What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Any good quality recommendations on rear drum brake shoes springs replacement kits? For 2002.

I have the shoes. I’m just looking for a proper quality kit for the accessories for a proper DIY install.

 

The Napa spring kit is what I use.

I just got some cheap Sony component 6.5" speakers from Walmart, stock tweeters. They seem fine to me. Might add a sub in 2020. I had kicker 6.5" and rockfordfosgate tweeters and a kicker 10" sub in my 99 taco and that shit sounded immaculate

 

the hertz components are about 100 for the set.. and i only need 2. may as well go somewhat decent. as for a sub im thinking maybe a under seat later on. but i'll see how the door speakers do. i listen to country and classic rock.. no massive bass needs

 

I listen to classic rock, punk and metal mostly. The bass is nice for punk and metal

 

Any other recco’s on the brake component/springs?

Also, any recco’s on larger port/upgraded bleeder screws for faster bleeds for our trucks?

 

I think I used Cenrtic, maybe Wagner for the drum hardware. All the kits are basically the same though.

Do I remember you saying a trick fix for the bearing leak was to slightly pull/readjust one of the seals?

If so, which one? #1 or #2?

 

The russel speed bleeders are a beautiful thing.

 

The 42423 is a retainer, it can be pressed to far, and if it is it’ll leak, it’s what the seal rides on

 

I've used these before in my Jeep and they are awesome. You are able to open the bleeder and pump the brakes without have to tighten the bleeder back down every pump.

Makes the whole process very quick and possible with one person.

There is slight confusion with our 1st Gens as the front and rear bleeders are different sizes per 1st Gen reviewers (all Double Cab guys with WL fronts).

I have the WE fronts. Wonder what part numbers are correct/incorrect from Russel as thats where the reviewers state confusions.

Need bleeder thread and pitch on 2002 rear drums and front calipers OR proper Russel part number(s) if anyone has these.

Also, can teflon tape be used on old bleeders (without jacking things up)? Noticed my OEM thread sealant on the threads cracking off the other day when bleeding/loosening. Any other suggestions welcome. Thank you.

 

Let me know if the new bleeder valves come with rubber condoms. Most of mine disintegrated when I took them off.

 

Has anyone purchased Evan Fischer catalytic converters for their Tundra?
I can't find nuts to install the oxygen sensor.

 

What I need to do to my tundra....



an ice cube parked on a lake of black ice, only slightly uphill of the Tacoma ice cube. Going to have to do a lot of chopping before I dare try to move it. Will bake the body dry in the sun, but do wonder how much hood paint will come off with the ice.

 

I'm a big fan of all things jl audio. I've got the 6.5 coaxials and 2 10w0s in my work van.

I would stay far away from centric. Y'all remember when I did my rear axles?

 

I think that's more of how they're treated in transit more than anything to be honest. I've had that issue with a couple different brands over the years.

 

Well... just completed work on my new-to-me 05 Access Cab Limited with Stepside. Purchased 2 weeks ago from original owner who NEVER did any maintenance other than oil (every 7500 to 10k) and plugs (twice), (other than wear items) with 267K miles. She had the frame replaced in 2015, but did nothing other than what the dealer provided with the replacement.... I finished up timing belt et al, radiator, full tune up, all fluids, shocks, rear sway (Hellwig) front calipers/rotors/pads, rear axle cover (cut and welded... barnes4wd.com cover!!!) E-Brakes, shoes and cylinders, LEDs inside, exhaust, end links... and I am sure I am forgetting a few things... I must say, for a neglected New England truck, it sure has bounced back sweetly! Total investment is less than 6000.00 (including purchase price). Passing it off to my son as a Christmas present!

One minor issue I have not tracked down, but have beat up the forums and interweb repeatedly... small water drip, passenger side floor, from the blower motor assembly. Took off the cowl, sealed all the clips, no signs of windshield rust, removed the blower, no sign of rust or damage, cleaned out the drain line on the firewall... NO SUNROOF... any other areas to clean and/or seal before I pass it along?

Must add... this is the 4th Tundra I have owned (00, 03, 06 and now 05)... first with this water leak issue.

Mine was leaking from those cowl clips. Double check they are sealed good.

 

I got some Pioneers for my doors when I finally get around to doing the swap. I think they around $70 for the pair\, and were rated one of the best under $100 online.

 

You happen to know the model? I’m looking for high sensitivity so I can hopefully avoid adding an amp

I had that same leak at the cowl directly over the fan blower after doing the ‘fix’ via removing cowl and sealing clips. The leak reappeared at a slower rate a few months later and so was perplexed as to the problem. Went out on a rainy day and removed the blower to see what could be seen and it ended up being the water was coming in from the screw hole on the clip. Not sure where my pics are?

I ended up caulking by feel with my hand up the blower hole loading up the bottom of the clip with Fuze. I suppose you could remove the cowl again and caulk the clip screw hole from the topside, but for me it was easier to go up the blower hole since the cover was off. It acts as a sound deadener as well.
