it until the 2021 gets released) so that extra 3k for the sport package was worth it to me. I came from a Tacoma so it's definitely a major upgrade!

Either way, you will love whatever Tundra you go with. Good luck!

Car seat or booster seat? My daughter is in a booster seat and has no issues with enough room. My son, on the ither hand, is in a forward facing car seat. I usually keep him behind the passanger seat because I usually dont have a passanger up front and I can slide the seat all of the way forward. This is mostly to keep him from kicking the back of the seat. When my wife rides with me and slides the seat back there is still plenty of room for him to get in and out, he just kicks the seat more!
I would recommend the Sport package also, painted everything and the rear sway bar are amazing... And like others have mentioned the led fog lights are nice looking as well. I could do with or without the hood scoop!

Yes this truck also has bed liner. If I may ask what did you trade in?

it really depends whats important to you. i looked for a sport but couldn't tell if they came with leather. the chrome delete will cost about $1500 so if that's all you care about on the sprt idk if its worth it.

It's a car seat. It's also winter almost 6 months out of the year here so we carry and pack extra stuff (just in case) bags etc. But we'll definitely try the double cab

That seems like a reasonable price to me. My 2019 Sport was listed for 46k. I traded in my 2010 f150, got 8k for it, and ended up paying 39K out the door.

It really is but I guess if you factor in what else you get with the sport (sway bar, safety sense, keyless remote start etc.) I guess it's worth it.

Sounds good. I still believe I can get more than 6k for my trade in. 2017 tacoma off road.

I traded in my 2017 Tacoma as well and main reason being more room for the kids. With that being said, I wouldn't waste too much time looking at Double cabs

So i wanted to look a little bit more before i responded. Remote start is definitely a package. whether it be the sport package or the off road package. safety sense is across the board. i vote sport if those are things you want. i will say this, it was 21 degrees this morning when i left for work so the remote start definitely is nice.

Remote start is a life saver. It gets well below zero here sometimes. I guess that in itself is worth it lol

@808Kaap , I traded a 2002 Tacoma. I bought it new for $20k and 16 years later still got $10,000 for my trade.

You paid it off though? I have about 21000 left to pay on my 2017 tacoma and they valued it at 28000 so they gave me 6k positive equity.

Yes, I had it since new, so it was paid off a long time ago.
You can always negotiate it a little more like I did. When we came to the end and we were a few thousand away from where I wanted to be, I asked for an extra $1k and ended up getting it. Maybe ask them for the out-the-door price and whatever they come up with, just tell them what you had in mind was a thousand less than that...ask if they can make the trade 29,000 so you get the extra 1,000 trade-in equity, or split it 500 on the trade and 500 off the Sport. Make it look like you give them the option to decide how they want to do it. They can play the numbers to whatever works best for them, as long as it works for you.

It helped that I had a quote from another dealer on a TRD OffRoad and a $10,000 trade that I could use as leverage.

I want to be in the 30s at least, we are already at 40,9xx. I have another quote from another dealer down in denver and they quoted me 43k with my trade so no thanks to that one lol

Also what's the problem with chrome? Paying an extra 3k just to not have chrome? I like how easily it cleans up and doesn't scratch when I'm scrubbing bugs off the front

I just dont like the look of it. I wouldnt be paying an extra 3k just because of the chrome I'd pay the extra for the more features. I guess my question is... is the extra features worth the extra 3k
