You’d be better off with a dual battery set-up. Not only dual batteries, but AGM or better type batteries will greatly exceed any stock battery you’re running now. I’m running dual optima yellow top batteries, they are deep cycle for all my gadgets but also have the cold crank amps to start the truck. I have a Ctek 7002 battery charger that gets them up to 14.6 volts overnight.
I super surprised with a wheel chair ramp you’re not already running dual batteries.

I’m awaiting a diode in the mail, I will be replacing the 7 amp alternator fuse with, it tricks the alt into charging an extra .5V, so slightly above 14v when truck is on is what I expect.

I had the 240 amp alternator from Mechman. I was very happy with it! I had one or two aftermarket lights. Lol

So, you guys that switched the alternator to a higher output, was the change out difficult?

I just replaced my alternator in my '08. It took me 6 hours. I want to FUPA puch the engineer that designed the layout of the 5.7.

As long as you have the towing package, you already have the higher output alternator. Your handicap lift does not put that much of a stress on your electrical system. I think an aftermarket OBDII monitor like a ScangaugeII would be the best and easiest investment to monitor your charging system heath.

The newer LED off road lights are very user friendly. They put a very small load on the electrical system compared to incandescent fogs/off rad lights.

Whew, those aren't cheap. Did you actually notice a difference. Does running extra options(lights, amps, etc) actually make the stock one overworked? I now i have gotten my headlights to dim from my stereo at night, if I really have it cranked and there is a lot of bass in a song.

When I had my stereo up, and I had seven different light bars on my gauge showing my amps didn’t even dip a little bit. It was a very noticeable difference! I had 4 wheel parts do the install and they said it was a pain to do. Mechman does recommend upgrading the main power and ground wires to 1/0 cables. You do have to change out the serpentine belt out because the pulley on the alternator is a different size.

just replaced my alternator for the second time with a high output 250A alternator from JS. Yes it's a PITA with this truck to change it.
Failure seems to be coming from mud or dirty water getting splashed onto the alternator...
So I'm searching for anyone who may have heard of MOVING the alternator to a different place in the engine bay besides right down by the tire & road.
Or even just a shroud or shield of some sort to act as a splash guard. Might just have to build my own.
