Just changed spark plugs...never believe the previous person was capable of anything?

Furthermore, who cares what someone else does? If you want to disagree you can do so without saying it's a "stupid" comment. Other than Empty Lord, I don't think any of us are real mechanics. Let's just try to help one another(when someone asks). I'm a proud glove wearer as well. Ever read some of the chemicals in the products we use? I'm trying to avoid an early death from cancer.

You should see the hodge podge of crap in my tool chests. Haven't had a motor blow because of any of them. Usually the problem with tools is the one using them.

I was blessed with understanding how to work on stuff but it came through experience. But when people start saying this and that is the only way, I just yield the floor. I use anti seize, and all sorts of things but know how to apply to the job at hand. I can feel when a fastener is at its proper tension, and I can tell when some grease monkey cranked down on my shit at a dealership or shop with an impact

 

Hmm, does that apply if your doing it 1st person or someone else doing it for you.

Oh, and I have mostly kobalt tools. They're pretty good. And I use 3m gloves cause my truck is horribly oily everywhere.

 

Yeah, the side of the carport my wife parks on is a train wreck from oil drips. She had the Lexus before we were married and I'm tired of messing with that thing. I hate front wheel drive. It runs fine but she needs to park it in the yard. Oil pan gaskets are fried. The valve cover gaskets made a believer

You complain, tell people to check torque every 5-8k as you have found them "loose"....BUT you do not torque them to Toyotas specs, but rather by "feel"?

You sure did duritobags. No I did not complain. I stated a factual observations as I found on my truck. Go back and read everything again as I stand by it. Look at my posted picture of the NGK spark plug directions. I followed them. I do not have an in. pounds torque wrench.

Are those ‘torque’ specs or ‘feel’ specs? Are you arguing with NGK one of the biggest/best spark plug companies in the world? Or with me? Is it bad to go back check on your spark plugs and why does it matter to you? Why did the OP plugs become loose?

If it helps at all, I also do it by feel. I use a small dab of anti seize (not with the brush, I get a tiny bit on my finger and rub it on threads). I have never found mine to be loose later. I am super careful when installing new ones.

I hear ya. We have one late night drunk at 0200hours posting, another Taco guy thats butt hurt still from last week, and now batting clean up is a second gen guy. Yay!

 

You should use that fancy new impact gun to run those plugs down real good.

 

I guess I might. Then everyone will jump one me for not using the #1 75-100 ft.pounds setting instead of the mack daddy 1400torque pounds upper limits.

 

I bought a 3/4 impact and cranked the compressor up to 175PSIG for the crankshaft bolt on the wife's car. It didn't work. 36" cheater and a 24" breaker finally did the trick with it bowed over and blocked off. It went back on with a goop of anti-seize on the bolt and the washer. This was for a timing belt that had been changed at 100K at the dealership.

This thing hits hard. Its a bit heavy and the fwd/rev button is too easily switched from its mode with thumb by accidental handling. Other than that, its a work of art.

That's a crank bolt on a Yamaha 3.0. Came out pretty easy. I highly recommend one.

You all don't know torque until you've had to tighten an air cooled VW gland nut. 254lbs using a channel lock.

 

FYI: be careful using regular sockets with your impact gun. Especially given the extreme torque that Milwaukee puts out.

I am an average mechanic and know my limitations and thought I knew how to change spark plugs...this post was fun to read and reinforces that whenever in doubt read the f**king manual!
