I had knee issues some years back, doc thought both my meniscus (meniscuses, meniscusssesssssss, menisci???) were torn. I was bummed thinking about surgery, until I realized that knowing what it was and how to solve it was progress.

Long story short, wasn't anything wrong with my meniscus in either knee. Knee cap just wanted to slip to the outside of the knee. Little physical therapy, posture correction (used to stand a little tow out) and massage therapy, and I don't get the pain anymore.

Not really! At Brandon’s age he could go for alternative treatments before full replacement; phys therapy, ligament or tendon surgery - all depending on the issue and can wait the full replacement t till he’s older. Or more worn out lol

Yeah, if it's just the meniscus then it can be cleaned up/repaired, and it'll last forever.

So what’s the alternative when it doesn’t “last” anymore? Another new knee? I mean if it alleviates their pain and one can stay active, do the therapy that’s so important after surgery then it’s doable even at a young age...

Kinda disheartening if you think about it! I would think the idea is to be as active as you were before, and to be told to slow down? Uggh, then I’d opt for alternatives for sure before a TKA or swap bodies!

Yeah, my mom was in her late 60s for her first knee, then when second knee was supposed to be done dad got sick and passed, she waited a couple years to do the other knee. She’s 89 now and moves well but uses a walker for stability from a stroke a few years back. She’s a tough lady!! Did her PT religiously!!

Thanks. I was glad for it too. It was caused by standing toe out a bit, and letting my feet lean out to the side while at a desk, or driving and such. What equates to the elastic band (was called the IT band IIRC) that goes along the outside of the thigh from the hip to the knee was just tightening up the slack and got overtight. Started pulling my knee cap off to the side. Patellar Tracking Disorder. My knees still make some awful grinding and crunching noises that I can hear and feel, but the MRI was clear and my knee(s) haven't buckled on me since correcting the posture and habits.

I have a few veteran friends... on of them said something about the VA that made me pretty sad. Didn't realize how much better we should be taking care of our Vets. He said "The VA: giving veterans a second chance to die for their country"

I enjoy the hell out of them, but I just don't get to the range enough to justify the expense of the hobby. I am actually thinking about trimming down my "arsenal" in the future.
