I agree that the wireless charging should not be used with a magnet on the back of your phone but, if I'm not mistaken, many of the magnetized mounts only require a thin steel plate to be attached to the phone side; the magnet is only on the mount side.
With that being said, the steel plate does need to be placed in a location that is outside of the wireless charging area. The video is a bit older but does a good job of explaining placement:

Basically, the transfer of energy from the charger to the phone is done through induction. A alternating magnetic field is created by the charge surface which influences a coil inside the phone to generate current. Placing ferric sheet metal between charge generator and the recieving coil can create heat.

An article about changing phone backs from metal to glass in order to achieve efficient induction wireless charging:
"Part of the alternating magnetic field is consumed by generating circulating currents, known as “eddy currents” in the back. These eddy currents heat up the back in just the same way as electric current heats up the element in an electric heater."

I’m hopeful they will ramp up production. They can sell one for every gen2+ Tundra on the planet.

Does anyone know if I can hook up the wireless charger directly to the battery without going thru the ignition switch?

Do you have a case for your phone?

I ordered, and then canceled, a 10 plus order because I was nervous that it wouldn't fit. I ordered the charger way after everyone else, so who knows when mine will arrive.

My son's note 10 barely fits in the stock console, but he has a largish case.

Look into Spigen cases. I had the slim armor on my last phone and the tough armor on this phone and they are both great cases and not clunky at all. I have had these cases for about 6-7 years on 2 phones and no damage to either phone. I have had my share of drops and other accidents and come out damage free. I have zero issues charging thru this tough armor case.

I have a spigen case now on my note 8, but it's a wallet case. I lose my purses, but never my phone, so the wallet case is great. And this spegen case is very slim but protective

It is always drawing (limited) power to some degree, but the charger is only active when you have pressed the button to turn it on.

Maybe I'll add a toggle switch to turn on power before turning on the main power to charge my phone.

This has an on/off button, but the default at start up is that it's on, just like the power outlets. If you wire it to the battery you will have the ability to turn it on and off without any switches or mods to it

If the truck is off, no power is going to the charger or 12v rear outlet

I'll be running a wire straight from the battery (with a fuse) to the unit.

If you wire it to the battery you would have to turn it off and it wouldnt draw power. Even if you left it on I bet the draw is minimal when not charging, its only a few LED lights that are on. Oh and it has an inline fuse
There are 3 modes of this thing no matter how you power it...
    1 off
    2 on standby
    3 on charging

I'm always on the go and my phone needs constant charging. I can lock my truck and leave my phone charging while I'm running in stores.

I may do this eventually. I'm curious what the draw is while on in standby mode, assuming I will often forget to turn it off. I really doubt it's much at all, its 3 little green LED lights. I have no idea how to test it and also wouldn't know what the results mean anyway, so I'll wait for someone to do it and tell me lol.
