    So I'm going to start painting my skids tomorrow. Thinking about doing the front red to match my coils and shackles. Then the rest black. My only concern is this smashed cross member from my last off road adventure. Might make things difficult to line up lol.

    I can see why skids plates are important. That cross member looks like my drawers did for a few days earlier in the week which was not good.

    I'm going to hack the one out of my Tacoma and put the universal one from TMR customs in there. But I'm looking to flat belly the Tacoma but it's cheap and you could probably get it to work for your truck too. Just require some Fab work

    Interesting test. I checked when I got home. Both front rotors were around 115 degrees and the rear drums were around 100.

    @because_wumbo-truck

    Were your skids not powdercoated? Why paint them?

    Don’t grease the pistons. AFAIK The brake “grease” on top of the pistons is for reducing squeal, not for actual lubrication. On my track car the brake lube bakes away after a session and leaves a funky residue so I only use it to prevent squeal while on the road.

    Got side tracked today on steering bushing installation by the front brake shiny object. At least I got in my 2-3 hours of core exercise setting up and breaking down the jack stands and crawling around underneath.

    The more I look at these existing bushings on the truck the better they look! They were replaced by who knows and not sure when? No record of them ever being replaced which is why I bought them in the first place. Shoulda looked first before ordering. Only guess is this was done during the front end rebuild last year and they didn’t record it. I’ll just hold on to these new ones until/if a new steering rack is ever needed.

    Parking brake is working pretty darn good since the drum cable corrections. The driving around and regular use has worked some mojo on it. I can actually stop the truck with it at slow speeds now.

    Peeped into the rear driver hole with a flashlight and no oil so far. Still to early to tell if newer axle seal is leaking so she will need some more miles on her.

    Go into a lot and do figure 8s it will push oil outwards, work out your lsd, and then know for sure if the new seals are bad.
    My dad had a older 1st gen taco; automatic. And he was old school and learned to drive on a stick, so he still set the parking break every day, everywhere he went. Probably one of the only repairs he had to take it to the dealer for, was a stuck ebrake switch.

    Finished getting my new radio all buttoned up last night and also put white leds behind the a/c controls. Put in what I think is a super slick back up camera as I hate the way plate holder cameras look

    Yeah. Yours should be too. No need to paint unless you just want to.

    This is normal. The pads always lightly touch the rotors. This is that thing I've been talking about with brakes, in order to work properly, there must be essentially no freeplay. Disc brakes accomplish this automatically, while drums need adjustment.

    Just realized your truck is an 05 but has the bumper they only offered from 00-02. They must have kept that bumper on the regular cabs only.

    Work trucks has them. Work trucks only came in v8s too aparently. The long bed v6 trucks were not work spec. Makes no sense

    I personally like the way it looks now. Nice and clean. Would look better with 33's though. :cool:
