I guess I'm just old school, but I like the column shifter. I wouldn't hate the floor shifter but I like it out-of-the-way on the column. Now give me a manual trans and I'd be a very happy man.

Column shifter even if it is hard to get out of P sometimes. Although the Tundra stick is crazy long makes it ugly. Might be due to the shifter buttons. Plus, Honey can cozy up.

Floor is wasted space IMO although it's better for shifting and mod.

I've driven both and I much prefer the floor shifter, but I feel it's just a personal choice.

I have had manual floor shifters with bench seats.
Why not automatic floor shifters with bench seats?
Ill have to look at mine but i would think you could mod the console and take out the middle storage box and fit the bench seat in there. Might have to take bench seat to an upolustry shop to mod the console area. That would be much easier than moving the shifter to the column.

Floor. Every vehicle I've had has had one. I'm too used to resting my hand on the shifter.

Floor to rest my hand. I do a lot of down shifting in S mode when going down hills on the highway and coming up to stop lights.

Being from the UK......learned to drive on a stick shift (manual gearbox) and never had an auto transmission before I arrived in the USA.....so stick shift for me

That wasn't the question. Question was with an automatic transmission do u like floor or column shift. I like floor with a bench but not an option. But I too was raised on a stick. Don't think that's an option anymore with a Tundra. If it is I'll bet only 1-5% are a stick.

Hi guys, is there a way to get the Floor Shifter without getting the extra large fuel tank. The larger fuel tank eats up a lot of payload on the double cab 4x4.

You don't have to fill it up... it sure is nice on a long trip. Especially if your pulling something. If you're worried about payload you probably need air bags and a LD Hitch. Xtra Fuel is a nonconcern since you have to have it and you don't have to fill the tank.

Thanks, I understand but the owners manual rates towing capacity for a DC 4x4 with large tank at only 9100lbs. A normal tank gets a 9900lb rating.

800 lbs doesn't make sense. There is only 80 lbs difference in 26 gal and 36 gal not 800.

I joined the forum just to reply to this thread (even though it's a bit old). Thanks for all the folks who gave input. As a former 2001 & 2000 Tundra owner who's back in the market I was wondering what folks thought of the floor shifter.

My first reaction about a floor shifter was negative but after some thought I think it will be a non-issue. Certainly, one of my "must-haves" is the 38 gallon tank and from what I can tell that tank is only an option with the SR5 and models above it.

tundra shift lever.jpg tundra shift lever D.jpg New guy here. Found this forum while I was looking to see if anyone had addressed the unreasonably long column shifter. Came from a F150 with a floor shifter and liked the space made available with the column. That being said, I have had the truck for 9 months now and still dislike the length. Until this weekend however, I finally cut it down! Had to perform it in a couple of stages to determine what would work. It turns out it has to be cut at the first bend (from the column) to clear the wiper stalk. Then of course reconnect the wires for the S function. looks much more unobtrusive now.

I don’t know. I used to watch my dad drive a 3 on the tree. I was like WTF is going on over there! I think it’s pretty manly but it sure is a pain in the ass. I’ve never had the opportunity to try it.

I am sitting in my truck right now and the two pictures he posted don’t match where my shifter sits. So he did shorten it.

it is automatic, never said manual. you commenters are to intense. the point, which was obviously missed on all but one, is that i shortened the shifter pedestal by 5" to 6". an earlier contributor was asking if it had ever been done, so i was just replying that it can be done effectively.
