had to replace my tranny for my 07 a couple of years ago. had right at 150k miles on her. bad thing was I was traveling out of town when it went poof.

rolled into the Toyota dealership (where I had purchased it years ago). they took four hours to determine it was dead! had to get a rebuilt one from Toyota sent in from Cincinnati. cost was right at $5k. it sucked but I had to have it to get back to FL

I hate that for you bro. One thing I am real confused about is = 37's with 2.5 inch lift? How?

I think you read icon 2.5 as a 2.5” inch, but it’s actually the 2.5 diameter coil overs which can go as high as 3.5” I think. Don’t know what else he did from there. Maybe cmc or some fender trimming or more lift.

Hold up for the new guy....you've got 160k on the stock transmission when running a SC w/ tune, 37's and presumably a ton of gear...and folks are irked "it didn't last"?! What planet is this and why didn't I come here sooner?

Those kinds of mods would bomb "other" transmissions well before 100k. How many miles did you have on the truck with all the mods?

Sorry, you're right. It's more like 4" . 2.5" Icons, some trimming, no fender liners.

In this thread he says the truck started as a 2007. Then parts added from a newer body style. It's the most beautiful frankenstein's monster I've ever seen.

Sucks about the tranny, but like @Green Thunder said, 160k with heavy mods on a stock tranny is very respectful.

    My thoughts exactly.

I’m shocked, I would have expected it to blown the trans WELL before 160k with those mods. Why didn’t I buy a Toyota sooner? (This is my first Toyota).

Matt, this saddens me greatly. I hope the road to repair is without too many hurdles and the shop, whoever it is, treats you well.

Sorry to hear about that trans failing. My last F150 failed at 180K and it was stockity, stock stock. I hadn't hauled, pulled anything with that truck. Hadn't so much as put fuzzy dice in it for mods and it still broke the reverse band in Lowes parking lot one night. At least at $2.6k it was Ford cheap.

I’m not suggesting a 3 speed TH400 with a lockout, but you can adapt a lot of different engine/transmissions combos.

What part or component is the failure point on your trans? That may help the rest of us, thanks for sharing.

This is just my opinion, but 150k miles on an automatic transmission isn’t horrible. This is a wear item, and depending on use will determine how long this will be in service.

If we took two identical trucks, and put 150k miles on both. One truck was all highway and the other was all in town driving there would be significant differences in wear items.

What I find absurd is a quote for 8k.

OK...here the same transmission is at @Roman. It is a reman from Toyota (fully acceptable). Have to factor in the shipping costs for competitiveness.

    https://parts.toyotaofcoolsprings.com/oem-parts/toyota-transmission-350100c08084

Edit: Mmmm...Just realized that listing is a 4.7L transmission (A340?). @Kerch71 I'm guessing you'll want the reman version of the AB60F...or something heavier.

    Sorry this happened.

I replaced my transmission with an 80k unit from LKQ with a 2 year warranty for just above 2k in February.

Maybe try giving these guys a call regarding a built transmission. They are the the goto in the Tacomaworld and have experience with Supras, specializing in imports.

    https://www.importperformancetrans.com/

For 8K, I'd imagine you can get a built unit from them shipped and have a local shop swap if you're not doing it yourself. GL man!

f the best ways to fry your transmission fluid.
I've been running IPT's Valve Body and Shift Kit now for several years. With Keith's 10" BA Exhaust, there's no mistaken what gear I'm in or whether the Torque Converter is locked/unlocked. Can't remember the last time I've been in "D" though. Choosing the best gear for load, speed and road conditions, will certainly solve "lugging" and "gear-hunting"....every time.

They can't find one anywhere. Apparently these trannys are not easy to come by, and they're expensive as hell. The couple that they found out of wrecks weren't worth putting in.

Appreciate the link. I need to have a serious talk with them on Monday. 8K is beyond absurd, plus I want to put a shift kit in it, which adds to the cost. Problem is, I was referred to these guys by a shop I trust, but I don't know these guys, and I'm not sure if they're trustworthy. I agree, though, that the mileage I got out of it isn't bad considering the mods.

I remember seeing this truck for sale on CL a few years back. Pics didn't look like it was driven easy and was used for towing. Have you changed the trans fluid?
