Belt Part # 79-08-11-024[Dan Bronsten] Yep that is our part number. The Dayco part number is 5081125, just in case you want to price shop. We are not the cheapest on belts.


SC Fluid - only after leak[Dan Bronsten] , correct the oil is self-contained and maintenance free. It would be very rare to have a leak.


Intercooler - every 100k[Dan Bronsten] , yes. Whenever you change the engine coolant. I would check the level of this fluid in the reservoir every oil change. That way you can make sure there are no leaks in the system at the various hose connections.


I’m in the middle of the OV tune process now and shifting is much improved over the Magnuson delivered tune. I think it is worth the $$ to get a tune matched to your vehicle. Good luck.

 

I had the HP tuner on mine, larger injectors and a larger fuel pump. I did have the Magnuson SC for FFV. You can call the guys at Prospeed Auto Sports out of Houston, TX if you want to ask them more details on the install. They also sell an upgraded fuel rail system if you want. Personally, I would keep it simple and follow Magnuson's guide lines. Unless you want to drop some serious coin. After doing everything I did, I wouldn’t spend all the extra money, to do the larger injectors, fuel pump and custom tuner if I could avoid it. It all adds up fast and I don’t think the extra money out-ways the gains. I loved a SC tundra but I would keep it more simple the second time around.

If I was to do a SC tundra again I would keep the stock headers, stock cats and replace the rear exhaust. Then I would have the truck Dyno tested with the Bully Dog tuner since that’s magnuson’s preferred setup. If that doesn’t perform up to your liking then you can go down the rabbit hole of injectors, fuel pump, full exhaust and all the other add ons. That’s my .02 from my own experience.

 

Thanks. That sounds like some solid advice regarding stepping outside the standard install. I don't plan on running any aftermarket headers, cats, injectors or pump. I plan to keep it simple as well with maybe just a custom tune aside from the basic install. I've already got the TRD exhaust and will likely stick with that.

 

I’ll throw in my 2 cents, I’d encourage you to really think this threw and make sure you really do your homework and realize all the cost involved to do a safe build keep in mind that once you start you’ll find yourself wanting more and more horsepower. It’s very addicting! Several years ago I bought a new 350z (I understand it’s a different demon) and I got into the forums and I got caught up in the forced induction game, I installed a vortex sc, bigger injectors, hi flow fuel pump, return fuel line, new computer, AF gauges, hi flow cats, aqua mist water methane injection, headers, exhaust, custom tunes on the dyno and on & on I could go. In the end I had this really bad ass car that I pumped 35k into and within a few year it wasn’t worth much more then a stock Z. If you got the coins and it’s your dream then do it. Just remember someday you’ll get older like me and might wish you’d saved that money to invest. I will say I had a lot of fun, and have some good memories. But there is a price to pay! Good luck

 

Did you go all in with full mods, or did you progress from the Magnusson setup to the Prospeed fuel upgrade arrangement? What don’t you like about it?

You have gotten a lot of good advice here and I wont simply repeat what has already been said. If I was to do it again today I would call Magnuson and negotiate a price break for their "tuner" kit without the BD tuner. Next I would spend that money on a OVTune to install at the same time. Maybe the dealer you plan to buy through can get you a price break on the tuner kit from magnuson to offset some of the cost of the OVTune too. I ran the BD tune for a couple of years and it made good power but the shifting was a bit wonky at times, and I never completely trusted the tune's fuel ratios above 4K rpm.

 

Have you considered Harrop's SC with an Orange Virus Tune?

The Harrop is another good option but a costlier one. It would be a better option if the OP was looking for upper limit HP #'s as the bigger unit has the capability to easily over stress the stock internals when you start pushing boost psi/CFM air flow up. With the OP's goals in mind the only advantage I see to going with the Harrop would be a little less boost required to make the same power...say maybe 6psi instead of 7 and maybe runs a bit cooler moving the same air with less boost.

 

Still waiting at the moment. I've received the dual catch can kit from Radium Engineering and also ordered the Figs Engineering coolant reservoir. Wife and i are taking the kids to Disneyworld and Universal Studios in FL for xmas, then heading out to Hawaii mid January for our 15 year anniversary. Realistically I'm probably going to pull the trigger on the Magnuson end of January or beginning of February. Thanks for the continued input, you guys rock! Ive learned so much from this community. I'll probably lead with the Magnuson and Bully Dog combo since its being installed at Toyota and they have done many installations in that format. I do plan on swapping the tune with OV tuning afterwards. I wish I had more progress to comment on, but its still in the works.

 

I would still consider skipping a step and saving a little money simply going with the Magnuson tuner kit. Bring your laptop along with your new OVTune ready to go and flash the truck before you hand them the keys. Then you pick up the truck later and do some data logging for OVTune while on your way home. Unless I am missing something like retaining your warranty post SC install. Then by all means stick with your plan.

I knew when I installed the Magnuson myself a few years ago I was potentially giving up the last couple of years on my extended warranty. That said I had been driving the truck for a few years trouble free already. Even bounced my thoughts off my friend(Toyota Tech 20+ years and has installed more than a few TRD SC's) and was told that if the truck didnt give me any trouble after the first few years of owning it I wasn't going to use the remaining warranty most likely anyway.

 

I see your point. I think it's worthwhile bringing up to Toyota and see if that's something they can work with me on. I don't know if they sell the tuner kit as some do or only the full kit with the Bully Dog. I've thought about purchasing the Magnuson elsewhere and just have them do the install, but I figured if they ran into any issues (missing, broken parts) it might turn into a mess since the kit wasn't purchased from them. If they do their typical install (Magnuson/Bully Dog combo) they will ensure everything is good to go.

As for warranty, I do have the $0 Ded Platinum Toyota warranty til 100K miles, currently I'm at about 53,500. I know this won't cover the Magnuson, so I'd only have whatever warranty they provide on that, maybe 12 months?...I'll need to confirm that as well. Truck has been trouble free as well aside from a battery needing replaced and the cam tower leak on the drivers side (both under warranty). I plan to reach out to Right Toyota in the next couple weeks to answer all my outstanding questions and get a firm quote.

 

Those Magnuson kits are well thought out and complete...I mean down to the little stuff like a tube of grease to relube the intake o-ring's and such. However you may be stuck buying the kit through the dealer AND having them install the supplied BD tune IF you have any hope of retaining your current warranty coverage.

 

Inspiring me to spend money I don't have. Any suggestions on installers in the NC/SC or VA area that can install a Magnuson kit on my '11?

 

Iowa here and I do almost all of my own non warranty work on my stuff. If you are handy and have some decent tools it is a day and a half job by yourself needing a second set of hands to set the SC in place. And that is reading the well written instructions over a couple of times and going slow. Just make sure you have a short 12mm swivel socket to get at four of the intake bolts.

 

That sound great. I'm pretty handy but no shop mechanic. So something a DIY shade tree mechanic can do I take it?

Read through the manual AZTundra posted above. Its a very well written install manual and honestly it is not that difficult, just lots of steps and time consuming. You will need to pull the drivers front wheel to access some things as well as access the engine from below to route new cooling lines and such. But mostly you will be working on the top/front of the engine.

 

Yea, the manual is insanely thorough and the whole process itself is actually pretty simple. I mean 90% of it is swapping the intake manifold lol.

 

Thank you guys, really appreciate the help here. I have the 5.7 FFV, any gotcha's with that (injectors or such) or is it pretty much a plug and play install with no special tuning or remapping? I seem to recall conversations regarding changing injectors (but thought FFV were already larger?) and/or Bullydog as an optional upgrade for management.

 

The FFV will not require swapping injectors or fuel pump. Otherwise install is the same as non-FFV. The Magnuson will come with the Bully Dog tuner to re-calibrate the ECU (if purchased in the kit) or you can always do some type of custom tune.

I've been reading through my new Harrop manual. interesting enough, for my model year, a 2018, Harrop states that larger fuel injectors aren't required unless you opt for their "Stage 2" setup, which is just a smaller pulley (80mm vs. 85mm). Although, my kit did include the larger fuel pump. I also spoke to Harrop, they confirmed this (US&AU). The manual also states "No calibration required for a 2018"). This really blew my mind...

I have the base tune from OV, install in three weeks!

I mainly use the truck to tow my 20' Airstream travel trailer, so my tune will be taylormade for that.

 

Anyone who is considering installing the Supercharger: you should read through the manual completely and with a yellow highlighter cross out the steps that do not pertain to your Tundra year or fuel type. Also you may run into red tape with Magnuson warranty, as for the installation is to be performed and signed off by a ASE certified mechanic

Yeah, that does make a big difference for any of us considering DIY installs. My problem is finding a good installer/dealer that comes highly recommended in my NC/SC/VA area.

To your point they say:
"1) Magnuson warrants each new product to be free from defects in both workmanship and material for a period of three (3) years or 36,000 miles from the date of purchase. The installation of the Magnuson Products, LLC Supercharger System must be conducted by: a certified new car dealership, a certified Magnuson Products, LLC installer, or by an automotive service technician certified by the Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) at an automotive repair facility with a valid business license."

 

I will be using Right Toyota in Scottsdale, AZ for my install. They have done many installations here in the Phoenix area. I plan to connect with them in the next few weeks to get a firm quote for the supercharger and install. Hoping they will be able to take some pictures of the process for me as well.

 

This is a good point and I forgot completely about it. I talked with Magnuson 3+ years ago about ordering and installing myself and got the ok in writing. That said I did a bunch of my individual ASE certifications 25+ years ago while working as a mechanic and going to school for my engineering degree, and I have a business license and do fabrication & repairs out of my Shop/Home as a side hustle/second income.
