Incoming 5100's.... Which OME Springs?

Doing an Icon AAL in the back and 5100's all around, which spring though? Anyone have experience with the OME 885 vs 886 on our trucks and the height they give?

I'm not familiar with OME springs but I know we have some members that are. Do you not want to reuse your OEM springs? That's what a lot of people here have done.

I would have reused the stock springs if I had them but this is what mine looks like with the 5100s, 885 springs, and Icon AAL.

The reason I asked is because nearly everyone I've seen here with 5100's has reused their original springs since there is typically nothing wrong with them. I just wanted to make sure you were aware that was an option to try and save you some money.

 

You're the one who needs to tone it down. I haven't treated anyone like shit, unlike most of the membership towards me.

I simply pointed out to you that I didn't want to re-use the stock springs which is why I made this thread asking a very specific question and you want to attack me for pointing out what should be obvious.

Why does everyone in today's day and time feel the need to chime in their .02 when its irrelevant to the conversation? If I wanted to ask about stock springs I would have, but there is zero relevance to your response. I wasn't rude or anything towards you. I see why this forum is so dead, you run everyone off.

Correct on both. I like them but they've been warrantied twice for the finish flaking off. You also have to be very careful when they're damp the steps get really slippery.

The person in post #5 in this particular above linked thread could have helped you concerning your Icon AAL, but you are very quick with the middle finger. Lots of good info from everyone else in the linked thread, too. Everyone has been very helpful to you here.

Its your money. Spend/waste it as you wish on 885 and Icons. Or, listen to experience which has already spoken above and in the above link.

 

I have the 885 coils with the driver side trim packer. I’m running them with the ome sport shocks. I got 3 inches on my 02 access cab. I don’t know if I would consider the 886 unless I was running serious extra weight in the front. It really should be 885 vs 887.

 

Yeah, I was wondering about 887's too, good catch! Coming from the Tacoma side of things I've had both and figured the added weight of the Tundra would make the 886' the way to go but it looks like 885's will be the ticket.

 

Without attempting to do the assumed lengthy research whether the OME 885 vs 886 vs 887's apply to the 2002 Tundra, I ask simply if it does?

 

They can be used on your truck, yes.

This is what I bought from toytec a couple years ago. You can see the driver side correction ring (trim packer) below the left coil spring. They advertise 2-2.5” lift, but that’s worst case scenario. Like I said I got 3 inches out of my 2wd access cab v8.

 

I put my secret decoder ring on after reading this last night and am still working on translation. Might have to break out the Marbles tinfoil decoder hat, too. Speaking of Marbles, where is he? Did his neighbour bail halfway through his Timing Belt job?

I was waiting until I got my bumper but I went ome shocks and 886 springs. I'm a little concerned but willing to try it! Will post once completed.

 

I've seen some really inconsistent results using OME springs on 5100s. Do a bit of Google searching on Tundra Solutions, their search engine is fubar so it's hard to find threads.

 

What year Tundra does the OEM 885, 886 and 887 springs apply to? Four wheel drive or 2 wheel drive springs? And the length of spring vs the 2002 TRD spring setup? Please educate me, or give an educational web link that explains this.

 

Technically, the OME 88x springs don't "apply" to the tundra. They were made for the Tacoma. Below are the differences.

• OME 883: 375mm in height, 590 pound spring rate
• OME 884: 390mm in height 590 pound spring rate
• OME 885: 395mm in height 590 pound spring rate
• OME 886: 402mm in height 660 pound spring rate
• OME 887: 400mm in height 590 pound spring rate
• OME 888: 405 mm in height 590 pound spring rate

 

Thnx. One would think the 1st gen Tundra springs would have a higher pound spring rate than a Taco w/o looking. Are these mentioned Taco springs on later generations. If so, what gen Taco springs are you guys referring to that are better than the 1st gen OEM Tundra springs?

I'm lacking a lot of swapping out part knowledge.

I would think the 660lb would be the way to go based on most people go with 700lb springs when doing a bumper/winch so, we'll see if that works out!

I think I'm going to order my bumper after Christmas.

Yes, I’ve also read where first gens run into issues. Tacoma owners use 5100’s with OME coils all the time. From what I’ve read, the tacoma 5100’s extend out longer on the bottom setting compared to the tundras version. OME makes shocks specially to pair with their coils I’m not a brain surgeon, but we could always go that route and bypass the bilstein/OME discussion all together.

 

If anybody with a first gen is looking for lift in the 2.5 to 3 inch range. I would do 885 for access cabs, 887 for double cabs. and 886 for a double cab with extra front weight, heavy bumper, winch etc.

 

Has OEM changed to a new coined term from Original Equipment Manufacturer to OME??
Doesn't make sense. Like changing long standing terminology TAD "temporary assignment duty" to TDA "temporary duty assignment."

I have my left hand and right, but my center post will always satisfy her. That won't change, so why change old terminology that's been around since dirt?
