Same here. I have a 3" leveling and still do not see the need for a handle. But In am glad the option is there for those who need it.

Wow, why do you guys add that handle? Toyota got rid of the handle in 14’ to clean up the pillar and take away a potential obstruction of vision. Not to mention you don’t need it when the steering wheel provides better leverage and support for getting in and out

Using the steering wheel to support your weight isn't a great idea. I have no obstruction, nor do the current Sequioa owners who have the handle. It seems like a way to save money on labor/parts more than anything.

I use the steering wheel also. Barely put any pressure on it because I step on my step rail.

After all these discussions above I had to go out to the truck to see how I get in because I don't even pay attention to it.
I just step right into it and don't hold onto anything. My left hand is on the inside door handle - not leaning on it but just stabilizing myself until I sit and then I pull the door close. I don't see the need for the handle. I actually got into the passenger side where I have a handle and found it kind of awkward to try and use it.
    But to each their own.
    Good to have options.

Ok I’m a master tech for Toyota so I think I would know how not to mess up a steering system, you talk as if I’m a Paraplegic Doing a pull-up off the steering wheel lmao

Typically I don’t have much room to open my door in the tightness spaces I have to park including my garage so I have to grab the steering wheel for balance but I put my 240lbs on the step and not the steering column lol

I'm not trying to get into a pissing contest with you. I've had the displeasure of taking down the steering column on my F150 to loctite screws that come loose from pulling on the wheel to get in. Putting the pillar handle in is so much easier. Why do the Sequoia's still have them though?

Got one relatively cheap from Megazip, keep forgetting to use it BUT my OCD at the one-sided handle is gone lol. Still doing the 2-step bum in hop, I hold the wheel for balance rather than leverage.

Omg lol your not comparing a tundra to a ford ?! This is toyota which is far better ... that’s a no brainer, the rest of the interior is the same as a 2013 tundra

You're wound a little tight today. Downing Ford doesn't disprove that pulling on the steering wheel is not the best for it. Neither is quoting other people who pull on it, because they don't have a handle. I don't understand why the Sequoia still has it 5 years later if it was a genuine obstruction issue, or how keeping the rest of the interior the same is a plus on 14 and up Tundras.

Funny that you mention this. I went out to make sure I was using the steering wheel. Turns out same as you I don't use anything other than the step

Just ordered mine from Sparks. The '17 versions were a different item number and were on sale, $145.51 shipped. Looking forward to installing this since I've caught myself using my steering wheel to get in and out, not a good practice since I did this with my last ride ('08 Nissan Frontier) and ended up having to replace the clock spring due to the pressure it put on the cables.

I got mine on Monday from Sparks. I didn’t like the little bolt and u-nut they supplied. No hardness markings on the bolt head. I am not like the average Joe. I have a bit to weight to pull up there. I had a 5/16 Grade 8 bolt in my junk buckets and went to Lowes and found a u-nut that was smaller than what was provided (shorter) and it does not even come close to the air bag. Took more time to go get another u-nut than to install the grab bar. Momma likes it too!

Does anyone else have this 'bulge' after their install? If you look closely you can see the edge of the skirt does not follow the edge of the windshield border. I checked the passenger side and it looks like it's supposed to be in-line.

When I installed, I made sure nothing was in the way of the plastic tabs on the inside of the skirt piece but it still seems like something is in the way. Is my only option to trim the tabs?

I did this mod today. I was a little OCD about it, and it still only took 30 minutes.

    I went the: M6-1 x 30mm, 6MM Flat Washer, M6-1 U-nut, route.
Bolt and washer readily available at ACE hardware. The U-nut (speed nut) I did have to get from Autozone.

Shout out to NK1794 (post 121 in this thread). His video was very helpful. I wouldn’t have thought about disconnecting the battery. Smart.

I grabbed this a week ago in anticipation of the job. Made popping open the SRS cap to access the bolt a breeze.

That's what I was thinking but if I loosen the bolts any more then I can feel a 'click' whenever I pick myself up using the bar. Granted, I'm not the lightest guy

You may need to add a spacer (washer) between the A pillar trim and the steel mount to allow you to torque up the bolt without deforming the plastic.

Note: I noticed the passenger side does have a little flex from the factory.

I put the grab bar on my ‘20 and got the same bulge in the pillar trim.
