I keep looking at the 3rd Gen console and cant help but think I could install one in my 2nd Gen. The reason is, I just like the looks better, the vault, the armrest. It just looks cleaner. The dimensions look the same, it looks exactly the same from the rear. On the left front of my existing console there is a plastic molding that joins the console to the dash. Could you not just replace that with the same piece front a column shift model and it fix that issue. I am really intrigued by this and wanted to get other members thoughts as well.

I want to replace the 2nd gen Console with a 3rd gen console. Keeping the floor shifter. Just upgrade the console, not go column shifter.

    Good for you.

The link I posted says it is possible, he did it in a Truck with a center seat and column shifter so had to fill in the hole for the floor shifter, you won't have to.

    You're welcome.

Get off your high horse. You didn't do anything to help answer the question.

OP, I know what piece you're talking about. Couldn't you just trim it and leave it installed to the dash? It pops on to both the console and the dash.

Random question, is there anyway you could just swap the console lids? 2nd gen to 3rd gen?

I agree but if you use the piece from the column shifter to fill in the missing section, then the shape doesn't matter, why couldn't I install the filler piece where the cigarette lighter is and then install the console? I hope what I am saying is making sense...If you look at both console pictures from the passenger side only, they are very familiar. From the rear they seem identical.radio.jpg

You have a solid point. I say go for it. Do it for science. To tell you the truth, I’ve always liked the design of the 14+ cup holder/ shifter area much better.

Might have to look into it after we get past Christmas and life gets back to normal. I like the new one due to all the accessories for it, especially the safe/vault option. It just looks better too.

Was just curious if anyone had tried it yet...

My mistake, does not change the fact I looked for the answer and provided what in good faith was the solution. What have you done to help?

Reminded him that the trim piece he is concerned about will stay snapped on to the dash should he trim it.

I can’t remember who did that but I’m pretty sure they can be swapped. The only difference is the shape of the top; 2nd gen has that wedge cutout on the drivers side whereas the 3rd gen is square.

NM; found the post confirming it won’t stay latched down.

That's a bummer. My biggest peeve with the 2nd gen is no dedicated place to hold a larger phone. I was hoping I could swap the console lid for a 3rd gen and use the built in pocket to hold my phone.

I put my phone and wallet in the recess between the shifter and the cup holders. My truck came missing the piece that snaps in to close off that recess. I had thought it was kinda ugly without it but found it very useful for my personal stuff as well as my disability placard. Quick access and no room for said items to move to.
I do agree the 14+ center console, center stack, and dash gauges are light years ahead of the 07-13.

    I'm currently using this https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q43DL14/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I would prefer to have a more integrated solution that preferably with wireless charging capabilities.

Old thread but I saw the Weathtech at the BX the other day. My Galaxy S9+ with Otterbox wont fit in it. Good thing I tried it saving a return visit.
