    Guys

I was just watching a youtube vid on the Tundra. I have a 2010. Few things I just noticed and didn't like. Rear window behind the seat is manual, storage box under the rear seat (I like mine without) and no grab handles in the ceiling. Small things that I wished they didn't change.

Watch this one, it shows the the good and bad. This vid along with some advice from a friend of mine who knows and loves Toyota's, led me to buy my 19. Not a 20, but pretty close i think.;)

Not so much comparing it to a 2010. I just happen to have a 2010. I don't know what year they quit having a power back window on the double cab, no grab handles and added a storage box under the rear seat. These were just features I have and don't understand how removing them would be an improvement. Don't get me wrong. I'd love a new 2019 or 2020 Tundra. I might upgrade. I just hated to see those small things I took for granted gone. Not that big a deal.

I have a 2020 DC. They did add a under seat rear storage box and can be easily removed. No power rear window but it doesn't bother me, my Tacoma had a power rear window and I never used it. The Android Auto is a nice addition.

I don't use the power window much either. I do haul a long piece of lumber occasionally but as long as it opens that's fine. Glad to hear you can remove the storage under the seat. Thanks for the reply.

it's quite easy to remove. It used two threaded knobs on each side so no tools are required.

You can also add the drivers side grab handle. I know it adds cost to something that should already be there, but I think it’s around $150 and 30 min of your time.

Not in the ceiling but still works. Or did you mean in the rear? I’ve never been in a DC.

Another thing that was added in 2020 was the auto headlights on every trim level. The switch no longer has an off position. It only has auto, marker and on. Toyota finally figure out lots of owners were running around at night with their lights off.

Also auto high beams is a great feature that was not available in the older SR5 trim level.

Problem is I have a 2010 Double Cab purchased new with 96000 miles that I still love. But new is nice! I did brakes and rotors last year and new radiator, water pump, thermostat, belts and hoses last week. It's running great. Damn...decisions decisions.

My 2019 SR5 has this. I think it's just part of one of the various package options. Not all will have it. Personally, I don't like the auto high beams. I don't like how long it waits to dim the lights for oncoming traffic.

The auto lights is included on any Toyota vehicle that has TSS. Your right in that it works in an odd way. Sometimes not dimming quick enough or not coming on when you want them on but it's easy enough just to disable them with the switch and work them as you would normally. I find that they work much better than the auto dim light that my Tacoma had.

Ahhh, didn't know the TSS was what did it. Thank you.

You are correct about just running them manually. I usually leave it on auto, but if it's being dumb I just pull back on the switch to turn it off.

honestly beside cosmetics and more creature comfort, it is the same truck: same engine, transmission, frame, suspension.
I'm waiting for the gen 4 personally to see whats new but I got my gen 2 where I want it so no point in trading up.
Better mpg/range is what I want to see in the next one.

If you love your current truck, and you don't expect major issues, I'd wait. Unless you don't think you'll like what the next gens offer. The only reason I got the truck was because I already had 2 car payments, so trading both in on it actually saves me money and was a lateral move for the principle of the loan.

I feel ya. Even though my 2010 is almost 10 years old, at 96000 it drives like new. But the blue with black 20" wheels.

Oh, I know. The Cavalry Blue (my color choice) absolutely lights up with black accents. I might eventually bedline the rocker panels, because a friend had a light blue dodge done that way, and it was beautiful.

I have a $$ in mind I would need to pay for the truck and a $$ in mind I need for the trade. I don't think they can hit that but if they did I might go against my better financial judgement. I also turned 60 this year. I do love money but no time like the present to enjoy my toys.

That's not a bad plan. I would suggest you don't even bother with a price for the truck and the trade. Do what I did. Go in and say "I don't care if you over or undervalue the truck or my trade, but if you can give me that one right there for $XX,XXX then I want it."

Good plan. Surprising I have bought many new cars/trucks but never traded any in when purchased. Always felt it was not a good idea to get butchered on a trade.

Yeah, best way to avoid that is to not focus on the trade and the purchase as two separate things. Look at the out the door price you want, and see if they will give it to you. Doesn't matter how they work their numbers or fees as long as you are happy with your OTD cost. Just make sure you actually get an "out the door price" or they will get the price and tack the fees on after.

I got raped on my trade. A mint 2018 Tacoma Sport loaded with a pile of options with around 40,000 mile. Paid $40K new and got $27K on trade. Because the trade value is subtracted from the purchase price of the new truck for tax purposes I would have had to sell my Tacoma for more than $30K to break even. Also because private used vehicle loans can only be taken out for no longer than 5 years but a new vehicle loan can be taken for 7-10 years someone buying my truck would have a higher payment per month than a new vehicle. It was better for me just to trade it in.

Disclaimer - I'm in Canada so your situation may not be similar.

I imagine the taxes work differently, but I know nothing of the land of Maple Leaves, Beavers, and beer swilling hockey nuts. :notsure: (Joking of course. Online gaming I spoke with many from up North. All of them great people.)
The stuff I traded in was worth enough to save me from sales tax. Paid less than 5 bucks in taxes, and transferred plates saved me another 300. All in all I spent about $800 to get a lower interest rate, same loan balance, and only have to worry about maintenance on one vehicle.
