Looking to possibly buy one this week. Looks solid, frame etc. Has 170k on it. Anything I should look for being this vintage?

Lol. Looking for a good daily, something reliable. I only use it about 10k a year to tow the toys.

Look for frame rust, and timing belt replacement. T belt is supposed to be replaced every 100k. Kind of an expensive job if you have to pay someone to do it....

Except now I see thats the v6....I don't know anything about those, timing belt? Chain?

Those had the weak planetary gear assembly in the transmission. Do not tow in overdrive.

If you feel some random, hard shifts you can count on the tranny getting ready to check out.

Otherwise, you will love the truck.

Timing belt. 90k interval. Unlike the v8 if the belt snaps all you have to do is replace the belt. Engine is non interference

    Awesome!

Like said above. Supercharge it. Add some methinol injection to reduce spark knock.

New rad and antifreeze. Why flush when another $20 you can replace the rad? Cheap maintainance.

License tag appears to be New York ?
If so, I believe it's the below truck ? Hard to tell about interior given the seat covers. Frame pictures look pretty decent and appears to be a double din has been already installed. $4200.00 not bad price !
I would log into register an account at Toyota using the VIN # shown in one of the pics....5TBBN44102S284811. You could then see if any work or recalls had been recorded at the dealer. 2002 Tundra.jpg

Depending on what you’re towing, the v6 is a bit underpowered.
I had a T100 (lighter truck) with the same 3.4 V6, great engine, decent mileage, good overall truck, and it sucked towing anything substantial, I replaced it with the V8 Tundra mainly for towing, if I didn’t need to tow anything I’d still be in the T100.
The V6 will do a lot, but be prepared to work it hard and take it slow, since you’re main need is for towing, I’d look for a V8.

I mentioned the supercharger because of this reason. By installing it your basically making it similar to the v8 output with a standard transmission. It would in no way make it a race truck. The SC would make the 3.4 livable. Or like you said just be on the look out for a 4.7.

If your towing is less than 2500lbs, I'd say go for it. The 3.4 and 5sp may just be the most reliable combo ever put in vehicle by any manufacturer... it's only competition would probably be the 2.7 with a 5sp put in 1st Gen Tacomas. Good luck!

Very true, just doesn’t seem cost effective, and money was mentioned as a factor in his truck buying.

My heaviest trailer is my rzr. I'm just looking for reliability. I'm looking at it currently, we shall see.

Cleaner than expected . Even the seats smelled new. Only issue I saw was CV boots seeping a little grease.

You've got a rare one there. I don't think you'd have a problem selling it on here if you wanted to.

Looks good, towing an rzr with it should be no problem.
